Frustrated - Canceled Surgery: Advice?
summerseeker replied to LookingForward22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have always gone through life believing in my gut. If it don't feel right then run away. Its always kept me safe. You did the right thing. These guys were too comfortable and complacent, thats when stuff goes wrong. I am sure the great people on your continent can tell you if you have to start at the beginning or if you can carry forward all your hard work . Fingers crossed. Good luck with what ever you decide to do -
Well done, just doesnt seem enough does it. When I /if I can, get to ONEderland, I want a Marching band and baton twirlers parading me up and down the high street. So in my head you have your marching boots on

Sleeve - Post-Op / Ideas-Tips-Chat-Support
summerseeker replied to CowboyKurt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Because of my issues with nausea and acid reflux I had to sleep sitting up for almost 3 weeks. I soon realised it made getting out of bed easier as I didnt have to haul myself out of bed, just scuttle on my bottom to the edge and drop my legs down. I never had a minutes pain or needed pain meds. I wonder if by default I helped my recovery? I also have a wonderful husband who let me get better in my own time and gave me so much encouragement. Still I doubted that it was the right choice, I had 6 weeks of miserable sickness and nausea, then tada, as if by magic, I can eat and drink and feel like a member of the human race again. Take your time to heal and recover x You will love your sleeve pretty soon x -
Every one who had to do a pre op diet sympathises with you. It sucks. After the 4th day it would have been easier to stick to the pre op diet, its such a shame you caved in. Surround yourself with low cal snacks and focus on why you are doing this. I had to do 3 weeks too and it just showed me how to break with my food addiction. There are a couple of people who got surgery refused in the back pages of the forum but lots of people who got away with it. Try and keep with the restricted program, it will be less stress for you in the long run. Good luck

VGS after many abdominal surgeries
summerseeker replied to Flagondry's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the most brutal Gallbladder surgery aged 17 in 1976. The surgeon cut me from the bottom of my breastbone to my pubic bone. What he was thinking is anyone's guess. In those days we questioned nothing and got on with it. I was really really nervous that my bariatric surgeon would not be able to do the surgery on me because of the adhesions. I know its small fry to your surgeries but he managed it. I researched many types of surgery in case he rejected me because of the complications. I know some new procedures are being tried, You can have a balloon in your tummy for 6 months that limits the amount you could eat. Another one was done via the mouth using the endoscopy method. They gathered the stomach into a small bag and tethered it there. Dont despair surgical advances are coming to help you, you deserve the break. Good luck -
Hello, I am just a week ahead of you and having much the same problems. Every time I try to eat or drink a new protein I am sick and nauseous for days. My team are worried I am loosing muscle mass as they say I have lost too much weight. I was told to eat 6 small meals. I can manage 4 tiny ones. I can eat tiny slivers of hard cheese, porridge, Melba toast, smooth pate, raspberries, Biltong, lollies, apple sauce, surimi sticks and drink a little milk. I am no where near any of my protein or water goals. I have managed all my meds and vitamins though, massive breakthrough. Lets just keep trying to do the right thing. Our teams will just have to be patient with us. I am very sure you will be a star student at the end of your journey.

I had bad days before the surgery, I just get up and do what I have to and sack the rest. I usually feel better with a little me time. Congratulations on your weight loss journey. You are nearly at your goal. You must be thrilled.

2 days until GB surgery. Helpful tips?
summerseeker replied to CowboyKurt's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wished I bought a recliner, I had to sleep sat up in bed for nearly 3 weeks. Every time I lay down I got reflux and that was nasty. I never had any pain or difficulty getting up and down. I was just in slow motion. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress -
Tomorrow I will be 7 weeks since surgery and am really behind you all. I haven't been able to get enough protein or water due to extreme nausea and vomiting. I can eat porridge, yogurt, raspberries, hard cheese, smooth pate, melba toast, boiled eggs and soups. In very small amounts. I am trying pasta, rice, meats and fish and shellfish, but no joy. My team say keep trying, it will happen soon. Medication is helping. Does anyone have any other food ideas I can try.

