Day 2 post VSG & gas is killing me!
Bulabula replied to Mukami's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ask your dr if you can take gas-x. Walk and try sleeping on a recline. -
I’m 18 days post op. Since surgery I’ve lost 16lbs. In the last week I’ve lost 3 lbs. Pros: clothes are looser or fit better. I see a change in my body from losing 31lbs. I can eat soft foods! Found my new tummy likes fresh tuna filets, chicken salad (canned chicken), avocado, and shrimp. Learning to eat very slow. I go for 2 mile walks everyday and feel great when done. Cons: I miss eating at parties or with the family. I’m fatigued. I’ve gotten 4 bags of IV since surgery. I’m dehydrated because I can’t drink enough water as my body is used to having a gallon a day pre surgery. I can’t eat enough protein because of the restriction makes me full. Shakes make me sick. Constipated. I am overall happy with my my results. The cons are temporary and I know within a few days or weeks, it’ll pass. For my 6 month wls celebration, we’re planning on going to French Polynesia and I’m surfing the web shopping for swimsuits two sizes smaller. The health benefits will be seen when I get a blood test in month 3. How are you?

I’m 3 weeks post op. Water and protein, the two most important things for healing, and I can’t meet any of those goals. Today I’m focusing on getting in 80g protein. I have to eat my protein because the shakes make me sick. Tomorrow I’m scheduled for an IV because I know I’m dehydrated and I can’t drink enough to recover. For fiber, I bought Costco’s brand of benefiber. I’m hoping that will help regulate my BMs. I’m happy to hear your scars are disappearing!! Good luck getting in your protein!
-
Kiora! I also find it easier to drink teas or warm drinks. The cold protein shakes do not sit well with me and I have decided not to force myself to drink them if I can get my protein from food. Thanks for the tips!

This is why I didn’t tell anyone. I didn’t want them to influence me on my decision. Sorry you’re going thru this. Maybe tell them thank you for their caring opinion and you’ll take it into consideration.

@smarks so sorry. This must be so difficult. Please remember to take care of yourself while mourning. I lost a child years ago and the mourning is a roller coaster you can’t get off of. Sending prayers 🙏🏼

I had DS. I’m 11 days post op. the first two days I was throwing up old blood, which is normal. I had the nurses give me those chuck bags to throw up in. I didn’t really “drink”. I ate ice cubes, slept at a recline on a couch (legs propped up), walked around my hotel room, used the bathroom a lot, and just slept! Take your nausea meds and pain killer. It helps! Try to stay positive and think about how healthy you’re becoming or what you want to do when you lose x amount of weight. On day 3 of post op, my dr prescheduled 2 IV bags. They were very helpful! That night I was able to sip 2 oz of broth or soup an hour and have an ice cube. Now I can drink about 10 Oz of bone broth in an hour or two. I recommend getting Swanson bone broth sipping cups. So yummy after all the sweets drinks. I dislike all these protein drinks and my stomach gets so bloated from them. So I mix a scoop of unflavored whey protein in my Greek yogurts. I’m still struggling to get the recommended amount of protein and water in. But I feel better now that I’m getting at least 40 Oz of water plus some liquid foods. I walk about 2 miles a day. Sometimes one mile in the AM and a mile in the PM. I always sip water, and I mean tiny sips, thru my walks. One thing I highly wish my DR told me was to use benefiber or miralax pre op and post op. I was constipated these last few weeks! Im talking pebbles type of BM after 2 WLS of nothing. Ive been mixing miralax in my morning tea and used fleet suppositories and that has been helping me finally. But goodness, I wish I was on benefiber preop. Also, I’ve taken gas-x three times since surgery and it has helped! Hallelujah! I hope you feel better quickly!

Swanson sipping bone broth cups! Oh my! These come in a variety of flavors. Are microwaveable. Taste yummmm! Has 9g of protien. Perfect for liquid diet. Sugar free jello, sf popsicles, sugar free pudding made with almond milk and frozen.

I had my heavy period a week before surgery. Then again three days post op. It was a full heavy period, which surprised me. However, I hope it'll regulate in a few months. When I lose weight I expect to be a little off. Plus with a major surgery, it will take time to balance out.

