    BMI and insurance

I know where you are coming from Bella. I do not qualify through my insurance either. WLS is something I have thought about for several years now. I have tried everything in the book, but because I am not 100 lbs over and have I don't have any comorbities I do not qualify as too fat. Go figure. I need to lose about 80, but would need to gain 40 to 50 for insurance. Anyway, I have decided to self pay and am going to Mexico on the 30th of this month. I am 5'5" and 220 so my BMI is somewhere around 36/37. Good luck!
  2. are best to take after being banded? I am thinking maybe childrens flintstone vitamins at first and the later on regular vitamins? Any suggestions? Thanks. Heather

    tummy tuck

I am going to do the same thing. I think I will mention this to the doctor before the surgery. My "baby" tummy won't snap back either.

    Pills and Supplements

I was wondering about the Phentermine. Before I decided to definantly self pay for my surgery I went to my doctor, just to see if maybe my insurance had changed their guidelines. Nope. He was not opposed to me having surgery, but clearly I didn't qualify (yeah, what do they know, lol)so he offered me phentermine. I did not tell him I had thought of being self pay for the surgery in Mexico. I did except the perscription and filled it. I haven't used it but wondered, it is something I could use after being banded, you know for those 'rough' days. I see here some of you have been using it occasionally. I took it years ago by itself and also when it was phen/fen. It worked both times, but only while I was taking it. That is what I worry about, if I nee dthat still after being banded, isn't that defeating the purpose of the band? I don't know.
  5. I go to Mexico on the 30th. I am up on Clarksville, TN. I think it is about a three hour drive to Memphis, how far is it from there to Oxford, MS? I have looked about and have a few I will call when it is time to have a fill. Thanks Heather

    worried about my best friend

sorry, KWIM, means know what I mean. lol You know as for long term, I don't even know if there would be an data about something like that. In my opinion I wouldn't think it would be much different then anyone else. But, what do I know? lol

What do you do for a living?

Boy most of you have great "jobs". Well, I wouldn't trade my job for anything in the world, but I am, and have been a Stay at Home Mom for almost 10 years! EEK! I have a "never use" degree in Criminal Justice. I don't think I will ever use it either, I like my current job too much. :clap2:

Has anyone tried Xenical for weight loss?

No, I haven't taken it, but isn't that the one that gives you, well, there is no nice way to put this, oily farts/poops that you can't control? I don't think I would take it. eek! Like you said, if I could do the diet and exercise thing I wouldn't be doing the WLS! lol

    worried about my best friend

I think the only thing I would worry about would be her getting the munchies and wanting to eat. I don't necessarily condone smoking marijuana, however, I don't see any more harm coming from smoking that than say regular tobacco cigs. Not that they aren't harmful, but you KWIM, it isn't crack or heroin. I have always thought it rediculous they never legalized it myself.
  10. I am going to Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey, MX. My date is the 31st. I have only heard good things about him, thank goodness. lol Good luck. I too don't qualify here in the states for the surgery. I would have to gain an additional 50 lbs to be considered by my insurance. That is just not an option. Someday hopefully doctors will realize that someone needing to get rid of 80 lbs is just as hard as someone trying to get rid of 200 lbs. We are all different. Good luck.

    What was your turning point?

Many things have set this off, besides the obvious, better sex, :biggrin1: my husband finding me physically attractive again. (yes, love is many things, but it can't make you physically attracted to someone, and sex at that point becomes somewhat humdrum and well, for one thing only and that is for, well, you know what.) And then there is being 35, and not being able to go into a store to buy clothing that fits my age. Most department stores carry large sizes now, but for women who are 55+, not 35. I realize there are some styles that would not convert well to a size 20 or more, but come on, not all women who are large want to dress like grandma, KWIM? No offense to those of you who maybe close to that age, you were once 35 and I am sure didn't want to dress like a 55 year old. I also miss the days when I bought my close at the Gap. They don't carry anything larger than a 16 in the store and that is hard to find even. I shop at Old Navy alot now, but even there the styles are limited. And another reason is my dd. She is built like my dh, very slender. She has made comments about me not being able to "play" with them outside like daddy does. I want to play outside like daddy does! I would also like to start being in pictures again! I have to say I am very photogentic, when I am thin! In the past 9 years there has been a HUGE decline in mommy being in pictures. Tons of daddy and kids, but mommy has been absent far too long. :cry WIth the weight came great inhabitions. I have always been somewhat introverted, but now, I am just plain pitiful. Being a military wife we move often and have to 'start over' wiht new friends etc everytime. I think I have missed great opportunities for friendship becasue I feel so yucky about myself I don't think anyone can see past my weight. So, I withdraw and don't nurture potential friendships. Hmm, is that it? Probably not, but those are the main points.

