Coughing, Reflux & Regurgitation out of the blue
suzpat replied to laureen123's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My coughing ended up being Asthma. I have coughed for months and nobody figured it out. Finally went to a pulmonary specialist. I have 2 inhalers I use and they help a lot. I don't cough much at all anymore and it has helped me with feeling breathless while laying down. Hope this helps you out. -
Has anyone had problems with excess gas with the protein drinks? Any solutions on this?:cool2:
-
I have not had the surgery yet but I do drink the protein drinks and they do cause gas for some people that are sensitive to dairy . I tried something today with my protein drink and it worked like a charm. Thought I would share it with ya all. I chewed two of the lactaid tablets right before drinking the protein drink. NO GAS!!! Yeah!!!

I know exactly what you are talking about. LOL I keep thinking there has to be a doctor that will talk me out of this but so far everyone has positive things to say about it. Ofcourse they have not had the surgery so... Like you. one hour it is yes, next hour is no. Let us know how you do if you go thru with it. No date for me yet, just finished all my tests.
-
Amen! I could not have said that any better. Sounds like we all need each and each others prayers.

I understand exactly what you are feeling. I too am having second thoughts. This site is what we need. So many wonderful people who havegone before us to give us information and support. Yesterday I was seriously considering not doing the lap band. I got on this site and had a lot of response to give me encouragement. I think we just don't understand it all. This morning I am 75% yes and 25% no. Wish time would go faster. Good luck to you. Keep us posted.

I am having the same problem right now. They have not given me a date yet, but the more I learn the more second thoughts I have. Like you, I think if the band is so restrictive and one is forced to eat less. Why couldn't a person do this on their own. I can't imagine how a person can get enough nutrition to be healthy when only eating half a cup of food. So much we don't understand until we actually do it. Just seems easier to go on a diet with diet pills than to have the surgery. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Sorry I am not very positive right now.

I have been having lots of leg cramps and muscle spasms in my back. I went to GNC , they told me to take protein with potassium. I am 5 days out from doing this and most of the cramps are gone. Body builders know what they are talking about. Good luck! Let us know.

Wecome to this great site! Now lets hope you don't talk yourself out of it by the time they give you a date. LOL Its so good to talk to people in their 60's that are having the surgery. I am 60 as of last April. Thats a hard number to say.
-
Good luck on the surgery. Let us all know how it goes for you. I am waiting for a date on my lap band and have so many doubts right now. Just afraid of the unknown. The surgery doesn't bother me, its the knew lifestyle that I have a problem with.

Hi sharon. I am need to this site. Like yourself i am a grandma of 9 with only one being a girl. I love my grandkids! Two of mine live across the street. Revolving door at our house! Love it! I am 60 years old and at 242 lbs. July 29th I go for my consultation and get everything rolling. Nice to see other people my age are doing this. I want to be healthy and enjoy every day to its fullest. Nice to meet you! Susan P

Hi Susana. Good luck on the new band. I am new also and go for my consultation on July 29th to start things rolling. I know how you feel. I am 60 and the first time in my life feel the oldest of something. Depressing isn't it? My body looks older than 60 but my mind is 25!

Thanks again! I went to a siminar last night and found the truth about the hair loss. Doctor said if you don't eat the protein advised by the doctor then that happens. If you do as told, no problem with that. Does anyone worry about care after age 65 up? From what I understand the doctors don't like to treat or operate on persons over age 65. Anyone have news about this subjuect?

Doddie what happens when you get a cold and have a lot of coughing? You are so helpful! I am at 238 lbs. right now. I think probable 90-100 lbs. for me. Oh by the way, you live in country I hope to visit someday! Susan
-
Thank you Doddie. I am in the search stage. Afraid of what I don't know. You seem to be doing very very well. I know you are so proud of what you have achieved. sleeping with a c-pap is not fun and thats just the beginning of health problems. I have to do something drastic or it will never happen. I wonder what food could possible fit thru the narrow opening to the stoma. If the hole is no bigger than a pencil. Wow that is small. Thanks so much for your support and information. Susan

I think I may have asthma. I have problem with coughing and wonder what this does to the band? What happens when a person gets a cold and persistent cough in the cold season? Susan -
Hi Rachel, I am new also. I am not a focused person on dieting. I keep thinking if a person can go on a liquid diet for nearly 4 weeks than why can't I do this without the band? Seems this is much stricter than any diet. I too am afraid I will fail and then go thru all of the surgery for nothing. You sure have your hands full girl! Ofcourse weight loss will be very good for your health problem and taking care of your parents. Good luck.

Thank you so much. You are so helpful. The 2 weeks before and after the lap band are what I worry about. Does everyone have a problem with vomiting? Have you or anyone on this site have ideas or suggestions on the letter you must have from a physician? What if they don't believe in the band?
-
Hello everyone. Very new so please excuse anything stupid I may do. Lots of questions since I am in the research stage and planning. Have any of you had a problem with hair loss? I reas on a web site that was a problem. I would hate to loose all this weight to end up skinny and bald! LOL. Not a pretty site for a female.

Hello, I am researching everything about lap Band. I have located a doctor and have attended 1 siminar. My question is this. The doctor said the opening to the pouch would only be the size of an M& M. How can anyone swallow anything with an opening that small? What kind of foods can be eaten with this size of an opening. Also I just turned 60. Are there many out there my age that has gone thru this surgery? I just found out that I have sleep apnea and need a c-pap. Does the Lap Band get rid of sleep apnea? Can't imagine living my life with this c-pap!
-
Did you have a hard time the weeks before and after surgery? How did you get enough nutrition during that time? It all frightens me some. The surgery doesn't bother me as much as the new lifestyle. Doesn't make any sense does it?
-
I was referring to my c-pap that I nick named. LOL
-
Hello, I am new to all this and need all the information I can read. I am planning on having the lap band . So far I have gone to one of the siminar's and have found a doctor. I recently found out I have sleep apnea and have a c-pap I call "she devil". I hope the lap band will help me to get rid of this machine. Does the lap band interfere with any type of testing a person would have to have in the future? Like the colon test and the endoscopy? Do any of you have any type of pulmonary problems that cause a problem for the band?
-
You are very helpful! Thanks to all of you. I have so many questions. I sometimes wonder if I am too old. Sounds like you answered that for me. You are doing so well!

Your start weight is what mine is now. How long has it taken you to loose your weight stated?
