What was the straw that broke the camel's back for you?
southerngirl24 replied to southerngirl24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To some this may be a depressing thread, but I do not believe so. I think it represents the strength and determination of those of us on the board. It is really hard being overweight and trying to do something about it, but you failed.:frown:The awesome thing is that we have sought the help we need to get healthy and to re-claim our lives. I know I for one am sick of life passing me by. I hope approval comes through soon!:tongue_smilie: -
Hopw everything went well!

My insurance required a 5 year weight history and I had to do the same thing with the photos. I had only 3 years of medical history out of that time. It was a major reality check. -

It's the same thing. I was a captain of the dance team in high school, a cheerleader for three years before that. I remember when I could bend and twist myself around like it was nothing. An now it is ajob to tie my shoes. -
Consultation August 8th!!
southerngirl24 replied to irreplaceable's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my consultation they took my height, weight, bp and a full medical history. I also had a EKG and my labs were done. I met the surgeon and then the nurse also came in and they explained the procedure to me, what to expect the day of surgery and we went over the pre-op and post op diets. We also discussed my insurance and I was told I have great insurance.:lol:I was nervous going in but it was very informative to me and there is nothing to be nervous about. If you have questions make sure you write them down. I had a page full and took my dh to ask any that I may have forgot. Good Luck to you! -
I know Black dont crack but...
southerngirl24 replied to justicenyce's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well I have not been banded yet. The sista who is my wight loss advocate had the procedure over four years ago. She lost 120 pounds and she said that she had very little issue with loos skin. Just a bit on the back of her arms. I know our skin can adjust and endure some things better than others, but I am worried about loose skin around my tummy and the back of my arms. So I am planning on having some things returned to there correct place if it becomes an issue. -

I have always loved to take pictures. Up until I really did not like the image on them. I could not believe that it was me in some of them. I have pictures from when I was a child, through a teenager and through my first preganancy and then for four year I have none. I begin taking them again to chronicle where I am starting from. -
When did you start your pre-op diet?
southerngirl24 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How soon after you got approved did you start your pre-op? I have a tenative date of 8/1 and I am afraid I will not have enough time to do my diet. -
 My file has been submitted to UHC for approval. I am being told to call back to the AIGB office here in Houston on Tuesday to check on it. Is'nt that a bit soon? How soon should I call my insurance to see if they have gotten the info? Thanks!

Today is Saturday July 12th. I began my process back in November but I got cold feet. My personal life was a mess and I was not ready. Now here I am six months later back to the beginning. I have alreday had my lab work, EKG and weight history done. I am so done with being overweight. I want to be the fly sexy diva on the outside to match the way I feel on the inside. I want to be healthy and I am sick of hurting when I sit down, when I get up, etc...:frown: I am hoping to hear something about approval soon, that way I can begin my new life right along with my birthday.

My file was submitted yesterday. I was told to call back on Tuesday to check the status. I think I am going to start calling the insurance on Tuesday instead of the center. -
Shhh...Keep it in the Closet!?
southerngirl24 replied to aprilapple's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The same thing happened when I went for my labs. The sista drawing the blood just shook her head and said " too many folks having this surgery":mad: I told her everyone was an adult and could make their own choices. Needless to say she and I said nothing else to each other. That just made me so angry! Mind your business! This is a hard enough choice to make without everyone's two cents. -
Desk Jobs..How long will you need off work
southerngirl24 replied to honey38635's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had this conversation with my husband about five minutes ago. I work customer service and I am going to use short term for one week off. I work 10 hours four days a week. I have thursdays off. So I am hoping to schedule my surgery for a thursday and start short term from that friday to the next and it will come out to about 11 days total before I have to go back to work.
