I just spent 2 weeks at Walt Disney World, go home tomorrow. I’m only 4 months out, so the restriction definitely kept things in check. But I did try various things while still focusing on protein. Some foods “sit” heavy, but I did not have any reactions overall to the different foods. I’m sure the scale will show an increase Monday, water weight due to eating carbs & the humidity. But, I’m hoping for a drop the following week because I did a tonne of walking that more than counteracted the food I ate. (I still tracked best I could - mainly to keep on top of protein intake)

Im afraid i picked the wrong doctor
MistySkye replied to alandk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
A lot could be due to starting BMI. I only had to do 2 days clear fluids, but I do know my surgeon has patients that have to do Optifast before surgery for 2 weeks or more. So, it really depends on the patient. I had no swimming/hot tub. I couldn’t even shower for 72 hours. -
I just got a mini food chopper, it got a tonne of use during puree stage. (Still use today for Tuna Salad and such) Like this, it was cheap. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-1-5-Cup-One-Touch-Pulse-Stainless-Steel-Blade-Mini-Food-Chopper/565452233

skin spots/ itchiness after sleeve
MistySkye replied to kim0221's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have Psoriasis, and I think it exacerbated with the rapid weight loss. I’m just one giant itch with spots all over 🤪 I have been upping my light therapy and that seems to be clearing it - I don’t have Vitamin D issues (due to the light therapy) my dietician was like that’s one of the highest we have seen🤣 My Ferritin was low pre-surgery, it’s higher than it was due to consistently taking my vitamins. -
Even 3 1/2 months out All week I was going up and down a half pound - I thought maybe I hit my first stall; then I dropped 2 pounds this weekend, my weigh in day for tracking is Monday's - so I was still down 2 on what I thought was a lousy week.
-
3 1/2 months out - I'm still have 4 tsp of benefibre a day! (I ran out and did not take for 2 days - I learned I need it!) At 6.5 weeks I was allowed "regular" foods. I have not had issue with any vegetable I have ate. Probably the first thing I had - but during the soft food stage at 3 1/2 weeks was pickles.

How much liquids is actually enough?
MistySkye replied to Hiccup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try different drinks, different temps. I can drink decaf coffee early, I struggle with water. plus - ALL fluids count. Protein shakes, etc. -
I crossed into onderland yesterday. I am 14 weeks post-op tomorrow. Down 45.2. Getting all my protein and water. No food issues. About 3-4oz of protein and I’m full. Makes it hard to incorporate veggies, but I try. 3 weeks until I go on vacation for 2 weeks. That will be the real test…

Potty talk - probably TMI for most people
MistySkye replied to ColieCallwell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
😆 Day 2 of pre-op liquid diet - everything came out of me, I mean everything…and I didn’t always make it to the toilet 😜 What sucked is I had to go on an airplane, so thankful that it stopped literally right before heading to the airport. But I was so scared that whole day that it was going to happen again. -
I survived my first family event today. The nice thing about Covid is I haven't had to worry about gatherings. But today was a special birthday for a relative so we had a BBQ with about 20 people. I was asked to bring an Angel Food Cake, so I made that....and I didn't eat the part I cut off like I normally would. I had one small bite, the rest went in the compost. I'm only 3 months out. Not everyone there knows I had the surgery, but no one commented about the fact that all I ate was a chicken burger (that I brought) and some pickles. I used a dessert sized plate like I do at home. Timed my bites, and as expected could not eat it all. I didn't have any of the other food there. There was no desire, I was full. A little later I had dessert. I was still "full", so just had a small bite of cheesecake (no crust or topping) and a sliver of the angel food cake with 3 fresh strawberries that I brought for myself. There is no way I could have ate more than that.

If you can tolerate it, the more the better. I can easily drink 12 oz in 30 minutes if it's warm. I struggle with the timing, sometimes I just have no desire to drink for 1-2 his after eating.

