Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Dr. Kirshenbaum
hikerchik replied to Lufferly's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am probably staying at either the Hilton Garden inn on maridian blvd. or the 4 points Sheratin. They looked like the nicest hotels that werent all that high, except the Hilton Garden supposedly offers a discount for patients of Dr, k. but when we called they knew nothing about it. So its still up in the air. Hey maybe I will see you there loving life! -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Dr. Kirshenbaum
hikerchik replied to Lufferly's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi Im from NJ, I finally gave up fighting my insurance company and am flying out to Colorado to get banded by Dr. Kirschenbaum on 12/17/08. I have read good things about him. The only bad thing I read about him was that he wouldnt accept some type of insurance, and that there was 1 complication where the lapband was defective. I would have had to pay $20,0000 here in NJ. Dr. K. is just under $10,000. And he is in the U.S. of A! I think the trip out to Colorado will be quite a savings in my pocket. -

Low cost surgery? Where in the US?
hikerchik replied to hikerchik's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Thanks for the info. I will look for that thread. As of now. Cigna will not pay, and I will have to pay 20 grand! At least that is 7 grand cheaper than another well known Doctor nearby... -
Impressed with CIGNA's coverage!
hikerchik replied to slimteacherin08's topic in Insurance & Financing
I wish I didnt have to say this but,.....Cigna Sucks! They refuse to pay, now I have to complain to the labor union who is going to have a board meeting in November. Then and only then , if they decide that Cigna is denying me incorrectly then they could , I guess "coax" Cigna to pay. I started this process in February 2008. and after 6 months under a doctors care for my weight loss, and dealing with this uncomfortable weight problem, After the doctor sent a letter on recomendation, I meet the 40 BMI criteria, they still said NO! Now I have to apply for a home equity loan to pay for this procedure that so many other people have no problem getting covered. CiGNA!!!!!!! What a Sham! They are one of those companies who does anything that they could to NOT pay for things!!!! I highly DO NOT recommend CIGNA!! Im still not giving up but , my hopes are dashed with Cigna. THEY SUCK! -
Hi, I am new to this forum. I will be done with my 6 months worth of doctor visits for weight loss at the end of July (Insurance requires this before they will think about aproving the surgery) Any way , I like to enjoy a few beers here and there and I have heard that I should go cold turkey and not drink at all for 2 months before the surgery. Is this true? Do some surgeons require this while others do not? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pre-op beer drinking
hikerchik replied to hikerchik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Jack, Im very glad that you havnt drank in such a long time. That is really great. Im sure you are really loving life now. My question is: Did your surgeon allow you to drink your beer right up to the day before surgery? Thanks, Sue:shades_smile:
