You had your surgery the day before me, congrats to both of us on our weight loss so far. At home why not keep your foods simple to start. These are the things that I am eating with a spoonful of veg here and there. Boiled egg, shrimp and a slice of avocado, a slice of ham wrapped around cheese, tuna salad, chilli con carne, coronation chicken, smoked salmon and cream cheese. Hope this helps

Anyone care to share their pureed/soft stage menus? What does your food intake look like?
summerseeker replied to idk4w's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just wanted to add to the other posts - instant oatmeal, apple sauce, homemade soups - blitzed and hummus and other dips like guacamole -
Is this hunger real or imagined?
summerseeker replied to idk4w's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the early weeks I had trouble with eating the proteins so had 5 tiny meals a day. I tried for 6 but never made it. At your stage I really didnt get many calories in, maybe about 300 to 350 a day . My dietician said just do your best and don't count calories. Every body has different instructions so just do the best you can within them -
Well I am finally catching up with the rest of my November sleeve buddies. I felt that I have been lagging behind for so long and wanting to be where you all are in your progress. I can finally eat my protein allotment and a tiny amount of vegetables. There is some joy in eating again, I have missed the vegetables and salad more than anything. I almost lived on chicken before my sleeve but its the only thing unacceptable to my new stomach now. I am looking forward to having more energy and va va vroom

To be honest there isn't much difference between pureed and soft. Its generally the same food that you have to chew a bit. Looking at pureed food made me not want to eat it, yuck. Soft food can be smashed with a fork too so its a win win.

At 8 weeks out, I went away with 6 friends with hubby to a All inclusive weeks holiday. I took loads of things to snack on in case of not being able to anything in the restaurant and didnt need much of it. Any way to the point, I drank a few slim tonics and then found Britvic Tomato juice. It came in a 200ml bottle and had 47 cals in it. I put lots of sauce in and pretended it was a bloody mary. It tasted deliciously healthy and full of goodness and a great change from blackcurrant and water .

When can I chug my water down my throat!!?? Help lol
summerseeker replied to PauleeB's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The dry mouth especially when you wake up is a awful sensation isnt it. So worse than waking full of a cold and having slept with your mouth open to breath because your nose is blocked. Just keep doing your best with the liquids and one day you will find its not a chore to drink anymore. Popsicles were my go to. I can do 3 gulps now at 12 weeks out. Happy drinking -
My husband does this after meals when he has had a bad night. He has Sleep Apnoea and type 2 diabetes

You need somewhere close to you as you will have many visits back and forth. I go back every month to be weighed and chat to the dietician. I get lots of advice on foods to try and when to take the next step etc. I went to a Spire Hospital near Leeds so its not useful to you but they are everywhere. I paid £11,000 for a 2 year package. I know they do 0% finance. Good luck and keep us posted

New Here! So Glad I found this group

Hiya and welcome. The pre op diet is a stinker isnt it. What do you need to do for 14 days ? Every doc has a different formula. The second week is easier than the first but you will be so happy when you get to your surgery date and the first process is over. My only advice is, be very kind to yourself, have plenty of time to heal and dont rush things. Good luck -
Oh I think that you will have a long wait for the NHS but it cant harm to ask can it. Due to Covid there is such a backlog of cancer and other urgent surgeries in my area that Bariatrics have been put on hold, It depends where you live in the country. I paid £11, 000 at Spire Hospitals for a 2 year package and am happy its done and I am getting into the swing of my new life

Sleeping on incisions
summerseeker replied to shriner37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like others I had to wait 3 weeks but mainly because of reflux. I had to sleep sitting up until the reflux settled. -
There are pages on this forum just devoted to Mexico. The ones that I read seem over the moon with their choices.

My dietician says these are slider foods. Cake, biscuits, sweets, ice cream, mashed potato. At 5 weeks I could eat tiny slivers of hard cheese, Things on tiny pieces of melba toast like egg mayo, tuna mayo, pate. Cream cheese with a crisp breadstick, Cauliflower cheese, instant porridge and homemade veg soup with cheese stirred in

At the moment speaking to the receptionist at our doctors is a rare treat so no I never got any bloods done before yesterday. Since last June. I have a phone consult with a doctor next week about my results of yesterdays blood tests. My BP is so good maybe I can come off some tablets. I expect they will schedule bloods and results before the jab in future.