I feel like I have no familial support for my surgery.
summerseeker replied to itami o's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would say ok you win, I am going to do what you wish and cancel the surgery. Then keep quiet and get the surgery. You can deal with the rest when its a fait accompli. No one should use emotional blackmail -
Are you a member of the polar bear club?
summerseeker replied to AnotherGuy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have never been cold until I started the Pre op diet, I am frozen now and wear gloves in the house at times. The only time I warm up is when I am cooking or cleaning. I am looking forward to summer when I can at last sit in the sun and warm up instead of hiding, sweating indoors. I look forward to hearing from our more senior members on this matter. -
You will be fine, you are self pay. I was scared I would be too big, too old and have too many scars on my tummy. Everyone must be scared on their first consultation. I was put quickly at ease and able to ask questions. I was unsure which surgery I needed [ or which they would be able to do ] The surgeon explained them all and we came to the same conclusion, a sleeve. Dont be afraid something wont happen, I never will if you dont jump in with both feet.

6 weeks after bypass and have only lost 18 pounds still!
summerseeker replied to GiGi 1970's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Without your starting weights and surgery weights and what you are eating daily, its really hard to advice you. I would agree with LaoDaBeirut Why are you doing so much exercise ? You seem to be spinning out and panicking. I think you need to speak to your team. Take care of yourself and take the stress out of your recovery -
How long from consult to surgery?
summerseeker replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
£11,999 Its a package deal. No matter how much care you need, it wont cost more. I stayed 6 days instead of 1. Had loads more xrays and a CT scan. It includes 2 years follow ups with dietician. -
How long from consult to surgery?
summerseeker replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the UK and was told to expect 4-6 months but ended up more like 8 months. Covid has impacted on all surgery here, even private hospitals. -
It seems very odd that you are in pain at 7 weeks out. You should be healed. Did you have any additional surgery ? hernia ? Have you done anything too strenuous? I think you need to speak to a doctor asap . Try your own, 111 or go to the A and E. Sorry to be negative but you shouldnt be in agony

Week 5 Post Gastric Sleeve and Struggling
summerseeker replied to Jenn5120's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HaseenS I know its so hard, Keep going back a step when you cant go forward. I never feel hungry so its easy not to bother eating but I am so weak and wobbly I have to. I reached out to my dietitian and she said try crackers and soft cheese and breadsticks and soft cheese. Strained [ cream of] tinned soup. Tiny slivers of mature cheese. Yogurts and homemade milk shakes without sugar. Ice pops. My Calories are so low that I dont bother with low fat or fat free. I will sort that when I get onto real foods. -
Week 5 Post Gastric Sleeve and Struggling
summerseeker replied to Jenn5120's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am at 5 weeks too and am quite behind the rest of our group. I can not seem to progress to any soft foods. The only things I can eat are dry crackers, yogurt, and chicken soup [strained] I have never made it anywhere near my recommended water intake. Had very few of my vitamins. I start with nausea and vomiting it continues for days . I finally got a Doctor today after the Christmas break and he has prescribed a GERD tablets so I am hopeful. I am so weak and shaky and have no energy. My only consolation is I am loosing weight. ....... Protein - failed Water - failed Vitamins - failed Lets hope we get on course soon -

Got my surgery date! Suddenly scared...
summerseeker replied to greenwitch17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't think there is a person alive who wouldn't be worried about any surgery. You just have to man up as they say and once you get with the anaesthetists you will be ok. They are very used to nervous patients and will put you right. I had no pains at all not even gas pain but if I had, I would have been given the meds. I read these forums for months to get to know the good and the bad about this surgery and soaked up the all the advice everyone gave. Its all good stuff. Keep us posted and goodluck -
Best position To sleep after surgery?
summerseeker replied to Sarabelsha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to sleep fully sat up in bed for almost a month. I had no pain what so ever. Every time I tried to go lower, I had vomiting and foaming all through the night. It left me so dehydrated every morning. I wished I had a recliner chair. It feels like pure heaven now I can lie in my fav position. I hope it happens for you soon
