Hello Lady Di, I am from Texas also. Marshall. I also was self pay $17,500. I decided to do it locally so I wouldn't have to worry about my fills and any complications. Which I guess is a good thing, since I'm having port problems already. Good Luck in your lapband journey.

Welcome Kate! I hope you find all the info you need here at LBT.
-
Are you able to eat or drink anything and keep it down? If so, that a good sign that it probably isn't slippage. Can you remember if you have bumped the port area at all? I've heard that can cause some pain... like when you bump leg and get a bruise. Hopefully somebody that has had their band longer can give you some more feedback. I hope you feel better soon.

Okay, I take it from no response......... that the ports usually don't move around. So I guess I have a small problem, but I am hoping it's really nothing.

WTG!!!! Definately time for new jeans!!!

I didn't have to do all liquid, but had to do high protein low carb. They want us to do some form of diet(be it high protein or "liquid torture") to help reduce the size of the liver, so that they have more room to place the band.

That's wonderful news.:clap2: Let us know when your date is set.

Don't give up fight with the insurance company. I was unable to ge my insurance to pay, even with a BMI of 49.7 and HBP and depression. Aetna claimed there wasn't enough wrong with me. So in the long run of it, my hubby decided we could self pay. We took a home equity loan. I don't regret it and I am glad I was able to at least do it this way instead of giving up totally. But fight fight fight and don't give up!

Jess, I will be thinking of you tomorrow.:gluck: I hope all goes well for you and you don't have much pain. In a few weeks you will be looking great just like Kelly. Can't wait to see your pictures! Take care of yourself and keep us posted.

On week 2 of post-op diet. I have had the banana nut weight smart instant oatmeal the last 2 mornings. (i did however add a little fat-free half and half to it to make it a little runnier) It went down fine and was yummy!

Penni, Sounds like y'all have had alot of fun. You've got 2 cute boys there! Everytime somebody my age talks about their grandkids....I think OMG no way do they have grandkids(LOL). Then I have to remember that yes it is possible and that I just got a late start having kids. I certainly won't be the "fun" granny riding rides with my grandkids (since my girls are only 8 and 4 now), but I hope to loose enough weight to become a "fun" mom! Hope you enjoy your "chill" time this weekend!

Kelly, Thanks for the info!!! Which flavors do you like the best?

Dawn, I know where you are coming from. I too have been on every diet and can't seem to loose. I also have a big apron(which got bigger after 2 kids), so I totally understand the sex drive(lack of) deal. I am only into my second week with the band, but lost 8 lbs the first week. I went out to eat with my family tonight and a small bowl of Soup actually filled me up. I can't believe what I would have eaten before. I can't help you with the Mexico bit, but there are plenty of bandsters here that did get their band in Mexico and they can give you alot of good info. I too was self-pay and I know I will not regret spending the $$. This was a start to a new life for me. I have 2 little girls and I want to live to see them grow up. LBT is a good place to ask you questions or voice your concerns, because there are so many wonderful, supporting people here. Good Luck on your journey.

Dylansmom, What kind of protien shake do you use??? I am new at this and I want to get a good one, none of the ones I've looked at come close to 50g per shake. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Shanna, Sorry to hear about your slip. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that the unfill helps correct the slip.
-
Randy, So sorry to hear about your BIL. Hope your mom and sisterl are getting over the bug. I will keep your family in my prayers

Sorry to hear that happend, but it is probably safer than doing the surgery with your BP up. I also have high BP and it is controlled well with the medication. Keep us posted on what you find out next week at the doctor.
-
Mgood, Don't choose Aetna!!!! They make you jump thru too many hoops and will most likely say no!!! I had a BMI of 49.7, comorbidities - HBP, DEpression, NECK,Back and HIp problems and they wouldn't approve me. (I had to end up self-paying $17,500)

THat's great!!! Tuesday is a good day for surgery( that's the day of the week I had mine done) Best of luck on your upcoming banding.

feeling blah after 1st post op check up
jtrek replied to sparkling's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to my post-op today and she told me it would be 4-6 more weeks before I get a fill. (so I am right there with you...with my luck it will be the 1st or 2nd week of May) But I do understand I need to finish healing on the inside and let the swelling continue to go down. When I start to get frustrated, I do think, just as Suzanne said, about what I will look like next year!!! (((hugs))) the next month will go by fast and May will be here before we know it! -
Way to go!!! You are a model bandster for sure!!!! Do you work out/exercise alot in addition to your healthy eating???? I am just taking notes, because I want to make the most out of my bandland journey!!!

Well tomorrow will be 1 week post-op for me. I only had to take pain med the first 2 days. I have been able to sleep on my stomach somer the last 2 nights. I even went out shopping the day after surgery, and the next and the next.....but by Saturday, I did need to rest some. You will be fine and you will be glad you had the surgery done. Good luck. -
Mary, Way to go girl!!!! I also think sometimes I wonder if this band thing will really work!!! So it makes me feel good to see posts like yours!!! Size 6 is just around the corner..... you will get there!!!! Keep up the good work!

My pre-op was low carb/high protein and I had sf jello with it. I didn't have any popsicles, but I think if they were sf, they would be okay on low carb or liquid pre-op diet

I got my band yesterday(21st). I had my surgery at 8:30am, and was up drinking baium at 2pm for Doctor to see if things were passing ok. I got home around 6pm. I had to cut my pain pills into 4ths to be able to take them....let me tell you after 8 chunks and some sips of Water I felt so full. Today hasn't been as bad. My mom and I took the girls to school and went to Target and SteinMart and a few other little shops. LOL hubby won't believe I was able to go out and spend his money today!!!! thanks to all of you who pepped talk me in the days prior to my surgery!!!!
