    July 2021 Surgery People!

Hi Bluebonnet i have actually been cooking my partner and sons dinners for the past 3 days, I find it strangely therapeutic, because although it looks and smells amazing and I would love to eat it, because I’m not hungry it’s not bothering me as much. If am feeling too tired to cook they will take over. 🙂

Hey I feel the exact same! I’m still on full liquid and even just a few sips of a protein shake I get this full feeling with a tight knot behind my chest bone!! Very annoying. I guess it’s just the process while we get used to our new stomachs. But your not alone… xx

Hi Nikki i had mine done in the U.K. with Ramsay Health care at my local private hospital with Mr Sutton. I paid £10,400. With life time after care support. 2 years dietician, 2 years psychologist support. i did a lot of research before choosing this consultant. i ‘interviewed’ three consultants from different clinics around the U.K. I chose Mr Sutton based on reviews (if you Google him you will see his history) and also I had used the local private hospital before and really liked it so it made sense. They offer a financial package, however I found a loan from my bank was lower interest and easier payments to manage. I am one week post op and I have no complaints at all with how everything went. I have my bariatric nurses number and has contacted her a few times 24hours a day and she’s extremely helpful and lovely. Everything is included in the price, all meds, follow ups etc. I would just say do you homework. Read up about the consultant and even have a free consultation with them and talk with them. Like I did. It’s the best way good luck in your search! ❤️

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Just an update on how I am feeling now! Finally the vomiting has stopped! I am now able to hold down water and the oral meds! I do however need to learn when my pouch is full as I have had the dreaded ‘foamies’ a few times. I think most the wind/gas has now gone and just pain around incisions and tender tummy. Due to some complications with my stomach and additional swellings I am not allowed protein shakes until Saturday, but can have protein water now. So feeling quite tired. I did have moments of doubt yesterday, but feel much better today. 😊👍🏻

So had my surgery yesterday! Initially everything was ok! However I just can’t stop vomiting! It’s horrible. Everytime I stand or sit up I vomit, everytime I take a sip of water I vomit. Even when I take liquid meds I vomit.. so I’m feeling very sorry for myself 😩 has anyone else experienced this? Thanks em x

I agree! The pre op diet is so incredibly important! You need to shrink that liver to avoid the surgeon: 1. Cancelling your surgery 2. Going ahead but at more risk of liver damage I’ve never stuck to diets (that’s why we are all here right?) but the pre op diet to me was a life or death situation. Well that’s at least how I sold it to myself. My dietician supplied me a list of foods I can eat, and not to stray from that list. I did read stuff online but I took her advice as bible since my surgeon chose her to be in his team. I will be honest and say I did eat Lamb twice (not on the list) but they were 1 mouthful and the lean part with no fat. I just seen it as protein. I never once strayed from the path, not one bite here or one sneaky bite there. Even after a huge buffet at work arrived I stuck to plain salad and fruit! (That’s not like me normally!) im 12 lbs down, over a 10 day pre op and today is my surgery day!!! ive also now shown mental strength which I will need post op for my 4 weeks liquid diet. good luck everyone but please please follow the rules. It’s there for a reason! em ❤️

Same here! Just barely 36 BMI. Perhaps there was a group approval, maybe I missed that part lol I booked a date with the consultant on the first appointment. fingers crossed for you that you get your approval! 🤞🏻 yes I read so much and watched so my videos about it and I just felt it was the right time. I have taken two days holiday officially from work (day of surgery and following day) but then ‘working from home’ for a week. I was keen not to have too much time off so I can get moving, I work in an office so it’s pretty laid back. I guess driving is my main concern with feeling lethargic etc I’ve always taken a daily multi vitamin (centrum gummies) although advised to stop a week prior to surgery. I think I have to start them again after but I will checK with the nurse when I’m there. I have been advised to buy some Baricol for the B12 supplement. which I will probably do. I have stocked up on protein shakes from My protein and also they do some cool protein waters as well. I have some broths, oxo, ice lollies and jelly stocked up as well. Not sure how it will go!! you sound like your researching well, this forum is great for hints and tips as well. I’ve learnt a lot!! 🙂

Hey Squidgy! I feel like the time between first phone call to it being all booked in was quite quick for me. I had my consultation and the consultant agreed at the time he was happy to proceed. I then had a call with the dietician and psychiatrist within a few weeks and a letter to confirm a few days later. I was nervous because I'm at the lower end of the ‘high BMI’ scale so was scared they might not think I was big enough. However they understood I was there to prevent health issues and knew if I didn’t do something now it would only get worse. I chose the low cal low carb diet, so I do a protein shake for breakfast, I have a lunch and dinner off the diet plan given and have 3 50cal snacks a day. I’ve found it fairly easy, I’ve only had 1 day I really struggled with nausea. the team at Ramsay have been brilliant, Especially at the woodlands where I am attending. I’ve told my family, most were really supportive, strangely the people who I thought would be understanding did not understand why I was doing it. Which made me sad. But I guess it’s either just worry or jealousy! Who knows. 🤷🏻‍♀️ my work colleagues and boss were super understanding which was nice given the time I would be having off work and allowing me to continue to work from home when needed. I would say it’s completely up to you if you tell people and how comfortable you are with that. Remember it’s your life and your body and your doing what you feel is right for you. Others opinions are not relevant. I wish you all the best, and will keep you posted. I have my final bloods and covid swab today so I’m starting to feel a little nervous and excited about my new life. Em x

    July 2021 Surgery People!

I’m glad I am not the only one feeling paranoid! I have stuck to a high protein low carb diet for nearly 10 days now and have lost 10lb. however, I did have 10g more mash than I should have, and also I had lamb twice (which isn’t really lean meat) so I am panicking. Although I ate super small portions as mention on the diet guide I’m hoping it will be ok. 😬 2 more days to go.

Congratulations! 🥳 Glad it went so well. You sound really positive! How did you find the ‘air’ that they pump into you? I’ve heard it’s the worst part when you wake? How quickly did they make you stand and walk. sorry, 4 days until my sleeve and I have so many random questions!!

    July 2021 Surgery People!

All of these tips and hints are really useful! Thank you everyone! I too did worry about surgery bag for hospital. But I’ve chosen a very large oversized night dress to wear for after surgery. Baggy pjs and baggy tshirt to travel home, I was planning on going bra-less for comfort. I too have all my shakes, Protein waters, Broth, ice lollies and jelly ready. also doing a deep clean of the house to keep me busy during pre op diet which is going ok so far. How much weight did everyone loose on average pre op? I lost about 7lbs in the first two days. But maintaining now, I hope it’s enough. good luck to everyone due in the next few days and I wish you all the best for the crew that have just comE out of surgery. we got this! 💪🏻

Hi Shrink and Grow! yes had a phone call with her a few weeks back and have a huge diet guide. She’s advised a mixture of protein shake, along with a guide of food, making sure I only pick food off a list they gave me. She also advised not to rely on protein shakes now as they might get boring for post op. I think I’m going to have protein shake breakfast, then pick some lunch and dinner within the list. I’m a serial snacker in the evenings. So I need to find something to keep me occupied! Cleaning sounds like a good idea!! I’m so nervous but excited at the same time! I’ve never had surgery at all! So I have no idea what to expect. I’ve been told the gas and bloat after is the worst part 🥴 did you do anything to help with this? Em x

Hi everyone! Nice to see a bunch of us brits on here! I have my sleeve surgery in 13 days! And 3 days until I start my pre op diet. I’m dreading the pre op diet more than anything! I don’t want to feel hungry! Any tips? Has anyone here had the surgery with Ramsay Healthcare? They seem to be pretty good so far. Picked them after vetting some of the others (Tonic etc) it’s exciting but nerve racking! good luck to everyone, reading some stories it’s helped me understand a little more em x
