  1. I had that happen where I dropped some weight once I made the call…and then my surgery got delayed a month due to Covid surge cancelling surgeries and I ended up 4lbs over the weight I was when I originally called 🤪

    May Surgeries - check in!

I set an initial weight of 180 - as going into this I said I wanted to lose at least 60lbs. (The goal would be 65 from my starting weight) Ultimately though, I would love to get to 160-165. Down 36.6 thus far. I’m on week 10 post-op.

    No coffee, seriously

My dietician said to wean off caffeine before Surgery, so you don’t feel even worse afterwards. So I gradually reduced and was fine. My program is no caffeine for 3 months. I’m on week 11. I have been fine with just decaf, so I plan to not reintroduce it until I actually need the caffeine hit.

    It happened- I got canceled

I had my surgery in Toronto, Ontario. They canceled all non-emergent surgeries for almost a months in the entire province during the last Covid wave.
  5. I didn’t have soft foods until week 4. I was 2 weeks “full” liquids, 1 week puree. Then soft.. even then my plan said if issues, go back to Full Fluids, so perhaps try that?

    4 days post op

I watch cooking shows now and I’m like oh my gosh I could never eat that 😂 👍 I like to look at it, but the thought of actually eating it holds no appeal. It is so weird.

    It happened- I got canceled

Ugh, cancellations suck. I was supposed to be May 3, but found out 10 days before that it was canceled due to Covid surge. I had my surgery 4 weeks later.
  8. Yup. I had the Gastric Sleeve, my surgery was at 11 am. I was released by 7:30 pm. (Had follow up with surgeon next day in his clinic) If my surgery had been in the afternoon I would have stayed overnight.
  9. My mom was my driver. She dropped me off and picked me up. That was all that was allowed. I had my phone, so I was able to keep in contact. It wasn’t that bad. Nurses were super nice where I went. In my case I was released same day.

How long will I be off of work?

I took 4 weeks ....because I could (paid sick time). Could I have returned to work after a week, sure. (WFH due to Covid, desk job) but those early days its just a full time job to get fluids in. I'm thankful I had that month to get into a routine. Plus, not dealing with work stress helped in the healing process.
  11. Thanks @Allie Still …I really hope it fades with time. I’ll post in September with an update. I’m staying within my calorie target - so the hunger is not leading to eating more. I average 80-90g protein per day. When I spoke to my nurse at my 6 week she said it should go away over time.

    Pantoprazole, how?

It’s tiny. I just finished my course of it two days ago! No more waking up at 7 am to take it, yay. (I was on it for 2 months)
  13. Mine was due to hit day of surgery, I wore knix leak-proof underwear - they let me keep it on. It didn’t end up hitting until the next day, at least I was already on pain meds 🤪

Do you try to finish it later or…

I tend to toss in the compost. Part of it is to teach myself I don’t have to clear my plate. I eat till I feel full and stop. I don’t keep trying, I don’t continue it later. I would say around 5-10% of what I track in Baritastic I don’t actually consume. Sometimes I adjust my numbers, usually I just leave it. I figure that margin of error offsets any measurements that may be off.

    3 days post op

I think a lot of that feeling of bloating is from the gas and inflammation 😛 I don’t miss that first week. You pretty much spend all day just alternating protein and water to get in your fluids. Day 6 was the worst for me. It took a lot of effort to get in liquids that day. Things improved afterwards. i don’t think it’s possible to drink too much - even two months out, I really have to make an effort to get in 64oz minimum per day.

    Scared to death!

I get “hungry” …if I haven’t ate for more than 2 hours. But I don’t get cravings. That’s the big difference for me from before Surgery. I live with 2 other people, so there is food in the house that would normally be a craving for me pre-surgery, and I don’t even think about it and haven’t touched it.

    May Surgeries - check in!

It’s my 2 month surgiversary. Down 33.6lbs CW 211.4 (SW 245; BMI 36.3). Stalled out most of this week, but when I looked at last month I noticed it happened then to…the culprit, my period 🤪 I will still have a loss this week, because I was down .6 today. (I use Mondays as my weekly weigh-in for calculation purposes, since my surgery was on a Monday) Restriction still going strong …one of these days I’ll actually be able to eat all of my breakfast (1 egg, 1 egg white, 1oz cheese) I get hungry if it’s been more than 2 hours since I last ate. Today is my first day not taking a PPI…so hoping no side effects from stopping that.

    Salads

I was allowed after the 6 week mark, not really a salad person. Had shredded lettuce on chicken fajitas (just chicken with fajita seasoning) last week and had no issues. In general I have not ate anything thus far that has disagreed with me.

    Hospital stay questions

I had VSG, no overnight stay. But I just brought a backpack with a few things. I wore comfy/loose PJ/Lounge type top & bottoms. For surgery, I had to remove everything, I was able to keep on my own underwear thankfully. Bra had to be removed. They gave me a gown, robe, slippers. A few hours after surgery they let me get dressed. …I pretty much didn’t wear a bra for over a week afterwards unless necessary due to the swelling - it put pressure on my stomach, and was really unbearable. ..and I’m normally always wearing a bra with no issues. ,

    Am I drinking too much!?

I had no issues drinking fluids from Day 0. A few hours after surgery, I was drinking 1 oz every 5 minutes easy. (now getting myself to remember to take a drink..whole different story) As has been said, it pretty much goes right through you.
  21. If you have an iPhone it has Medical ID on it where you can record medical alert information that will display on your phone in case of emergency.

    Driver's License

My DL expires in April next year, hopefully I can give them a lower weight 😂 I actually think the weight reflects what I was 9 years ago (180..I had done a WL program where I got down to 167…then went back up over the years…pre-surgery I was at 245. My actual *highest* is 270; 20 years ago. …so my goal is to be my drivers license weight in 2 months 🤣🤣

What is your 1st major milestone?

I hit 50% of the way to my initial goal today. Still a little in disbelief at how the weight just keeps steadily going down. I’m 8 weeks out. My initial goal is 180 (65lbs).
  24. I was allowed watered down no sugar added fruit juice during clear liquids pre&post op.
  25. No. On Full Liquids you do not have to wait.
