    The infernal itch

It's maddening isn't it??? I just had to force myself to ignore it. Of course now I appear to be having a histamine reaction on my legs which is driving me kookoo bananas.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

I had surgery last Tuesday the 14th and took the remainder of that week and all of this week off. I return Monday.

    It feels too easy.

Thanks for this, it helps a lot. Yes, it seems like we're similarly framed ("brick chicken house" type). I am 45 years old and active, work two jobs, one of which is outdoors. I just see everyone saying "stick to the script" and I'm trying but I'm honestly hungry if I eat just 350-400 cal a day (I am 11 days post-op). Not head hungry—stomach-shakingly hungry. I chose my goal weight because it represents about 15% body fat on my frame, and I'm curious to see whether I can get there. So... 94 pounds to go!

    2 week pre-surgery diet

My "full liquids" was much like Tony B - NJ's, plus I am allowed to have kefir, Greek yoghurt, and skyr as long as it's not fatty and not got much sugar in it.

    Dry patches on skin

Oh my God, I thought I was the only one. My left leg is itching like CRAZY. I haven't changed soaps or detergents. I find that putting lotion helps for a little while, and I have some anti-itch cream from the last time I decided to ignore what poison oak looks like.

    Constant hunger?

I have three weeks of post-op liquid diet and am almost two weeks through it. I'm allowed to have unflavored Greek yogurt, skyr, and sugar-free fat-free puddings on my "liquid" diet and I find those help a lot. Also, warm savory things help—phở broth, miso soup, chicken broth. And the Fairlife nutrition shakes that taste exactly like chocolate milk seem to assuage my hunger. It is better now than it was immediately post-op, for what it's worth.
  7. Get some whey protein isolate and dissolve it in whatever you like—chicken broth, water, diet juice that you like. Unfortunately since I live in the US I can't speak with authority as to what's available in Oz.

    Incision infected?

You need to call your surgeon. If you develop a fever above 38ºC/100.4ºF, especially. If you develop a fever above 39ºC/102.2ºF, you should go to urgent care.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Stop weighing yourself every day. So many things can alter your weight between 2-5 lbs. Maybe you're less dehydrated. Maybe you've got hormonal changes ("that time of the month"). Maybe you ate more salty stuff than usual. Weigh every week and make sure you're measuring yourself, too.

    6 month post Op update

That's amazing. You must feel like a new man. Congrats and thanks for sharing!

    So I did it!!!

The first day or two are bad, there's no getting around it. Hard to take in enough fluid or protein, hard to change positions, and all that mufferthunkin' gas. Make sure you're walking a few times a day. I promise, it gets better, and FAST.
  12. Hospital Ángeles is the best hospital in Tijuana... you were in good hands and I hope you're recovering well!

    It feels too easy.

Thanks everyone for not jumping all over me...the immediate-release version of my antidepressant seems to be spiking my anxiety. I haven't lost any weight in the last couple of days but I suspect it's "the stall" come a bit early. My surgeon says it happens when fluid balance is restored, and I've been really good about fluids (100 oz or so a day). I know that there's no way I'm "stopping" this early, not on 600-700 calories a day, so I'm just going to stay off the scale and move to weekly weigh-ins and measurements on Mondays.

    Trusting a fart

I trusted a fart (nine days post-VSG) this morning and it did not go well. TRUST NO FARTS.

    Return to work?

I had surgery on a Tuesday and took that week and the next week off. I could've gone back but I get tired easily even though I have energy. I'm glad I took two weeks. Three weeks would have been de trop.

Just had my sleeve surgery today,

I did too, went under anesthesia at 10.30 and was home in my house at 18.30.
  17. I have the same worry. This seems... too easy. I feel like I shouldn't be able to drink as much as I am, and I worry that I'm consuming too much.
  18. It's hard at first but I'm so happy I did it. I had mine the 14th. I was doing okay (after the initial awful first day) until this morning when I was overcome by massive dizziness. I was out for a run and had to stop and walk back to my house. I called the surgeon and he troubleshot with me, and it turns out my high blood pressure just... resolved itself... but I was still taking the meds, so I had low BP. He told me to eat something salty so I made soupy cream of rice in pho broth, and felt a little better.

    So stopped up I can't eat . . .

Trust me, it's not as bad as you think.

What are some exercises I can do in bed

As others have said, it's best to ask for help from a professional. Take heart—it IS possible, and you'll gain strength which will help with the weight, even if all you're doing is muscle stretches. Everyone has to start somewhere, and you made up your mind to do it—that's the hardest part.
  21. That's normal and it's your system telling you to slow down the drinking.

    Gastric bypass take 2, update!!

Yikes! I'm glad you got the care you needed. Here's hoping the entire rest of your experience is smooth sailing and steady downward trend of the number on the scale.

    stuck at 50 pounds down

You’re right about insoluble fiber. I can tell you for sure that nutrition labels are a combination of soluble and insoluble. Very rarely they’ll be called out separately but it’s really unusual. My NUT says if you can’t tell if it’s insoluble fiber you have to assume it’s not and count it.

    8 days till surgery

Don’t worry about the protein. The first day or two it can be hard to sip but you’re not going to damage yourself if you don’t get your protein in for a day. My surgeon said sip half an ounce every five minutes. If I sip a Fairlife CorePower that’s 26g in 14 oz, and an Isopure is 32g in 16 oz. That’s five hours of sipping to get 58g of protein. Just treat it like your full time job until your system settles enough for you to take a mouthful at a time. Try to sip protein containing liquids until you get your protein in. And remember that any “liquid” counts as fluid… sugar free jello counts, sugar free pudding counts.

    My story

Sounds like the three-week stall got caught in traffic. Just stay with your program! It WILL come off. And if you have doubts, call your NUT!
