Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor I would like a female buddy...
Bratty_Nicole posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I live in Colorado and am looking for someone to be a buddy with. I've posted on other boards before and haven't had a whole lot of luck. A little about me, I am 26 and was recently banded with a Realize band on 10/2/08. At my doctor's office yesterday I have so far lost 19 pounds. I have been married for 2 and 1/2 years now and do not have any children yet. If anyone is interested and is ready to be accountable with me, please let me know. Thanks. -

First off, can I just say 70 lbs!? WOW! That is so awesome! Great job on losing that much!! Ok, now I am only 2 weeks post-op, but I will try to help as best as I can. Maybe you can grab some Protein bars, beef jerkey, Protein shakes, chicken/meats in a can with mayo packets, low carb/soy Snacks from a health food store, or sugar free frozen yogurt/ice cream to take or keep with you in a cooler? I know it isn't a nice home cooked meal, but at least you could make sure you were getting in your protein and good calories for the day. Then when you are at home (on your days off or whatever) make sure you are eating exactly what you need to be eating as well as getting the excercise you need too. If you HAVE to have ice cream, it is ok occasionally. Otherwise if you eat it all the time, it is empty calories. I know it is hard and this happens to everyone at some point, just try as best as you can and you will be successful. As far as your band goes, if you are really concerned with it slipping, I would go see your surgeon. To stop throwing up, either eat slower and chew more, or don't eat that type of food (your band doesn't agree with it). Don't forget to take your daily Vitamins too! I hope I have been somewhat helpful to you and wish you nothing but the best. Good luck!

Wow-ee! It looks like you have been really successful with your band. Congratulations and keep on!

Sweet! I am only 2 weeks post-op, but it sucks not having someone to talk to (because I am the only one I know with a band) about stuff sometimes. I am 6' tall, how tall are you? You look really great in your pictures BTW. You have made some really great progress!! How many CC's do you have in your band now? Do you always come here to Denver to get your fills or have you gone to a fill center where you live? If you want, you can PM me and then our convo isn't so public... :rolleyes2: Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sorry if I misspell (did I even spell "misspell" right? ha-ha) things, but the spell check on here sucks and I don't want to download somthing from a 3rd party website. -
Ahhh...I see! I have heard soooooo many good things about Dr. Brown. He does a lot of the surgeries here in Colorado along with Dr. Snyder and Dr. Kirshenbaum. I know exactly what you mean about all the info, they throw A LOT of info at you all at once. Just take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back, before you know it your surgery date will be here and you will be in the hospital with the non-slip booties on waiting to be wheeled away to surgery. Good luck!

Yep, I get hiccups a lot more now then I ever did before the band. It is painful now, but in a few days when your incisions aren't sore they won't bother you as much. Did Dr. S give you a bariatric bear? My Mom had RNY 4 years ago by him and she got a bariatric bear that is firm and is meant to be held against your tummy when you cough, sneeze (watch out for those, that is KILLING me now with my sore port area), or hiccup. I didn't get one and I thought I just got ripped off, now I am thinking he just doesn't use them anymore... Just use a pillow and don't worry, I asked the same exact question last week on OH.com and the other bandsters said it isn't doing anything to your band. I know if feels like it is, but it honestly isn't. Did you get the Realize band or Lap Band?

Nicole wounds 1 day post op - In this photo I had a pump in the top wound that constantly sent numbing medicine to the lower and middle parts of my belly (mostly the area where my port is) via a small cathader. My husband had to pull it out on Saturday (2

80's September babies rule! I am doing just fine thank you! How are you doing? How is everything healing?

Just follow what YOUR surgeon says. If he says to do a 72 hour liquid diet, then just follow that. Every surgeon is different and what one surgeon says about a diet, another says it is something else. Good luck! :rolleyes2: What is your doctor's name? Is it Colorado Bariatrics or Denver Bariatrics?

My Dr said NO mashed potatoes for soft foods, anyone elses' say this?
Bratty_Nicole replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you are on the soft foods now then you need to eat 75% protein to 25% complex carbs. It should be GOOD carbs though like brocolli, cauliflower, apple, strawberries, basically any soft veggie or fruit (besides potatoes, breads, cookies, cakes, etc...). Glad to know your surgery went well. -
YIKES! I feel sorry for you guys! My doc only required a 24 hour clear liquid diet. If I couldn't see thru it, I couldn't have it. I don't know how you ladies did the liquids for that long and didn't pull ALL of your hair out! It is a distant memory now, but that one day drove me nuts! I guess you do what you gotta do in order to have the surgery done by the doc you want.

I have used Mederma on a scar that I hated and it worked as well as I expected it. It is still there but it is lighter and a lot smoother than before. If it is something you want to do, I say do what makes you happy.

........Like I said on the previous post, if you guys start to take Biotin it will help to stop the hair loss. It is a type of vitamin B specifically for stopping hair loss. Just go to Target and get Biotin. Having expensive tests ran by your doctor isn't nessisary, hair loss happens to all people who lose weight pretty quickly (whether they have had weight loss surgery or just dieting by themselves). My nut said that it starts to happen at the 3rd or 4th month, so just go get Biotin and continue eating your proteins like normal. Hopefully everyone gets it now.

Umm...Yeah, not to sound like an idiot, but what is an RDH?

Hey, just checking in on all of my pumpkin friends. How's everyone doing?

Hi there! We were banded the same day! Anyway, I owuld recommend putting a few extra pillows under your neck and back so you are sitting at an incline. That is how I slept every night up until last night and I had no problems. Hope this helps.
-
Hey guys, You can take a vitamin called "Biotin" and it is specifically for stopping hair from falling out. At Target they have them and they are small enough for our tiny bellys. Another thing you might think about is at the organic grocery store (here in Colorado I saw it at the Sunflower Farmer's Market) they have a Biotin shampoo and conditioner. They are a little cheaper then the Nioxin ($3.99 a bottle compared to $15-$20 a bottle) and smell really good! It has a peppermint smell. If you don't want the shampoo and conditioner and just start to take the pill only, after about a week or two of use you will see your hair loss slow down. Good luck!!

Hi there! I am pretty new to this since I was recently banded, but I have "the rules" fresh in my head, so maybe I can help you. As far as your weight loss stall, have you had a fill at all? If so, how many CC's and how much food are you able to eat? What my doctor wants from me once I start to have fills is to be able to eat 4 ounces of food and be comfortable for 3-4 hours, are you able to do this? Also, do you work out? If you do, maybe it is time to change up your exercises. They say that you should change it up every 8 weeks, so you keep burning as many calories as possible. Hopefully this helps you in some way, let me know how it goes.

Hey Jennie, I know what you mean about the age thing. I don't know why it is, but it seems a lot of people our age aren't really on these kinds of websites. I don't know why, I think it is better to have these types of things done early on in life so you can enjoy the prime! If you know what I mean. Anyway, good luck with your journey and welcome to the young board. :tt2:
