Day 2 post VSG & gas is killing me!

It took me at least a week to get rid of the gas pains, that hurt mostly in my left shoulder. I used a heating pad pretty much all day long until it was gone. They say ‘walk walk walk’, and I wouldn’t discourage it, but I feel like it didn’t help me much. It hurt when I would take a deep breath also. I did sleep in the recliner for the first 4 days at home. Until it was ‘comfortable enough’ to lay in the bed. Needless to say, I don’t feel like I slept much AT ALL those days in the recliner. I’m 18 days post op now, and all I have is incision pain when I move wrong. I have been walking an hour a day this past week. I hope you feel better soon, but just know it WILL get better!! 😊😊😊

Well, the scale is still stuck. 18 days post op. Still just 9 pounds gone since surgery. I had been walking on a local track, but it got too hot here. So I got a gym membership and walked my hour on the treadmill. I have yet to ‘feel full’. I have yet to ‘feel ill’ with any different foods. I’m scared maybe the surgery didn’t work! Surely I’m not the only one who has thought this! I know it sounds crazy. Doc kept me off work for another 2 weeks to make sure I was healed well. So maybe I’m just ‘bored and stuck in my head’? I don’t want to become a ‘gym rat’, especially with me still having incision pain. I am scared of overdoing it.

I'm sorry you had a bad day! If it makes you feel any better, I took a Xan myself today, lol. It just seemed overwhelming! Not anything to do with the surgery or eating, just LIFE. It WILL get better! I think it happens to all of us. We get in a "routine" to adapt to "eating like this" for so many days, then we have to change it to another way of eating, vitamin taking, water, protein intake, bowel monitoring. I am 17 days out and still have some days that I feel FINE, then like today, "enough pain for Tylenol". But the GOOD news is, the dr told me yesterday that this pain WILL go away THIS week

You go girl with all that activity!! I had my 2 week check up yesterday. All is well she said. I too was taken OFF the blood pressure med! She said all my levels/tests they took in surgery were all good! No liver problems. My weight was down 9 pounds since surgery ( 15 days). But I’m ok with being a ‘slow loser’, as long as it’s headed DOWN! I too need to hide the scale! My calories are around the same, 450-500, I have to get them up a little. She kept me off work for 2 more weeks, to make sure I was healed 8 still have ‘pulling/burning’ sensation when I move/reach/stretch wrong. She did say all THAT would be gone within the next week. I was very relieved to hear that. That’s what I was worried about going back to work with. Shakes are my main protein, thankfully I didn’t lose my taste for them. As far as food goes, I measure it out, and can get in 1/2 comfortably. I haven’t ate anything that made my new tummy angry yet, I’m sure I will soon with introducing new foods though. I want some CHICKEN, canned, grilled ( not fried) , something to CHEW! Lol

I know how you feel I felt the same way about the ‘vitamins, rules, how am I going to get this water in, how am I going to get these calories in’, it all feels like too much. That was about a week ago, I guess it just takes time for us to ‘adjust’ to this new living. But YES, our futures are BRIGHT! I walked 3 miles this am, without stopping, in 61 minutes. I felt so accomplished. I am a ‘big Walker’ normally, but since surgery, I haven’t been. I felt NORMAL again!

I’m so sorry that you got treated that way. I can’t say as mine ( follow up) will be much better. We will see tomorrow. We have a ‘portal’ to send/receive messages to the bariatric team, but this far the ‘answers’ I get are ‘short and not REALLY answering anything I’m asking’. It seems that since the surgery they are kinda ‘done’ w me, and that may be just my emotions talking, or I’m sure that’s what they will try and say, lol. I have only lost 7 pounds, and I know I shouldn’t be ‘on the scale’, but of course I am! I see all these other ppl loosing soo much more post op. My pain is ok, I haven’t taken anything since 3 days out, but I am having a ‘stitch pain’( from what I’ve read) when I move a certain way, raise my arm. It’s on the right side. I did have a minor hernia repair while he was in tho, I had no idea I had it. As far as bandages, I was glued shut, so I never had any bandages so I’m not sure about that. I started my vitamins back today. I haven’t had any trouble getting my water in daily. The first few days it was a struggle. I have not been nauseous or thrown up at all , knock on wood,. I have followed the diet ( mostly, I had some mashed potatoes) . I have NOT ate ANYTHING sweet, I’m scared of dumping syndrome. I drink the protein shakes for most of my protein, and just started yesterday on stage 3, adding ‘mushy meat’ to my diet and smashed veggies. The ricotta bake tasted SOOOO heavenly!! How are you feeling????

