Nutritionist was NO help at all
MistySkye replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Have you tried milk like Fairlife? Lactose Free and high in protein. It was on the list provided by my nutritionist for protein supplements. My nutritionist is same in that all fluids count. I use an app called Waterlama. Makes it more fun to track my fluid intake (and easy with Apple Watch app & widget. It counts fluid, but will for example only count a protein shake as 80% hydration, coffee as 60%. So you still get credit, just not full credit. To prevent constipation I was instructed to use Benefiber. -
Walking after Surgery
MistySkye replied to Tinman0034's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
…I walked 5 miles 13 days post-op. -
14 days, I would definitely get that checked out! I went 3 days, and thought I was going to die 🤪 That was in my first week post-op. Since then I have been taking 2 tsp Benefibre twice a day and it’s kept things normal.
-
I consider the Bariatric Advantage chews a treat, they are that good. I have Chocolate, Caramel & Orange.
-
Please tell me there are others with no food issues, or am I the odd one out on that 😂 I have stuck to my programs plan, even following loosely their sample menu. I eat soft foods for B/L/D, my morning snack now is a soft food (cheese), my afternoon snack a protein shake. If I have hit over 90g protein, I skip a shake in the evening. I have had no issues eating food. I think my tastes have changed a bit, but not dramatically. I have not ate anything off program. Pre-surgery I liked the Caramel Premier Protein, post-op, it’s too sweet. But I still love the chocolate. I aim for at least 5 cups of just water. Trying to up that to 8.
-
I hit 100g off protein today 😯 Still under 800 calories.. I am usually around 80-90g. Guess I don’t need to have protein drink later 😂 Dinner I managed to eat 3oz cod fish …and 3 whole nickel size slices of carrot. I was full! 3 days in, I’m enjoying this soft food stage. It is still weird how you can become full on so little.
-
Give it a couple weeks @sheslittletex I know had all kinds of weird things going on that I couldn’t quite describe. I think it went back to being gas pain from the surgery or just general gas bubbles (Gas-X helped) I also had what I think were hunger pains. It’s all fine now. My surgeon puts patients on a PPI for two months.

I’m just shy of 4 weeks out, I grabbed a cheese stick for morning snack - but forgot to bring water🤦♀️ by the time I got home it was lunch time, so I went about 3 1/2 hours without fluids. Going to try and avoid doing that again.
-
I’m in Canada so I can’t get the Cafe Latte flavour 😭 Once the border opens (and doesn’t require Covid Tests both ways) I plan to do a shopping trip.
-
I start soft tomorrow too 😁 No crackers on my program, but I have heard of that with other programs (ie to add to soup) I have 3 weeks of soft foods. I can almost get 4oz in per meal, sometimes only 3 (depends what I’m eating) Between meals, water, water, water! I can’t have caffeine 😭 So, after breakfast (…and the requisite 30 mins) I have a decaf vanilla hazelnut coffee with high protein milk & 1/3 -1/2 Premier Protein shake & Benefibre.
-
I usually nap everyday, but I don’t feel week or dizzy. Definitely contact your surgeon. I walked 5 miles today, so in that respect I have energy…
-
I took 4 weeks only because I have plenty of sick time that I never use. I would have been fine after two weeks, but it was nice having the extra time to get into the rhythm with vitamins, protein, water. I’m going to miss my naps when I return to work next week.

So close to hitting 20lbs down. At 3 weeks post-op I’m down 19.6 from my weight prior to the 2 days clear fluids before surgery. (I don’t know my weight on day of surgery as they did not weigh me) I’m not a higher BMI (36.3 pre-surgery) so a little shocking to me that I have lost so much in the first month. I have 100% met (exceeded) my protein & fluid goals. Protein Avg is 88g. So, the question now is when will the infamous stall hit…
-
Baritastic. I have found it pretty easy to use in the early stages. Plus it has timers & reminders.
-
I have been vegetarian (technically pescatarian as I eat canned tuna sometimes) for 12 years. Now post-op and seriously thinking of giving up on being a vegetarian. I don’t want to have to be reliant on protein shakes & processed proteins, and I’m not a fan of Tofu 🤪 So, I’m going to start with Chicken (Poultry) and see how it goes. (I actually became vegetarian as I had issues eating meat - it would get “stuck”…but it’s been so long, maybe my body has changed) I love to travel - and if can eat basic proteins it will be much simpler.