Vacation 3 months after surgery?
Bulabula replied to cellbell's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I grew up eating lots of traditional Japanese foods and have gone to Japan often. The soups are fantastic! Best broths! By three months, you should be ok to eat a lot there and physically ok as well. They have yummy chicken or fish options and eat a lot of cooked veggies. Take some miralax with you just in case. -
Thank the Bariatric Gods! I gave birth to BM pebbles today! 😂 I bought suppositories today too just in case. I’ll pick up benefiber at Costco.

Walking after Surgery
Bulabula replied to Tinman0034's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m10 days post op DS and walked two miles yesterday. It felt great! As long as you’re not straining or need a change ofclothes to exercise, walking is usually encouraged. But check with your drs. -
Oh no! I’m 9 days post op and I haven’t had a BM for 14 days! Today is the first day I’m feeling bloated and a little constipated. Preop I was drinking a gallon a day and following the preop diet, same as post op. It’s crazy I haven’t gone! I took colace for two days preop and have taken 3 doses of miralax. Nothing! im not in pain, but I’m bloating! I think I’ll get a suppository. Don’t want a trip to the ER.

I have a gallon size bottle like this that I used before surgery. Loved it! Now I’m struggling to get down 34oz a day. I’m one week out of DS and I decided to wake up earlier to start sipping. Seeing if I can get a few more ounces in today.

phase 3 for me means Soft meals. As the host, are you supposed to provide the main dish(es)? Or are you just providing a place to gather? Turkey chili soft fruit salad (peaches, pears apricots, bananas, seedless melons) Canned chicken salad (provide rolls for sandwiches) baked or poached white fish, shrimp, meatballs cooked vegetables
-
Good advice. I’m now watching the clock and sipping. I’m aiming for 2oz every 15 mins as I know I may fall behind later in the day.

Wow! Look at those gains! Love how your toning up!

Congratulations! You’re looking great! So close to your GOAL!

Lying about not getting surgery is awful
Bulabula replied to GinormousReislin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Only my husband knows about my surgery. For Christmas 2020, I bought us exercise machines and set up a gym in our home. I thought I would jump on the health train and get myself healthy. However, months went by and I didn’t change my habits or diet enough. I wasn’t even thinking about WLS in April 2021. However, I felt my health declining and I finally weighed myself. 250 lbs at 5’6”. I’ve never gone over 220 before, even when 9 months pregnant. My blood tests showed I am pre-diabetic, have high cholesterol, and anemia. Everything bad that runs in my DNA and that I said I would prevent. That’s my issue, all that is preventable. I li This is when I decided I needed to make a drastic change and invest in my health. I called several doctors and because I was paying cash, I was able to have my surgery scheduled within three weeks from my first consult! I’m 6 days out of DS Surgery and I’m happy I haven’t told anyone about WLS. My siblings and friends think I had an operation to fix my heavy periods. Before surgery, I was dieting and exercising for a few weeks and lost 15 lbs. I told friends and family about my blood test results and how our family was making healthier decisions. This was enough info for everyone. Maybe one day I’ll tell those that may want to know, but as of right now, I’m focused on getting myself to be healthy and that’s enough. -
It does feel like a bubble and a burp! I’m glad to hear it gets better. Im feeling the dehydration effects. I’ll double up on my sf popsicles ! I put some crystal light in my bottle water and that’s helped me drink 8 ounces before 10 am.
-
I’m on day 4 post op. Liquid diet for two weeks. I can barely drink 16 oz. I can’t wait for puréed foods.I’m salivating thinking of all the foods you ate. I’m sure with more walking and exercise, you’ll be dropping lbs. I plan to only weigh in once a week, early in the morning. Good luck!
-
Do you still like it?
-
Btw, before surgery I was guzzling a gallon a day. Ithink my body is noticing the huge difference.
-
I use the vital proteins and my nutritionist said to count it towards my protein. I’m 4 days out from DS and have mixed in my soups, jello, shakes, etc.

I had DS three days ago. There’s some gas pain and uncomfortable pain to be tolerated. Nothing excruciating for me. However, the nausea from the drugs kicked my butt. The other patient who had a sleeve, was fine and dandy, talking, eating, etc.
