To Lie or Not to Lie

It's not "lying" to choose not to disclose surgery, especially to prying questions. (A better name for this thread would be "To Disclose or Not to Disclose," in my opinion.) Lying would be telling an untruth: "I had liposuction 27 times!" Come to think of it, that's not a bad answer -- but I'm planning to use a cool "I don't care to discuss it publicly" for unwelcome questions.

    Gaining awhile Pre op

Yes, I've gained during pre-op. Seems like every time I manage to lose three pounds, I also manage to put at least two of them right back on, even with exercise, careful logging, and a calorie deficit. Frustrating, sure, but I'd rather lose-three-gain-two than lose-three-gain-four, which I've also done.
  3. Wish I had a trick to help, but I'm a stall-and-whoosh loser, too. Here's wishing you a good three-pound whoosh soon!

    September Surgeries!

I thought I was near the home stretch, but my clinic has come to a screeching halt with the hospital postponing all non-emergent surgeries again due to the past month's pandemic spike. (sigh)
  5. You've lost 95 pounds in six months and you think that's slow? How much were you expecting to lose by now? I'm not trying to be snotty; I'm seriously asking why you're devastated rather than thrilled.

16 weeks postop and hate food

That may very well be the cause of some of the trouble you're having. Try strictly following your clinic's timing recommendations about fluids/solid food, and see if that improves things for you. Good luck!
  7. Many people with body dysmorphia have reported that it can often be "tricked" by looking at photographs, not mirrors. Side and rear views (not face on) seem to help.

The water is just cool enough to be refreshing, so dive on in!

    Hurtful comments

Tell your brother, "True, I've eaten too much in the past -- but at least I haven't put my foot in my mouth today."

I need a pep talk (rant to follow)

Aww, honey. Beating yourself up doesn't count as cardio, so cut it out. You're letting fear and anger make you miserable; why not give love and respect a chance instead?

No apologies needed -- I'm always interested!
  12. Bummer about your postponement -- I hope it's brief. Here's a link to a less restrictive pre-op diet that another poster received. It seems so sustainable to me that I'm currently following it to lose weight (I'm not scheduled for surgery yet). With 64 oz. of water daily, it isn't as hellish as most pre-op diets I've seen.

    Should I do a pre-op diet anyway?

This seems so reasonable for a pre-op diet, and I daresay it gets better compliance than most. I'd sure rather do three weeks of this than two weeks of most pre-op diets I've seen.

That looks like it would be worth regretting. I practically licked the monitor.

Those look good. Is the recipe online, I hope?

    Pre-Op Appts/Weight

Same here. They gave me three months to drop a specific number of pounds, but two months later I'm still losing and then regaining the same three pounds over and over, despite water/exercise/careful logging. And I'm sure the dietician is getting sick of my increasingly frantic emails.

    Getting very nervous and anxious

I don't know where the other one is, but the NSV one is here:

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

It could also mean that there's no standardization among sizes, especially for women's clothing. Tends to hold true that the more expensive the garment, the smaller the size tag the manufacturer puts on it. Congratulations on your tremendous accomplishment -- 71 pounds is a lot!
  19. Here's what my team recommends after the first month (when you just take children's chewables twice a day):
  20. Even cheap scales usually have a tare weight feature, where you can zero out an empty dish before putting your food on/in it. (Your way would work, too, but why waste paper?)

Oh my, that quiche looks divine!
  23. You could have intentionally bad posture that day. If you don't stand up too straight when your height is measured, it will revise your BMI upward. <innocent whistling>