    Abdominal pain 2 weeks out?

Thank you so much for your insight SummerTimeGirl! I needed that reassurance, I walked 1.8 miles after I wrote that, it was "painful but not unbearable", so I kept going. I tried to think "work through it, MAKE it go away", I wasn't "power walking", but just trying to "strengthen those muscles" ( I guess, lol). Needless to say, I was pretty ready to SIT down. It was the longest walk since surgery, it definitely felt good to be back on the track, it made my heart SMILE!!

Yes! That’s me! They DIDN’T hurt, I’m 13 days post op sleeve, until the past few days! I felt like I was writing your post! ( except I’m am NOT walking as much as u, lol)

Same! I’ve been at home, doing nothing, feeling LAZY. Aside from the grocery store pick ups and walking to the mailbox I have done nothing! We can’t ‘pick up’ over 5-10 pounds, so I feel helpless! I am NOT wanting to go back to work, I’m 13 days out and still having ‘stitch pain’ ( I GUESS that’s what it is) . But I am looking forward to the dr on Tuesday, to MAYBE get some answers on this pain thing. I am afraid to go for a ‘good walk’, I fear being ‘too far’ from the house. The hubby is ‘gaming’ .

    Abdominal pain 2 weeks out?

Hey all! I am 13 days out from the sleeve. For the past few days I’ve been having pain /burning when I move a certain way, stand up, stretch, bend over ext, it’s not constant at all. After I sit down, get situated, it doesn’t hurt. It has nothing to do with eating. I guess what bothers me about it is that I have had MANY days that were pain free since the surgery, then this. It totally feels ‘muscular’, and it’s definitely under my ‘holes’, I just wondered if it’s the ‘normal’ healing process. I have my 2 week check up on Tuesday. Any experience or knowledge would be helpful! Thanks!
  13. You are not alone, there are soooo many of us out here, looking for advice, support or just someone to listen, that understands what we have gone/are going thru. My bariatric team seems to ‘be done’ with me since the surgery. I’ll ask a question, and they will return the message with ‘you may need to see your PCP’. I feel abandoned by them. My insurance company even placed a call to them to return my call, and they still have not. I’m 10 days out, still bloated, minor pain, but I’m probably ok. 😊
  14. I feel this on a personal level. I had lost 44 pounds since January 2021, surgery on 6/21/21, I’m only 10 days out, and HAVE been on the scale ( I know I shouldn’t), and have only lost 5 pounds. I felt like I probably would be a ‘slow loser’, since I had already cut my calorie intake for so long b4 surgery, but as long as I’m still losing, I’ll be happy with that 😊

I am ok, the incisions "pull" when I move wrong. I still have these "compression hose" on (2 weeks) and a belly band, I look like a clown! I FEEL ok, I wish I could have a chicken breast! My belly is flabby (swollen or fluids), it looks RIDICULOUS, but I MUST trust the process! How about you, how are you feeling?

    Swollen belly!

I did not have drainage tubes post surgery. I'm glad for you all, I can't get an answer from my bariatric team. If this is normal, I can deal with it. It's just this "not knowing", if I look it up online, it directs me to "a leak". Which is SCARY. Does anyone know if there is something I can do to minimalize this? Extra fluids makes MUCH more sense than gas, I have NOT passed ALOT of gas since the surgery, just a "normal" amount.
  19. Has anyone else belly got really swollen, as in flabby swollen? I’m 6 days post-op, it’s not painful, it’s just FLABBY! It’s NOT MY belly, I am concerned something may be wrong, any insight, expirience would help

    Swollen belly!

I had the gastric sleeve, BTW. I have messaged my surgeon, they asked if I had fever or abdominal pain, I haven’t had either. I’m just in shock and awe at it
