I love green smoothies. I drink about 16oz 4-5 a week. I drink half before and after my workout. Mine usually consists of items like spinach, kale, pineapple, peach, celery, banana, apple, cucumber, ginger, beet powder, hemp hearts, ground up flax seed, lime or lemon juice, spirulina, vital protein powder, protein Greek yogurt, ice, fairlife protein milk, and a tasteless protein powder. I don’t put all of that in, but it’s basically whatever fruit and veggies I have on hand. I do mostly veggies and add a few pieces of fruit to sweeten it up. Lime or lemon cuts the “grass” taste for me. If I want peanut butter, I use PB fit. Have you tried it? It’s good! Btw, I used fresh raspberries the other day and it was delicious. However, there were so many little seeds, I had to strain the shake.

Well congrats to you on your weight loss and maintenance! According to my diet plan from my dr and nutritionist, I can have certain crackers and certain breads toasted. I love a good quarter of a tuna “sandwich” on a weekend. And skinless chicken wings in the air fryer, are also approved for me. 3 skinless wings have 19g protein and 5g fat according to my app I use for tracking. It’s not pure fat. It may have higher fat content than other proteins, but it’s not a forbidden item for my plan. I eat mostly halibut, salmon, and tuna which my husband catches in Hawaii or Alaska on his annual fishing trips. I’m well aware of high proteins, the amount of calories I burn working out, and what’s on my plan. If I want to have something on my approved list, then what’s the problem?

9 Days post-DS Surgery problems with Protein Shakes
Bulabula replied to Randall Morgan's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I can’t do protein shakes like premier or fairlife. The fairlife is easier on my stomach than premier, but they both make me gassy. I was tired of forcing myself to drink them and suffering after. I have cases of it in my pantry and my husband gets gassy from it too. I bought so many whey protein powders from here and elsewhere and all of them make me bloat and gassy. I finally found a protein water my stomach likes. It’s called Bipro protein water. They don’t sell it here and so I have to order it and it’s pricey. But honestly, it’s the only whey protein drink I can stomach. Try different drinks, but don’t buy cases of it or big bags of powder. It’s a waste of money if you can’t eat it. good luck! -

How long did your incisions hurt?
Bulabula replied to GottaLearnToSlowDown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My biggest incision and internal stitches near it hurt for about 6 weeks. I was worried about it, but the dr wasn’t. He was right. Im about 11 weeks out and it’s fine now. I do HIIT workouts and ab workouts with no pain. -
I’m 77 days out from my surgery date and have lost 59lbs. I eat about 700-1000 calories a day. Workout 4-5 days/week (HIIT, rowing, walking, or weights). I eat about 5 small meals a day. Drink 1-2 protein water (20g protien) because I can’t stomach protein shakes. I was eating only 600-700 calories and my nutritionist said to up it to 1000 since I workout. Vitamins, water, etc. I would be starving too if I only ate 3 times a day. I can barely eat a quarter of a tuna sandwich at one meal. Maybe I can max out if I eat 3 chicken wings, two celery sticks, and two cucumber sticks. A snack for me may be a laughing cow cheese wedge and a few thin slices of apple or a small green smoothie (spinach, fairlife milk, peach, celery, beet powder, ginger, banana, hemp, and ice).

Yes, seeded and peeled. I think it’s a local term here lol. Luckily my kids love cucumbers and ranch dressing. I have a garden popping with cucumbers. Maybe I’ll plant some seedless ones next year.

I don’t eat full salads because I can barely hit my protein goal. I do like to have lettuce wraps. I use them like taco shells. I like getting both protein and veggies. I Eat homemade green smoothies, homemade garden salsa, and add veggies to my meals (stews, soups, sauces, etc). I’ll eat a skimmed cucumber with chicken salad anytime.

My nutritionist told me to up my calories if I’m very active. So now I’ll add a protein bar in between meals. This gives me a small energy boost and about 40 g of protein. Taking my chewable vitamins helps too. There are some days I run out of energy and I need to nap.

Oh, and keep walking! It’s in the 90s here too so I go before 8am or after 8pm. Sometimes twice a day.

I’m 3 weeks post op and I have no shame in getting IVs. I had two bags a few days after surgery as scheduled by my Dr, two bags (one Myers drip) a week after, two bags 3 weeks after. They helped me so much as I was so used to drinking a gallon a day preop. 30-40oz of water wasn’t cutting it for me. And if I drink whey protein shakes, I bloat up like a balloon, so bad. I’m drinking a lot more water now. But if I ever feel dehydrated, you best believe I’ll get me a drip. For drinking my protein, someone here advised me to drink protein20 over a large cup of ice. The water, I infuse it with fruits or cucumbers. When I walk I take a small 8oz water bottle with me and I’ll sip it while walking. I’m probably getting 60 Oz of water a day, but I have to constantly remind myself to keep sipping throughout the hour. At your phase, I was given a tip to measure out 4 Oz of water in a shot glass. Sip on that for the hr. Repeat. It was a task! But it made me conscious of how little I was getting in. hope you feel better today! Sip sip sip.

COVID weight gain - Suggestions for "back to basics"
Bulabula replied to dtmd's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Congratulations! You look great! I’m only a few weeks post op but I hear ya when you say you’ve gained 25 lbs, it could creep up if you don’t make changes. I hear there are reset your pouch diets. Check out Pinterest. Also Dr Weiner on YouTube has some great lifestyle tips and some great advice too. -
Best of luck! It’s a major life changing decision. I was nervous too but I reminded myself of my blood lab work and how high my cholesterol and A1C was. I love my kids and want to live for them. I went happily into surgery. After surgery, well that’s a different game, but same reasons to live as be happy. A tip I wish I would have known: constipation is very common. Take benefiber or miralax in your tea. As early as you can. Sip away all day.

Way to go! When I could finally eat soft foods, I felt like I had more energy. However, I get depleted fast and forget to eat or drink. I’m over protein drinks. 😑 they were making me bloat and I get sick on them. I’ve bought some new whey protein powders and I’m hoping they’ll be gentler on my stomach.
