    Periods

Yes, they gave me mesh underwear with a pad. It was gone when I awoke…. Luckily a light day or it would have been messy…
  2. I changed to Syntrax unflavored protein powder. Very slight smell in the container, but almost imperceptible in oatmeal. I won’t be buying Genepro again after I finish what’s left.
  3. True, tastes change after surgery. I used Genepro and added it to a bit of Crystal Light. Sweets were gross at first. Bone broth helped. If it makes you feel better for the time being, I couldn’t keep much down for weeks (vomiting), including protein, but I made it through. So if you are in contact with your surgeon, a temporary delay in protein is doable till you make it to soft foods. GL!
  4. I could use some help figuring out how to proceed with the all-important protein! What do you all use? I don’t like anything with flavor, so I’m just comparing unflavored powders. 1) Genepro— been using for months successfully, but their product (or labeling?) changed so it might be time to change. Maybe I’ve overestimated how much protein I got if they mislabeled?? 2) Tried Isopure and BiPro Bold (both yuck) 3) Considering Unjury Unflavored—does anyone use this? Taste, smell, texture? 24g scoop, 21g protein at $1.60 per serving. 4) New Genepro (3rd generation) is lower on protein. Calculated to compare to Unjury, a 22g scoop is 22g protein at $2.66 per serving. 5) Someone posted about Vital Proteins, but it contains a lot more sodium than I’d like. 6) Am I missing any other options? Thanks!
  5. Update: The Syntrax Roadside Lemonade flavor is fine. When I mix 30 g of protein in 3 cups of water, it is a bit gritty and semi-sweet. However, when I reduced it to the 23 g of protein in one full scoop, and add half a packet of crystal light, it is just right. The Unflavored Syntrax has only a slight smell in the container. When I mixed 10 g of protein into my oatmeal, it is only slightly perceivable. Definitely doable. Will continue with these protein powders! Thanks.
  6. Great questions! Although I do not drink, it is definitely possible to eat at a restaurant again. I try to view the menu online before I go, to save time and have a plan so I’m not studying at the table. I do eat mostly healthy foods at restaurants, and usually have leftovers. It’s socializing that is the most fun, so all good!

    Vitamins

Agree! Any time should be fine. One thing that helped me initially was taking a multivitamin without iron, and at the same time taking a slow release iron pill. This occurred towards the end of my breakfast. I now take the bulk of pills (such as allergy and others, with one 500 calcium) for the day at dinner since my pouch accepts them more freely.

    Post op day 4 vomiting

    How are you doing today?
  9. I ordered the Syntrax unflavored (for oatmeal, soups, etc.) and also lemonade flavor (for everyday fluids). It had good reviews, and I’m hopeful that the lemonade flavor tastes similar to Crystal Light. At the very least, it looks like the least expensive high quality product. I’ll post again on flavor in a few weeks. 😀
  10. Thanks! Looks good, but $2.40 per serving on Amazon? Do you get it cheaper somewhere else?

    Post op day 4 vomiting

Sorry to hear this. According to my nutritionist, vomiting is not normal. Was there something that precipitated it? Circumstances? I had vomiting for weeks and could try to help. Call your doctor’s exchange if after hours. GL!
  12. I found my nutritionist’s pre-op notes and read the following unflavored powders: 1) Designer Whey Isolate (contains 1g added sugar…deal breaker?) 2) Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard (1g added sugar) 3) Inspire Bariatric: 24g scoop, 92 calories, 20g protein, at $2.10 per serving (expensive) 4) Syntrax Nectar Unflavored Whey Protein Isolate: Calculated to compare to others, 22g scoop, 20g protein, at $1.02 per serving (reasonable) Has anyone tried Syntrax Nectar Unflavored? Taste, smell, texture? Thanks!
  13. I asked this same question to my nutritionist! She said she would eat the soup alone and count it as one of my liquids.
  14. Now that the new Genepro changed their product, I am looking for a new brand. I tried BiPro Bold and Isopure, both unflavored. Both tasted and smelled like mold and had to be discarded. Does anyone use a protein powder that is unflavored, and truly tastes and smells like nothing?