    Embarassing Gas syptoms

This thread is just too funny!!! :funnypost: I am from a VERY gassy family-parents, sister brother. Hamhocks and Beans were a staple for my dad. :hungry: He was famous for letting it rip and walking out of the room. (I guess is was good my mom had a decent up bringing to teach us that not polite! lol) So, when I married my husband it was a bit shocked at how gassy and loud my farts were! He comes from a rather prudish family where his mom NEVER farted in front of them and his dad only on occasion. That sure isn't how our home is now. LET THEM RIP! If they are really ordoriferous (as we say) we do go to another room. I will probably be one of those who has bad gas. :phanvan Oh wll, like some said, at least I will be healthy and look good! lol
  14. Hi, my surgery date is the 31st of March. At this point it is a secret from everyone except my husband, parents, and of course my children. My mom and sister did have Gastric bypass so I do have that support. And even though my husband cannot understand the magnitude of my situation, he is VERY supportive. Loves me either way, but wants me to be happy, whether that is at 220 or 140. This has been something I have wanted for so long, I have researched Gastric Bypass for many years. I never qualified for the gastric bypass, so when I came across the band, it was like something sent from Heaven! This is my last chance to be the woman I was pre-babies. The woman my vary thin husband married almost 11 years ago. He didn't have much time with her (and her happy self) because as soon as the babies came, the weight never went away. The worst part, I used to be a runner, 5 to 10 miles a day 4 days a week plus Physical fitness training 5 days a week (I was in the army). Over the past 3 or 4 years my husband (who is in the Army) has been away quite a bit. Deployed for a year in 2003 and again now as I type. Unfortuately my coping mechinism is eating. And eating the wrong things. I know I should grab the apple instead of the cookies. I even stopped buying any kind of snacks so I won't eat them. That just leads me to eat out. My MAJOR vice. I truely don't have any friends who have a weight problem. Anyone I have mentioned it to hems and haws about why would you do that, try this try that. Honestly someone who is a size 5 (which is what I was when we got married) and doesn't feel good and loses 15 lbs to feel good CANNOT EVEN relate to the pain and anguish inside of someone like me. 15 lbs to me is nothing, I can pee that out! My best friend just flat out said I am wrong and shouldn't do it. So, I have told no one. I even told my kids this is not somethign they discuss with their friends or teachers etc. My mom is coming to take care of them while I am in Mexico. I told htem I would inform their teachers I will be out of town, but they don't need to tell them why. My kids are having a rough time with me going away, especially since my husband is deployed, mommy here is at least something. I explained to them that it is time I do something for me again. All my energy has gone into raising them and that energy is about gone. I haven't been in many photographs in the past 5 years, I want to be in pictures again! I can get out and play ball and stuff, but I tire easily and have sit down. So, I guess to my original question, what, in personal experiences, have you told people after your weight lose? I mean, do you tell them how you did it? Or do you just smile and say thanks. I guess I feel like maybe they would redicule me all over again for wanting and doing this. Thanks for any advice or input. Heather

    Is This True?

Don't believe what the doctor says about the U.S. sending old expired medical products to mexico (latin america). lol Unfortunately people speak through ignorance without researching first. Your problem I am sure has nothing to do with having had it done in Mexico.

    Putting off the surgery...

EXACTLY! And it is always those who have never experienced real weight problems!
  17. jude0426

    What do I say?(sorry long)

    Exactly! LOL
  18. Unfortunately people who have never had to struggle with their weight (and I don't mean those who want to lose 15 lbs here and there), I mean truely stuggle have no IDEA the magnitude of what they are saying when they have basically told us we have already failed. By this i mean they say it isn't a good idea. That goes for doctor's who do not support the RNY. My mother's doctor didn't either, but she had the surgery anyway and is healthier and 100 lbs lighter now. I would change doctors if mine told me he didn't support my decision.
  19. Hi, I sort of introduced myself on another thread. But, I will again, my name is Heather, and my surgery date is March 31st in Monterrey, MX with Dr. Sanchez. Anyway, for those of you who did go to Mexico how easy is it to find a doctor to do the fills up here? And what are the costs involved? I have been doing a bit of research myself and feel pretty confident I won't have any trouble finding someone, but I would like personal opinions/experience. Thanks. Heather

    New here with questions

Thanks you guys. I guess I will have to start calling around when it comes time. I am looking at around $800 to fly and stay in mexico for fills, so I think it maybe cheaper to find something around here for now. We are moving back to So. California next year and going to mexico will be no problem. Thanks again.

    I have been reading

alot of posts on here of people who have not lost any weight after being banded. A couple after several months. How is this? Is there a different regiment the doctors are putting people on? Are those who are not losing not eating wrong? I just wonder. It worries me in a way I suppose.
  22. Thanks for his number! My surgery is on the 31st. I am getting anxious.
  23. Hey ladies, I am at Fort Campbell, so basically right here in Clarksville as well. I do not qualify through our insurance to have this done here so I am going to Mexico. Wonder if either of you would know if he will do the fills on people who had it done elsewhere. I am finding more times than not they won't. Thanks.
