May Surgeries - check in!

How? I’ve been doing spirometry for a week which is much more powerful than a straw. How does sipping through a straw tear a staple line? Air and pressure exists in your stomach naturally. Is there evidence of this or just programs cautioning patients against it in case they take in too much liquid? -
Vitamins after surgery
GummyBearQueen replied to AristoKat721's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I take a regular multivitamin from Costco with no issue. Any reason why they have to be chewable? -
What's the deal with "Straws vs No Straws"
GummyBearQueen replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They gave me a straw in the hospital post-op. I use them all day, every day. I get all my fluids and protein. No plans to ever stop using them. -
Liquid diet help
GummyBearQueen replied to Mary soza's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquid diets are the worst. I’m in the post-op pureed stage right now and my only advice is to power through. This is the work and sacrifice we have to make. We’ve all been there! -
9 years post OP and cant eat
GummyBearQueen replied to La Guerita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you live in a small town, your healthcare is likely limited. I recommend heading to a major metro health system for help. Good luck! -

What's your best post op advice?
GummyBearQueen replied to Sarahgirl10's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your healing journey is unique, you’re going to be hungry, you’re going to mourn food, you’re going to realize you have to stick to the plan (no cheat days early on)…and you’re going to meet your goal in your own time. -

Many self pays in the US go to Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas. No hoops to jump through, check out their site. -

No, I work in technology so it’s obvious there are some issues the site admin needs to address. -
How much weight did you lose before surgery?
GummyBearQueen replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost no weight prior to surgery with the exception of my pre-op liver shrinking diet where I lost 13 pounds in two weeks (I did two protein shakes per day and a sensible dinner). I had surgery on 5/25 and I’m down five pounds. -

A virus on your machine wouldn’t affect this site. They need to tidy up behind the scenes. -
I also have a Sleep Number. I highly recommend.

Nutritionist was NO help at all
GummyBearQueen replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don’t think so, but I’d call your insurance and check. If your insurance covers nutrition counseling, you should be safe. I am very quick to change providers when I’m not getting what I need. I saw four gastroenterologists before I found the one I’m with now. -
Nutritionist was NO help at all

Easy…hire another one. They don’t have to be affiliated with your bariatric program. -

It’s a bit odd that she’s not creating a plan specifically for your needs. It’s likely time to get a new perspective. -

I thought this, too! I’ve had no issues, to date. I’m a week out from VSG, am back to work (desk job, wfh), and I’m feeling great! I do feel I have to eat slowly when munching on applesauce but I drink fine now (had a few sipping annoyances the first few days). I plan to walk about a mile today to destress from the shit-show that is a week of unanswered work emails, lol. Even my giant multi vitamin goes down without issue (thankfully). Good luck to everyone on this journey!

Bruising Not on Incisions
GummyBearQueen replied to SoWorthItK's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 5/25 and I have a mysterious bruise as well. But, we just went through surgery! My hands and arms are also bruised from blood draws, IVs, etc. -

Emotional and Stressed 5 days out
GummyBearQueen replied to Incredibleshrinkiningkiley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 5/25. This is where our mental strength has to come into play. We cannot…cannot…progress to the next phase before our bodies are ready because it could be life-threatening. There is no better journey to be on than one of better health. -
May Surgeries - check in!
GummyBearQueen replied to ChunkyCali's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nope, no additional guidance. I am drinking meal replacements so I’m sure I’m getting fiber but I’ve had no discomfort. -
Portion sizes?
GummyBearQueen replied to Mommy wants to be able's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2-4 ounces, eaten slowly. It differs across programs, so I’d reach out to your nutritionist. -

GummyBearQueen replied to ChunkyCali's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My nutrition plan warns to stay away from broccoli, cauliflower, and other high fiber veggies for now (I’m in the pureed phase).
