Lap Band Fills / Adjustment Info

Ann, You may want to call your Doc today and tell him of your suspision of a leak. They are not uncommon. All it would take would be for him to put on a new port if it is indeed a leak.

Lap Band Fills / Adjustment Info

Hi Grandmax, A few things...1) if your BMI was below 40 to start with you are not going to lose the weight as fast as those with a BMI of 48. 2) Certain solid foods DO slip easily though the band like white bread with butter or jelly, some slider pizzas do too, as does oatmeal and other cereals. Make sure the foods you do eat are not going to slip easily though the band. Try a Lean Cusine meatloaf and mash pototoes. If you can eat the entire meal without feeling the restriction your band is not tight enough. A handfull of Alamond nuts can give you restriction too. Try sliced beef or turkey rolled up in your favorite cheeze, no mayo as mayo makes everything slide though the band. 3) Always, Always have all your fluid intake just before you eat or at least 2 hours after you eat. Remember D comes before E (drinking before eating), never the other way around. I hope this helps Joyce
  3. Hi IndioGirl55,

My name is Joyce, I live in Michigan. I was banded last June and I am just now getting down to the real business of losing weight. I could use some of your tough band love.

I did well at first, but as the economy slipped, I did too. The world may be in a recession, but I slipped into a depression.

This past week I went back to my doctor, got a band adjustment and started working out again everyday for 1 hour. I see the doctor again in another week.

My BMI was not large to start with, 39, so it is not like I can choose to eat less and lose weight; I have to excerise period. I currently weigh 200, and am 5' 2".

Since my band adjustment a week ago I have been paying closer attention to those foods that don't "slip" though the band as easily. The best I have found so far is a sproutted grain bread, soak it in 1 egg and make a french toast out of it. Normally I cannot eat the entire slice. I would really appreciate some food suggestions from you.

    Had 3 fills but struggling!

Well after three months of being banded I have finally learned to eat with this thing and I'll share my thoughts because I have learned the hard way. Do not eat dry foods........no matter how much you chew it will get stuck. Make sure you don't get too hungry between meals because you will not only eat too fast but take too big of bites. A good trick for some "fast food" is baby food. I keep a few jars of Gerber's chicken, or turkey in my purse all the time and I'm good for 4-5 hours. When I said I learned the hard way believe me I did. I would eat, something would get stuck and I would have to struggle to get it all up. Also, another trick if something gets stuck is to take a glass of very hot Water, take a sip and what is stuck comes out much easier. The hot water relaxes the food tube.

    the biggest loser show

jason, not only would you need a trainer to get the results you see in the show, but you would also need not to work or have anything else to do except exercise. They work out 3-4 times per day, plus keeping physically busy the rest of the time.
  6. Hi, My name is Joyce. I got the band June 25, about a month after you. Lost about 10 pounds so far. I love to walk outside in the fresh air so the Summit Mall is not appealing to me, perhaps when it is colder it will. I live in Twin Lakes Sub. It is south of M59 and just east of Walmart/HomeDepot between Fisk Rd. and Pontiac Lake Rd. My sub offers a wonderful 2.10 mile walk that I do daily. It takes about 45 minutes to walk all away around the lake, all paved. If you would like to join me give me a call. 248-698-9567. I am a stay at home mom with my youngest who just started the 10th grade last week. looking forward to hearing from you Joyce Taylor
  7. kbattal,

I was intrigued that you did your own fills. I'm a med professional, I saw what the nurse did and thought,"I'm paying $200 for this?" So I got online and looked up huber needles and prefilled salaine syringes and did it myself. NO Problem. What has been your experience?

    Severe shoulder pain

I have the same left shoulder pain, hurts more when I breath in. Also I can feel my port easily and when I press on it the shoulder twinges with pain. No doubt it is band related. I am only 4 weeks post op, I am hoping it will go away, but I am going to give my doc a ear full because OTC pain meds don't do anything for it.
  10. Hello all, I was wondering if any of you are/were nighttime eaters like me. I was banded June 25, just about 2 weeks ago and I have for some reason, thank God, stopped eating at night and the weight is just falling off. I have spent many years trying not to eat at night and nothing worked until I got this band. Anyone else have a similar experience? Dietfree

  12. I don't know how old you are, but if you are overweight you need to take precautions with your heart. I would be concerned if the shoulder pain went away but then came back especially if you are 4 weeks post op already. For women, especially, pain in the neck, shoulder, and behind the eye are all warning signs of a heart attack or blockage. I don't mean to alarm you, but take the precaution of getting check out with an EKG at the very least. Best to you. Dietfree
  13. Hello everyone, I was banded on June 25, just little over a week ago. I chose the name Dietfree because I have high hopes of never being on a diet again. In fact I threw away all my diet books and it felt great! I was checking out your FAQ on Post Op stuff and all the questions I had were completely answered, especially about the gas that travels up to the shoulder blade....ouch! I am 5 feet, 2 inches, and was at 212 on surgery day but I have been losing a pound a day. I have absolutely no hunger, nada, nothing. In fact when I do eat I can only tolerate a few bits and I a so uncomfortable I can't stand it. I was told that the band would be put on empty and my first fill is 5 weeks away. I don't think I need a fill. Anyone else experience this???