Surgery on 2/25 - Liquid Diet on 2/20
summerseeker replied to Starting My New Life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 3 week veg diet and it was 3 weeks too long IMO but I gritted my teeth and got through it. It taught me some big lessons like I could exist with out takeaway. At 62 years old I expected the operation pain to be brutal but I had no pain and no painkillers. I could jump in and out of the hospital bed, which was a blessing as I had the worst tummy upset. My last veg meal was a curried concoction that would have caused it and I should have known better. I was told not to shower till the stitches came out, 3 weeks ! Eeuw thats nasty, so I wrapped my middle in Cling wrap and managed { I dont know what you call cling wrap in the US } I bought gummy vitamins, soluble calcium, soups, broths and low calorie popsicles and a few different kinds of protein drinks. Dont over buy anything your taste buds will change. If you have time on your hands read back pages of the forum, I did and found it so useful. Good luck and keep us posted on your recovery and ask away, there is always somebody on the forum at any time of the day -
Are you on anti nausea meds ? I have been told we may need them for a year. In the early weeks lots of us have buyers remorse a few weeks in and then as soon as we can begin eating more normally things improve. Being tearful is normal, we think we have ruined our life for a while. Hang in there, give yourself a big hug, we promise you that soon things will improve. I used to nibble on tiny slivers of cheese and these helped with the queasiness and it tasted heavenly. I had such a filthy taste in my mouth all the time. No amount of tooth brushing helped. Just do what you have to so you get through this healing stage

Maintaining Post Op Diet
summerseeker replied to lexx122's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally got to my water intake at about 9 weeks out. I am still struggling to eat enough to get to my protein total, I am about 45 -50grams a day. I have give up worrying about it. I will get there soon In the beginning eating took all my time and drinking was a real pain to fit in but as things mend and begin working it gets better. Good luck -
Hi Peonie We must be on the same UK recovery timeline. I had my first shot of B12 today and am scheduled for one every 3 months. I trust the NHS, they will check our blood tests and if it comes to that we dont need it anymore then they will stop it. Ask your surgeon to ring the GP Surgery and sort it out for you

So, Today is my last day of eating the way I do. Tomorrow, I start a 21 day pre op diet. Milk , non starchy veg and yoghurt. For my last evening meal I had braised oxtail with mashed potatoes and gravy. What did everyone else have ?
-
Do the best you can in between the two people. You cant please both people. The dietician will be less than pleased to be so put down by such a high and mighty surgeon. I bought myself a bariatric plate to remind myself of portion sizes. I cant even eat the meat portion yet never mind the veg and carbs. So I have 3 meals and 2 snacks, 1 is yogurt and 1 is home made veg soup made with milk. Just so I keep my gut moving. Just do your best. Let him sound off and condemn when you jokingly say you ate nothing but take out.

An ECG and some blood tests is all I had.

Stall or just a slow loser?
summerseeker replied to Livgreen___'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes as Hop scotch and Grady Cat have said Weigh once a week at the most. You will loose no matter what and looking at the scales and wanting to watch the fat disappear doesn't work. It only leads to annoyance and stress. In the little time you have had you have done amazing. Others will do better than you and some will loose slower. Its your journey, so have a little patience and time to get to the end -
I am almost 3 months out and struggle to eat anything resembling a meal because my stomach only allows tiny meals. I buy tiny pots of stuff from the supermarket. I got really fed up of the leftovers I had to throw away. For breakfast I might have a boiled egg or plain yogurt with home made apple sauce { frozen in a ice cube mould } or a passion fruit. Or a banana and peanut butter milkshake Lunch might be some kind of pate on 2 or 3 tiny melba toasts or some seafood in a sauce with steamed veg from a frozen packet. Or a tuna mayo salad, a small baked potato with cheese and a few baked beans, Dinner, chilli, chicken mince curry, Chinese minced chicken in lettuce cups, smoked salmon and scrambled egg, 1/2 Avocado with prawn mayo I try for 2 snacks a day. cream cheese with mini bread sticks, ham rolled with cream cheese, homemade soup made with milk and extra milk powder, mozzerella and tomato, jerky, chicken wings, however you have them, a sausage. Hope I have given you some ideas.
