    OMG I?m Starving

AMEN...I cancelled my surgery last year, because the place I went to first was a GROUP center. I went to their REQUIRED first meeting, to learn about the surgeries, and find out all of the info. They wanted you to buy only THEIR shakes, meals, etc, upfront, you had to only use THEIR physical therapist, physch, nutritionist, lab, etc...that was NOT covered my insurance, so I was looking at $2,000 out of pocket... The whole thing was like an INFO-MERCIAL! Top that off with the Dr being more obese than I am! I have no regrets in NOT having my surgery done there! I found a much better place that my insurance covers and have really enjoyed working with the whole staff...and I used my Cardio, gyn, special surgeon, lab etc since I am 2 hrs away from the surgery center! Been a much better ordeal already!

    My stomach hates me!!

didn't any of your nutritionists tell you to eat yogurt on your pre-op diet?

    Which shakes are the best?

The carnation SF breakfast drinks is what was suggested to me as a diabetic. Then the whey protein for after surgery. To flavor it, you can use the crystal light, or SF jello powder! However after surgery you might not want to introduce splenda into your system, it will break down REAL sugar much better! So you can use regular jello and drink mixes!
  6. That is the question that has been going thru my mind for the last 2 years. I cancelled surgery last summer and I found a different Dr. this year and am slated for surgery on Sept. 4th.... talk about unsure! I am 48, weigh 230 right now, and stand 5'3". I am type II diabetic on insulin for the last 5 years due to problems with other meds. I know this weight is rapidly killing me, but if I have to eat right and exercise daily anyway, why do I need the lapband? Surgery does not scare me, I had 5 major surgeries between Dec. '06 and Aug '07! BUT again, those were surgeries I HAD to have, the lapband is something you choose to do. If I do not have time for the gym now, how am I going to have time for it after the banding? So many questions still unanswered and I am down to the wire here on the decision making! Thanks for letting vent! Jacquie

to band or not to band

Wesleygirl, Keep up the good work. My A1C's going into this are only 6.3....I used to do insulin 34 times a day, now I use Lantis only once a day! That was a huge change in my life right there! To be insulin and MED free is my main focus...to be med free for life, is the ultimate goal!

to band or not to band

May 22nd was my birthday! I have been really reading alot on here tonight that is helping me understand how the band helps when nothing else has! I once lost 110 pounds...walking, exercising, and eating right...but then got pregnant and it has been tough since then to lose anything...age, diabetes, yada-yada-yada... school comes early, so off to bed!

to band or not to band

:thumbup:Thanks for those replies. I stay within my portions for my diabetes, but since being on insulin I just can not lose more than 15 pounds ever, then come winter it all comes back! As soon as my veggie garden is done and the perennial bed all cut back for winter, I do not have much to do outside of the house. I am hoping now that I am not in school this year, I can work on ME, instead of getting a job! My goal used to be 100 pounds, Dr says 80 would be good! What exercise have you all found to be your best? I do have a Y here that offers water aerobics/water walking. I have a treadmill, and a free gym at our base as well! Wish I had more support at home, but have found I will be doing this 100% on my own! Thanks again for the understanding and advise.
  12. Hello everyone! I am Jacquie and I am new to LBT. I live in OK and I am set to have my banding done in Aug! Having set the date, let me assure you, does not mean I am definately having this done! I still have TONS of unanswered questions and anxieties about having this done! #1- I am on insulin...so I have concerns about insulin during the pre-op 10 day diet and of course after surgery! #2- I only have to lose 70 pounds max.....my Dr said that with the band I will have to excercise atleast 2 hours a day to lose regular and maintain the loss for LIFE.....so my question is, if I have to work out/walk/whatever for 2 hours a day for life with the band..couldn't I just do the excercising WITHOUT the band? #3- I maintain a strict 1,200 cal diet and count my carbs, fat, protiens, since I am on insulin and BP meds... I do walk 30 minutes and more daily. If I can do that without the band, do I really NEED the band? #4- I wanted the band so I could get off of unsulin and the BP meds...Dr said I would need to lose atleast 60 pounds to do that...soooooo my question again, is if I have to lose that much to get off the meds, and I only need to lose 60-70 pounds anyway..do I need the band? #5- I was told the RNY would be a faster way to get off the meds..but I also know the complications are greater... has anyone changed from a band to the RNY? #6- I have seen FAILURE from all options..I have seen people lose up to 100 pounds by eating/excercise and I have seen people banded and bypassed...and in all forms of weight loss I have seen the weight gain return in 2-5 years....My dr. says that failure with the band is 80% greater than with other WL options...so just what is it that makes people lose with the band and helps them keep it off? #7-the say the band is for LIFE..yet in doing alot of research reading, I see a VAST amount of removals in less than a year and even more within 2-3 years..... what predicts how long a band will stay in ? so many questions and thus far after attending 4 seminars, a dozen or more support group meetings, and reading for hours on the internet...I have NOT found any good answers! Thanks for any replies and info! Jacquie:thumbup:
