A long post for a little reassurance
summerseeker replied to loli_lotus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to answer this because I want to help you and HUG you. I just don't have your answers because I am afraid to say the wrong thing and make you decide the wrong way. I know what my depression was like - I was alone in a sea of people and had to pretend everything was ok until the dam broke and then 10 years of Citalopram. I still have my bad days but I recognise them and take action. Having the surgery has done nothing for my depression except given me my legs back and that gives me more options to help myself. My surgery was done for every other reason except depression. Speak with a therapist who deals with these issues. Dont listen to people who are filling your head with their fears and jealousy. -
Starting over post 2 years
summerseeker replied to InvisibleEnvelope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 months out and only just got the hang of protein. My journey has been rocky. I use a food diary to help me account for everything. I am in the UK so am no help to you but many people will chip in later with US ones. Is My fitness Pal a US one ? There are many that are free and very good. You just need patience to get used to logging foods and drinks. So for example - A protein drink [ if you can stomach them ] about 25gms Protein yogurt 200mls = 25gms ! boiled egg = 5 or 6gms Full skimmed milk 18 fluid ounces = 18 gms 6 ounce chicken breast , baked without oil = 45gms 1 ounce hard cheese about 5 or 6gms My rules are - always eat protein first, veg second and then Carbs. I rarely get any veg or fruit [ today was 2 grapes, woohoo] I dream of when I can eat Noodles again........ Good luck with your continuing journey -
I ate myself to disability, I just got the news that I was diabetic on top of everything else I had. My moment had come, I decided pretty quickly that being so disabled, dieting again was not an option. Surgery it was. Now I am 90 pounds down and can walk again. I have my independence back

I'm struggling losing weight
summerseeker replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are in the third week stall. You will drop soon. -
Ask me this at month 2 and I would say maybe but..... Now at month 6 and 90lbs down, hahahahaha no. TBH that 90lbs down has had me smiling all week
-
TBH you are doing so well. 40lbs is a lot of weight to loose and you are on the right track. You should not change anything that your team has set for you. My dietician explained bariatric weight loss like a staircase. For every down step there is a flat step. If you track your food, { I use My Fat Secret UK} you know that you are in a calorie deficit. You can not fail. I am lucky if I manage 850 a day but I have had a difficult time since surgery. So am a little behind my peers. I once had a 5 week stall that had me worrying but the good people here put me right. Onwards and downwards.

Keep lots of money in your pockets, wear some really heavy chunky jewellery and wear thin socks so that you are shorter when you take your shoes off to be measured. Good luck -
Not tolerating intake well
summerseeker replied to samulls01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try warmer drinks. My stomach would not tolerate cold drinks and cramped in shock . I needed anti nausea medication to get on the top of things. Take care of yourself -
How long after gastric sleeve are you at risk of getting Dumping Syndrome ?
summerseeker replied to PM2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't be frightened of something that may or may not happen to you. That's no way to live a life. I have been able to drink coffee since I woke up in hospital. I drink it all day, every day. In the past months I have enjoyed Tomato juice, it tastes delicious. Even now and again with a drop of vodka in it. -
Man I am torn........
summerseeker replied to BuzzVSG's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Have you tried to go back to basics and begin again, your original surgery is still there. Just because you have gained some weight does not mean that it will not work again. You will have to go back to basics and do the Reset. I have read about it in this forum -

Dreaded hair loss - question
summerseeker replied to Crinkles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's great to here that your hair is growing again. Mine is in the middle of the loss cycle. There is so much falling onto my clothes. For the first time in my life I have short hair. I think I like it, my husband is less sure . My scalp is so itchy, does anyone know of any product that will help ? TIA -
You are very early in your recovery. Take it easy and try not to rush things. You will get to where you want to be soon enough. Your poor cut stomach needs to heal and your food is designed to pass through it quickly.

PreOp Diet Struggles
summerseeker replied to Darcell76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Darcell76 If you are on a liquid only diet that doesn't allow sugar free jelly and sugar free popsicles then its the most brutal one I have heard of. Ring your team and tell them you are struggling { anyone would } and ask if you can have any more food. I pray you can -
Social eating after gastric sleeve
summerseeker replied to TriStateSleever's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have eaten out twice now and both times with someone who knows I have had the surgery. The first time I dumped after a few hours and was unwell for a few day. I think my choice was greasy, I forgot to ask for dry cooking. The second time I couldn't have a pre look at the online menu and chose just a prawn starter. The prawns were really tough and I left it and sat chatting to my friends. I am going on Holiday in 4 weeks and really do not know what to tell the people that I am with. I have never told them. My micro portions will be noticed. They know me very well. I imagine I will have to say what's happened. I am struggling to eat more than 2 ounces of protein and no veg. Any advice welcome -
I was a long term smoker, I continuously stopped and started smoking so many times. I only managed it in the end by being in a hospital bed for 11 weeks. I never had chance to smoke. I figured that the nicotine was now out of my system. That was 12 years ago and I have never wanted to smoke again. I would never have stopped otherwise. My point is you will not get any judging from me. BUT - You need to stop now if you want this surgery. I believe some hospitals will not do the surgery if they detect it. You need to be as fit as you can for any surgery, Life is very unfair, just when you need it most your go to helpers are taken away from you. It will be a battle of wills for you. I hope you win. Good luck

6 weeks post op depressed
summerseeker replied to Kourtneybedwell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this explained to me when I crashed in a crying mess. It was a wonderful medical explanation but I have lost the post. The basics was, As our fat cells melt off us they expel the hormones that are inside then. Loosing weight we have all these extra hormones floating around. No wonder we feel like we have been mixed in a blender. It does pass quickly, keep going on, you are doing great -
Endoscopy aftermath

Sorry to hear this. I have never had one either but I dont imagine you should feel like this. You need to go to see a doctor who will know if its rough handling or needing antibiotics. Ring somebody. -
Liver shrinking diet UK
summerseeker replied to Lou30102015's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes its hell, I had 3 weeks of non carb veg and lots of milk. I hated the process but needed the outcome. The English surgeons don't tend to use protein shakes. There is plenty of protein in milk without the awful additives found in those drinks. It each to their own. I would contact your team and tell them you are struggling and ask if there is anything they can do to help. Let me know how you get on -
Its very unpleasant to have to go through this, its like you cant get on like everyone else. I didn't have a stricture but I did suffer this for 3 months. I never met my goals either, It has not had a adverse effect on my health. I haven't had a episode for a couple of weeks now but I feel nauseous when I smell some foods, just like when I was pregnant. At the moment my diet is limited but I am trying to expand it. If I vomit on a food it puts me off it for a a few weeks. I would contact your team and make sure you do not have a stricture or need some some better nausea tablets. Good luck going forward.

Kinda annoyed and confused
summerseeker replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have lost 28lbs, You are eating tiny amounts. Eat your protein and drink your water quota. Like every one in here you have to trust the process, all we can do is advice you. There is very little protein in apple sauce. Buy some minced meat and cook it really well with tinned tomatoes like a bolognaise sauce. Blitz it if necessary. Lots of protein and it will stay in your tummy longer. Portion it up into two ounce pots and freeze it. Sometimes hunger pangs are stomach acid and believe me they feel the same. If you need more information, track your calories, I use MY FAT SECRET. An awful name but very useful. You only fail if you give up. If you watch that tv show a lady had the surgery and ended up weighing 200 lbs heavier than when she started.