  16. I read something about that before I first purchased it. When I checked in with my nutritionist and surgeon, they okayed Genepro. Is this lawsuit more recent, in the last few months? Trying to figure out how to proceed with protein powder. I tried a few others (unflavored) and they smelled and tasted like mold. Discarded them. (Edit: Includes Isopure Unflavored, and BiPro Boldly Bare Unflavored). Does anyone have an unflavored protein powder that smells and tastes like nothing, truly?

    This surgery is bullshit...

This! How this tool makes it much less painful to lose weight. Hard to ignore feeling hungry.

    This surgery is bullshit...

Good point. My doctor was excellent with the actual surgery. However, most of what I learned about how to succeed, I learned from the nutritionist. And, being on this forum has been great ongoing support, with additional ideas from those who have been there.

    This surgery is bullshit...

Yes. My surgeon is with a teaching hospital and indicated up front that research shows this is the best proven way to keep weight off long-term for people who have been unable to maintain weight loss in the past. I figured this is my best chance of success, if I follow their recommendations. My program did not recommend tracking calories, although that may work for some people.

    This surgery is bullshit...

Sorry to hear things have been rough. Tracking calories does not work for me, I’ve learned from other eating plans that it makes me obsessive, and is not sustainable for me. Perhaps talking with a nutritionist about what you are eating each day might help? I follow the rules of 60 or more grams of protein each day, no added sugar, 5 g or less fat per serving, and eat until I am satisfied. No more. During the work week, I eat the same thing every day from breakfast until afternoon snack. Dinners are healthy and usually involve some form of chicken or turkey. I know this might not work for everyone, but it makes it easy for me and my weight loss has been great. Ultimately, each person is different, and what works for me and my program may not work best for you. I hope you find something that works for you, and allows you to use your new tool to the fullest!

    UGH - Thanksgiving Regrets

I was looking for a post like this! Good tips a year later. 😀 I bought some fancy sugar-free candies and will have one a night since the other desserts are something I will not do. As host, I am in charge of most of the menu, so I made sure I can eat several things in moderation and still be on track. However, I am accustomed to grazing throughout the day while I am cooking, so I will try to have some movies on to distract me. Any other tips on not blowing Thanksgiving?

    Type of diet?

My program is protein, veggies/fruit, and some carbs. Stay 5 grams of fat or less per serving. No added sugar. I don’t count calories. Eat till comfortable, no more. Keto foods are tricky because some are great, but some contain too much fat. Seems to be working and doable long term.
  23. It’s happening more nowadays…work, neighbors, etc. Half “you’ve lost some weight “ and half “You look so good!” People who usually don’t talk with me much. Why is the space that someone takes up so important to others? And why does anyone need to comment on someone else’s body? And if I look “great” now, what did they think of my image a year ago? I realize that some people thrive on these types of comments, and I am glad that they are helping. But do these comments make anyone else uncomfortable and a bit irritated?
  24. I chose not to have added sugar anymore. However, I use some artificial sweeteners, and a Protein One bar feels like dessert! Bariatric Pal chocolate calcium chews also feel like candy.
  25. I hear you! I also drink less liquids, especially wearing a mask and having to take it off to drink. I don’t know what to say about not being able to use the restroom as much as you want… Maybe talk with your principal or colleagues about being able to go at least every 60 to 90 minutes? Do you like fish? If so, perhaps a nearby grocery store seafood counter will cook your fish for free? I get a little over a half a pound of fish on Sundays, and then divide it up into five containers. I top the fish with different beans each week, and a little shredded cheese. Microwave for 20 seconds and you’re set! Easy! Cheap, quick! Baking chicken breast and cutting it up over the weekend would do the same thing. In addition to protein bars, you could keep grocery store chicken pouches in your classroom. Good luck! 😀
