    July 2021 Surgery People!

Soonlee_W, You can do this! You are so close to your surgery, this post op diet is tough, but temporary. Glad you are ready to follow the doctor's plan to prepare for your new VSG lifestyle. I'm here doing pre op with you! I don’t love it. I'm tired of my chocolate shakes & my beef broth was nasty, but I know it will be worth it! Today, I bought some vanilla & strawberry shakes to mix it up a little, and I will stick to chicken & veggie broth. Are you allowed the s.f. popsicles & s.f. jello? I added some protein (genepro) to the raspberry jello last night, it was something to look forward to at the end of the day. (And I am not a jello fan) Congratulations on the 4 pounds, and it is great to see you get back on track!

Every doctor and patient may have different requirements/recommendations/instructions. It may be best if you reach out to your team to get some more clarity on your surgeon's recommendations based on your medical history. They may give you more details when they give you preop instuctions. They may also give you the vitamin list after surgery. My instructions were to drink 10 oz bottle of magnesium citrate the day before surgery. (It takes 4 hours to work, and they suggested taking it around 10 am.) It is available at the pharmacy. For vitamins, my instructions were to take: -complete Multivitamin -Calcium citrate 1200 mg day divided in 2 doses -vitamin d 2000 IU -B12 1000 mcg -iron as directed by doctor, if needed.. I was also told to take prilosec otc (or similar) for 2 weeks pre op, up to day before surgery, and then resume 1 or 2 days after surgery. Hoping you get some more information from your team. Wishing you luck.

I started Habit tracking and Journaling, but I still need to get more consistent with both. I think they are both helpful activities. I also like watching videos on YouTube of people who have gone through this. I need to get better at food Journaling, too. I bought cups for the protein shakes, cups and a thermos for hot/warm liquids for the broth & soups (one has a strainer), 4oz. containers, a motivational water cup with time markers, protein shake powder & some ready to drink shakes, sf jello, sf ice pops, broth, protein fruit drink mixes, sf drink mixes (like crystal light), sf hard candy (I heard it may help right after surgery with dry mouth), Multivitamin, calcium, prilosec, & collagen w/ hyaluronic acid. After surgery I plan on ordering a food scale and mini travel food processor. I am thinking about getting little 2 oz containers for jello, pudding, yogurt, & the very small portions in beginning. I have an air fryer that I don't use much, but maybe will start using it more. I heard it is great for veggies.

Hi NorthernMaine, I hope you get more information to help figure out which surgery is best for you. If you don't find anyone in this forum (July surgery/sleeve) that has experience with this, you may want to post this in the Bypass Forum or General Forum also, that way more people might view it & be able to share if they had a similar experience. 😊 Good luck with you surgery!

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Welcome & congratulations on your surgery! I am starting my pre op diet today! I'm sure it will be ok if you get back on track. We got this! It will be tough, but worth it to get a good start before our surgery. Things moved quickly for me as well as mine wasn't covered. I think I started thinking that I wanted to have the surgery in April, had my first appointment in June, and have been getting prepped (appointments, buying what I need, etc.) since. This forum has been so helpful for me, it is so inspiring to hear others experiences, and get great advice & support. Good luck & keep us posted!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! It does seem a little overwhelming to get prepared with all the vitamins & shakes & supplies. I am making a schedule for all the vitamins and meds today since some need time between them. Hopefully, it will all become routine. Not eating & drinking together may be one of the hardest things for me to get used to after surgery, giving up soda will be difficult, too, but I think that is easier than not drinking with a meal. I especially love my coffee with my breakfast! But I know it will be worth it to lose the weight!

Jenfs5, I'm so happy to hear that your surgery went well and that it is getting easier to drink your fluids. It sounds like your hubby is taking good care of you as you recover!💗 Hoping it continues to get easier to get the protein & liquids in.

Wow, that's great that you lost 10 pounds on pre op!🥳 I would think that with what you lost, you should be fine. (There are probably so many pre ops that eat something that wasn't recommended, or a little more than recommended.) I guess we just need to try our best.🤷‍♀️ 2 days away-getting do close, good luck with everything!🍀😊

Hi Ashley, I don't know if your doctor will cancel if you ate today.🤔 I think some doctors have clear liquids for 2 days before & others just 1 day before. I would call the doctors office Monday to find out if it is ok. You still have Sunday & Monday for clear liquids. Good luck!😊

Maribelle, I hope everything goes smoothly with your surgery. Wishing you a successful & effective procedure. Glad that you are feeling better on the pre op. 😊
  12. Hi👋 I just saw a video on derma rolling loose skin on YouTube. The woman in the video seems to get great results. I was wondering if anyone has tried it for loose skin, and if so, was it effective in reducing the appearance of loose skin? I think it is also supposed to help with scars and stretch marks as well. I'm still pre-op, so I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking it may be worth a shot! I know it is popular to use it on the face, and haven't tried that yet, either. I have read that you need to be careful with making sure to clean the roller and area of skin properly.

    New to the group

Congratulations! Wishing you well with your upcoming surgery & weight loss. I am still pre-op, so there are others that can be more helpful, but reading the posts from people who have gone through surgery has been helpful for me. This site is a great resource, people on here are very helpful with sharing their experiences. I also like watching YouTube videos from people who have had the surgery (search VSG). There are many of them with all different topics (what they ate, what they brought to hospital, etc.) Here are a few different examples of YouTube posts. Each of them has multiple videos on various topics. There are lots of other personalities out there that you may find helpful.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Thanks for the tip, I just set drinking & eating timers up on my phone through the baritastic app. I did about 15 minute increments for drinking and made sure to give 1/2 hour break before and after meals. Hopefully, it helps me stay on top of it. I hope it becomes more routine and natural after a while.

    July 2021 Surgery People!

I think I am getting there. I have some shakes, sugar free drinks, sugar free jello & ice pops, broth, etc. I ordered my vitamins. I think I just need to pack my bag & pick up meds for post surgery. I want to get some meals prepped & frozen for my family while I recover, that way I don't need to worry about cooking much those first 2 weeks. I went to the pre op class yesterday. So much to remember (when to stop taking vitamins/meds, when to start others, etc.)! I have an appointment with my endocrinologist the week before. Then sometime that week before, I need to go to the hospital for presurgery tests/bloodwork. Getting closer & real! 😬🤯 🙌 😁 What about you, do you have everything ready? (& anyone else getting ready before surgery) To those that have gone all ready, what was helpful to bring from while in the hospital? Is there anything that is typically suggested that you didn't need? What has been helpful those first few days? (Tools, foods, products, activities, etc.)

Congrats to Mother of 2, Losewate & Sue2 on your surgeries! Your updates and information are helpful to those of us that are scheduled later this month. I am having a hard time getting my water in pre op, I can only imagine how difficult it will be those first few days after surgery. 🤦‍♀️