No Pre Op Diet Ordered?
MistySkye replied to ucmgrad2001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was BMI 36 and only had to do the 2 days clear fluids before Surgery. -
I had a sore throat after surgery, then ended up with a sore top palate of my mouth 🤦♀️ I had no idea what was going on. I was going to ask the surgeon, but then it cleared up after a couple days. I have not deviated much from Premier Protein. It’s just easy. That was the first thing I had on day 1 of Puree, and day 2. Today, I went with boiled egg.
-
I started Puree today. No issues eating. I stuck to the recommended portions. Dinner, I only ate about 2/3 off what was in my bowl - I of course chose the Ricotta Bake. (Breakfast 1 scrambled egg, 1/8 cup oatmeal - I was full after that, Lunch 2 oz Tuna) Augmented by 2 Premier Proteins. (Assuming I get thru the second one later tonight). I’m 17 days post op. Start soft next Thursday for 3 weeks. I used the Baritastic timers for drinking before/after.

Pre-surgery I was having knee pain in one leg, ankle pain in the other. Shin pain in both. After surgery - the pain was gone. It was only in the last 10 lbs that I gained that I started having leg issues. So, dropping that so quick was the contributing factor. My mom is overweight and needs double knee replacement- I did not want to get to this point in my life. So I made the change. (I have tried to convince her that her weight is contributing to her issues, but she won’t make a change to her eating)

Is 16 the magic number? 😂 I am two weeks post-op today and down 16. Most of that was the first week. My surgeon gave the lecture on it doesn’t happen overnight. You will have stalls. It’s a 12-18 month process.
-
No calorie guidelines here either. Just 60g min protein + 6-8 cups fluids. I’m 13 days post op. Avg calories has been 568, Protein 86g. I easily get over 64oz per day in fluids. (Today alone I’m at 100 oz including water, protein shakes, soup, jello)
-
I am so looking forward to purée. 3 more days of full fluids to go. Dinner is currently half a premier protein & tomato soup.

Anybody not working out??
MistySkye replied to adventuremomof4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m 13 days post-vsg and did a 6 mile walk yesterday. Pre-surgery I was getting pain in my calves just going short distances. It was so nice to be able to walk without issue again. I was very sedentary. In October I got an Apple Watch. I set the excercise goal at 10 minutes. Hardly closed the rings in the first couple months. Then, I decided each month to add on 5 minutes and just do “something”. I have closed the rings every day since mid-January. (I do tweak the goals at times - like Surgery day) I was at 35 minutes per day pre-surgery. I did walking or Fitness+ workouts. Post-surgery, I have just been walking. My speed is finally back up to a “brisk” walk level. It was slow going in the beginning. Once I’m given clearance, I plan to resume strength workouts. Exercise wasn’t the issue for me - it was the eating. Hence, the surgery. -
I would love to hear how it goes. I’m going in September. I’ll be almost 4 months post-VSG then. Will definitely be a different experience from my previous trips. (…although I have always aimed to share things!)

I'll learn about the next stages for my program tomorrow. I'm still on Full Fluids, and my calories are on average around 600. (Checked Bariastic, since surgery my avg is 511; but that would be due to some lower days intitally) I know they told me just focus on protein & fluid intake. 60 minimum, but aim for 100 if you can. (My avg is 78, this week has been over 90). I'm down 15LB from the start of liquid diet 2 days before surgery. Since I am lower BMI, that is already 20% of my EBW.
