May Surgeries - check in!
BypassedSophie replied to ChunkyCali's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Arcadia! My surgery is Monday! I am also excited and nervous—but I am ready! I have a hard time with protein shakes, too. I normally like them when I can mix them with almond milk and fruit, but on the liquid, pre-op diet, I can’t have fruit. I love Fairlife Core Protein —26 grams of protein and tastes like chocolate milk to me—it is the best I have found. I only drink one a day though because the sugar content is a little higher than Premier Protein. I have been keeping up with my weight-loss during the pre-op diet, and I am down 15 lbs. Let me know how your surgery goes! -
I am SO disappointed in myself. Self-sabotage post-op
BypassedSophie replied to MoominMan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Of course there is time to turn it around. Can you make an appointment with tour dietician and get a plan to get back on track? Hopefully, there are more than 3 healthy things you can eat—if there are more and you just need help cooking them—maybe ask the forum for some recipes? Don’t beat yourself up—tomorrow is a new day—make a plan and start anew! -
Surgery yesterday- my experience

Thank you for sharing—my surgery is Monday, and I am having pre-surgery bad dreams! Your post is encouraging me that all will be okay! -
I lost both my mom and my sister to breast cancer. I had a preventative mastectomy and hysterectomy when I was 38 and was thrown into menopause. I gained 40 lbs within months. Then I went to work on my PhD and over the course of graduate school, I gained another 40 lbs. I tried every diet imaginable for 5 years—I would lose 20 lbs, only to gain 30 back. I used every excuse imaginable—hormones, stress, etc. Last fall, I had a blood clot scare, and my BP was 200/110–I was close to having a stoke. My doctor told me that it was all weight related. Enough was enough! I have 3 grown and amazing adult children that May (hopefully) have future grandchildren. I want to watch them grow and be their active and fun Grandmother. I want to be active and fit for as long as I can. My grandmother lived to be 98—Still living on her own and walking to the grocery store. I want to be like her—-healthy and active—still kicking at 98! 😉

May Surgeries - check in!

I am day 11 of pre-op liquid diet, and I have the same thoughts! My husband is taking next week off to take care of me after my surgery on Monday. He called and said, “Today is my Friday, and then I get 12 days with you!” My first response was, “Yay—let’s go out to dinner and celebrate!” Then I was like... 0h, I forgot broth for dinner! 😔 I think it will take a awhile for us to stop thinking of food as a reward. Thank you for sharing! -

The Sleeve vs Bypass?
BypassedSophie replied to Michele 2021's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was in the same predicament as you—need to lose around 70lbs and wanted the sleeve. My GERD is horrendous and causing scar tissue in my esophagus, so surgeon highly recommended bypass. My surgery is Monday, and I am excited to read that people who had bypass, do not have GERD! Thank you! ❤️ -
Liver diet pre-op
BypassedSophie replied to Mary soza's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do mine for 14 days, and I am on Day 10. I honestly can’t imagine doing this longer. I have lost 15lbs—so it works if you stick to it! Good Luck! -
I am protein shake, bariatric soups, and sugar-free liquids only. I am on day 10 of the pre-op diet, and I agree, the protein shakes are so sweet. I can only handle 2 a day. I add unflavored protein powder (GenPro) to my soups to get enough protein. Good Luck with your surgery—I am the day before, so I will be thinking of you from my hospital room!

May Surgeries - check in!

My bypass surgery is scheduled for this Monday (May 3rd). I am on Day 10 of my pre-op liquid diet. The first 3 days are the hardest—I had body aches, hunger, weakness, and fatigue. Now, I don’t really notice being hungry, and I have more energy than I did last week. I have lost 15 lbs! I bought the bariatric soups from my surgeon’s office, and I find mixing them with flavorless protein powder and broth make them better—I also added a little black pepper and garlic seasoning. My best advice is to keep busy and keep drinking water and sugar-free Gatorade to help! My motivation for getting through these two weeks is constantly reading about what happens when you don’t follow the diet. I don’t want my surgery cancelled or my health at risk, so I drink the soup, the protein shakes, and the sugar-free liquids and count the days until Monday! I am both nervous and excited. Anyone having a bypass? Most of the people I know had the sleeve, but I have severe GERD so my surgeon recommended bypass!
