Should I do a pre-op diet anyway?
Candace76 replied to vikingbeast's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon did not require one either, and I decided to get a little head start by doing one on my own. I had protein shakes for breakfast & lunch, and tried to eat lower carb/lower fat dinners. I also drank broth, if needed & had sugar free jello or ice pops when I wanted something sweet. There were 2 days out of the 2 weeks that I was a little less careful with watching how much fat or carbs were in my dinners. I lost about 10.8 pounds in the 2 weeks before, including 1 day of liquids only (surgery requirement). I felt like it did prepare me for what was to come, especially for the day of liquids only & introduced me to some of the protein shakes & broths that I would need after surgery. Good luck with your upcoming surgery! -

Keke82, I am attaching copies of my plan for 4 weeks post op, you can also Google other post op plans, just to compare them to what you were given. Other plans that i looked at were very similar. Some plans did include estimated calories for each phase. I have not really calculated my calories, but I know my shakes are about 300 (for 2), and each meal (3) maybe 60-120 calories. I don't usually eat my whole meal yet, I am just over 3 weeks post op. I was told not to snack outside of meals, and count my 2 protein shakes as my 2 "snacks". So I am allowed 3 meals & 2 shakes, until I go to the modified regular diet. Maybe you can talk to your team and see if they can go over their recommended plan with you again, and let them know you are finding it difficult to stay under 300 calories & get your protein in. Good luck & keep us posted!😊

Many of us are recommended to have 2 protein shakes a day until we can eat enough protein with food, the protein shake supplements alone are about 300 calories. You wouldn't have any calories left to get other foods in. I agree, it does not sound like a 300 maximum is enough even in earlier phases.

July 2021 Surgery People!
Candace76 replied to Sammys_VSG_Evolution's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You both might be at the famous 3 week stall. Sometimes it may occur after the 3rd week. There are many threads and posts about this on here. From what I have read from other posters, it is suggested to basically keep following your plan, making sure water & protein goals are met, stay off the scale for a few days, & wait it out. You should start losing again soon. It may take a week or 2. There are more detailed responses about this, you can search "stalls" or "3 week stall" in the community to see them. Good luck, I hope you both get back to losing soon! I will probably be joining you both in the famous stall any day now. -

Hi Everyone 👋 I am currently on the soft food stage & feel like it would be great to hear what everyone else's favorite go-to's are. It would be so helpful to get new ideas & see what has worked for others. Share foods for whatever stage you are currently at, or various stages. Share any meal of the day or snack, or a number of your faves! Looking forward to hear what everyone is eating!😊🍳🥘🍲

Candace76 replied to Candace76's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think many of these will be my go-to's later on. Can't wait to add a little whole wheat or low carb bread or Cracker options when my new stomach is ready to handle it! -

Fish for pureed/mushy stages?
Candace76 replied to lunadreams's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have been usually having the avocado/ guacamole with the tuna (about 1 oz of avocado with 3 oz tuna). Also, the salsa & hummus aren't bad with the canned chicken breast. -

Lol. I guess I would put wax paper or parchment down on the scale and then weigh it that way. Though, it will be a long time before I get to test the method. 🤣 -

What do I need to do/buy to prepare?
Candace76 replied to *Paula*'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi *Paula*! Good luck with Wegovy, I hope it is successful in helping you lose weight. Some thing that I purchased before or since surgery that I found helpful are: 1. Food Scale 2. Mini travel food processor 3. 2 oz disposable containers 4. 4 oz containers 5. Food thermos for soups, purées, soft foods or bringing food 6. Warm travel cup (with strainer) for broths 7. Blender cups for protein shakes 8. Food: based on pre op & post op diets (i.e. protein shakes, sugar-free jello, sugar-free ice pops, broths) 9. Vitamins: based on what I was told I would need post surgery (i.e. Calcium citrate, Multivitamin) 10. Measuring tape 11. Scale 12. Journal /logging/tracking supplies Good luck to you! -
Cheapest calcium citrate that works
Candace76 replied to ShoppGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi ShoppGirl! I found these on Amazon because I wanted to find cheap calcium citrate. The chews are so expensive, and I'm not crazy about the ones from the brand I tried. Maybe others are better. I am only a few week out from sleeve surgery, so I haven't had bloodwork to see if they work for me. The other thing is you will likely need 2 twice a day (based on my recommended dose). They are on the big side. You do get a large amount for about $15. http://21st Century Vitamins Calcium Citrate Plus D3 Maximum Tablets, 400 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F4BV5DQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_CMY2VCAYYJM5VKN3AFF6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