Any 45+ year old women on here with gastric bypass experience?
MistySkye replied to timmytommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I got VSG ..and ya, no real cravings, at least compared to before surgery. It’s weird. I’m 48, and down just over 40 lbs in 3 months. It has been steady, no real stalls (at least when you compare week to week)....and going into this I thought for sure my age was going to work against me and I wasn't going to lose. I have not hit menopause yet. -
My before and after.
MistySkye replied to Officially Not Fatty Matty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I shared this with my brother. Learned today he finally went for a consult. He had started thinking about it before I had the surgery (I didn't know this until after I told him I had the surgery) Your story was one I thought he could relate to - similar age, height, and he also lives in Texas currently 🙂 He's going thru insurance. -
700-900 per day.

I have had no issues getting enough protein and I'm usually 90-100. I always start with 1 egg, 1 egg white, 1 oz cheese for breakfast. Morning snack almost always a cheese stick and 1/2 tbsp peanut butter. Lunch - usually 3-4 Turkey Deli Slices with some mayo and a cheese stick (or slice of cheese). Afternoon snack - varies sometimes 1/2-1 protein bar (i.e. Built Bar), or turkey pepperoni stick, or greek yogurt. Dinner chicken or turkey. In addition, I have either Fairlife Milk or Premier Protein in my decaf coffee twice a day. (I put Inulin Fibre in my coffee too) ...there is vegetables and fruit too! I just did not list them Fluids certainly the harder struggle for me. At least I get 16 oz X2 w/ the coffee, but water can be a problem. I aim for 6 cups a day, don't always meet it. BTW, I'm pretty sure I have a cheese stick with peanut butter addiction. I have seriously had that everyday since I was allowed Peanut Butter LOL

Week 12 and I dropped 4lbs - the most I have in a single week since the initial week 😮 Only 2.8 away from onderland, and today my BMI is 30 - so this better be the last time I'm in the Obese category! I don't want to go here again. I would like to reach 190 by the time I go on go on vacation at the end of September. This week's loss gives me hope that I can reach it.

I’m a week shy of 3 months and I’m in the 800-900 calorie range and I’m losing consistently. My protein is around 100, Total Carbs under 50, Net Carbs usually 30 or less. Sugar under 20. Protein is the focus, I don't always manage to eat vegetables. (I'm trying, but it might only be like 1 or 2 broccoli florets.)

Ugh. I’m sorry @AM_is_losing. You got about same notice as me when mine was canceled. My surgery ended up being 4 weeks after the originally scheduled date.
-
I got offered a donut - 5 days after surgery. I told the person are you nuts and don’t ever do it again. (It was a relative) Fortunately I’m fine being around food. It’s not a trigger. I stick to my plan.

@ShoppGirl I take 2 per day. I was only on the more expensive chewable for 45 days, then switched to the cheaper capsule.

What do I need to do/buy to prepare?
MistySkye replied to *Paula*'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For non-disposable I love the Oxo-Tot Baby Blocks 2 oz and 4oz containers. Even 2 1/2 months out, I’m still at the 4 oz stage. -
I’m on Bariatric Advantage, for the dose I need to take, the multi is only $23.75 USD for 45 days. The chewable calcium is a bit pricey, but the non-chewable isn’t much.

I’m 11 weeks and 850-900. Which is on target based on what my nutritionist provided. 300 is WAY too low. 60 grams of protein alone is 240 calories!! Edit to add I eat 3 “meals” and 3 “snacks” a day and I’m consistently losing.

MistySkye replied to *Paula*'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m going to throw in- don’t over buy! I bought protein powders I never used or hated after surgery. I have 2oz disposable containers, never used them. They gave me a number of medicine cups when I was discharged, just used those the first few days. I have electrolytes, never needed, I drank fluids fine. I got compression socks - didn’t need, just used the ones from surgery. Your tastes can change, so only get a few of something, because you might find you don’t want it after surgery. -
First 6 weeks I just did walking, and a couple of rides on excercise bike. At 6 weeks I was cleared for weights. I hate the gym, so I had invested in a treadmill, exercise bike and free weights. I do workouts at home using Apple Fitness+. I’m 11 weeks post-op. I normally do a brisk walk at least 30 minutes everyday (I have a dog, so he appreciates that) and I do a strength training workout at least twice a week (I need to work on increasing that) I’m sure it will change up once the weather is cooler.
