    Post-op complications?

Yes there are plenty asking for help and advice on here. Me included. If you read the back pages of the forum [it goes back 20 years] Some people get away trouble free but about 1 % [ my guesstimate] have small hiccups at the start. My incision line swelled and took a long time to go down, so going through the stages of re introducing foods was harder for me. By 4 months things began to be easier. I have zero regrets
  2. Super brave wow. You know when the ouch is coming. Torture on the highest scale

    Trying to decide

To answer a few of your questions, no one answer fits everybody as @Arabesque say. Will your hair fall out ?? who knows, Has mine? OMG yes but I can feel the new hair sprouting. Will you wrinkle ?? who knows, Have I ? OMG yes but I was a very overweight soon to be 63 years old. Do I care ? nope because I wear pants and 3/4 sleeve tops that hide it all. My face is fine yet. I might have plastics in a few years if it bothers me then. I am saving just in case. I only told my friend of 57 years, my husband and my son. I don't want judgement or other peoples opinion, its irrelevant. I was a weekend drinker in my early years but I like to be fairly sober these days as it messes with my medication. I have had a few drinks since surgery, I am quite partial to a Bloody Mary. I can probably count the drinks I have had in 6 months on one hand. I get a buzz off one. Will I become alcoholic ? No thanks Keep doing your research, keep asking questions because in the end you are the only one who knows if its for you

    Trying to decide

We all come to the end of the line at some point. That's it no more. I just knew. My personal preference would be to have the surgery as local as possible because you might need extra help, I did.
  6. I am flying out for a holiday in a few weeks and have given snacks a great deal of thought. I can eat only a tiny amount at a meal, just a tiny bit more than a boiled egg. So I need in between meal options. In the UK there are lots of stuff to pack into children's lunch boxes. A lot is rubbish food but some is ok. 10 gm Pepperami sticks, Snacking nuts in 20 gm packs, Tiny packs of Melba toast to eat with a tin of tuna salad, 2 Oat biscuits in a packet with a 32 g pack of soft cheese or peanut butter, 65gm packs of snacking olives and 20 gm packets of mixed seeds are some that are on my tick list

    Wowser and the cost
  9. I want to answer this because I want to help you and HUG you. I just don't have your answers because I am afraid to say the wrong thing and make you decide the wrong way. I know what my depression was like - I was alone in a sea of people and had to pretend everything was ok until the dam broke and then 10 years of Citalopram. I still have my bad days but I recognise them and take action. Having the surgery has done nothing for my depression except given me my legs back and that gives me more options to help myself. My surgery was done for every other reason except depression. Speak with a therapist who deals with these issues. Dont listen to people who are filling your head with their fears and jealousy.

    Starting over post 2 years

I am 6 months out and only just got the hang of protein. My journey has been rocky. I use a food diary to help me account for everything. I am in the UK so am no help to you but many people will chip in later with US ones. Is My fitness Pal a US one ? There are many that are free and very good. You just need patience to get used to logging foods and drinks. So for example - A protein drink [ if you can stomach them ] about 25gms Protein yogurt 200mls = 25gms ! boiled egg = 5 or 6gms Full skimmed milk 18 fluid ounces = 18 gms 6 ounce chicken breast , baked without oil = 45gms 1 ounce hard cheese about 5 or 6gms My rules are - always eat protein first, veg second and then Carbs. I rarely get any veg or fruit [ today was 2 grapes, woohoo] I dream of when I can eat Noodles again........ Good luck with your continuing journey

How did I get to this weight?

I ate myself to disability, I just got the news that I was diabetic on top of everything else I had. My moment had come, I decided pretty quickly that being so disabled, dieting again was not an option. Surgery it was. Now I am 90 pounds down and can walk again. I have my independence back

    I'm struggling losing weight

You are in the third week stall. You will drop soon.

    Regrets ?

Ask me this at month 2 and I would say maybe but..... Now at month 6 and 90lbs down, hahahahaha no. TBH that 90lbs down has had me smiling all week

    3 week stall

TBH you are doing so well. 40lbs is a lot of weight to loose and you are on the right track. You should not change anything that your team has set for you. My dietician explained bariatric weight loss like a staircase. For every down step there is a flat step. If you track your food, { I use My Fat Secret UK} you know that you are in a calorie deficit. You can not fail. I am lucky if I manage 850 a day but I have had a difficult time since surgery. So am a little behind my peers. I once had a 5 week stall that had me worrying but the good people here put me right. Onwards and downwards.

    Ist weigh in! [emoji3061]

Keep lots of money in your pockets, wear some really heavy chunky jewellery and wear thin socks so that you are shorter when you take your shoes off to be measured. Good luck

    Not tolerating intake well

Try warmer drinks. My stomach would not tolerate cold drinks and cramped in shock . I needed anti nausea medication to get on the top of things. Take care of yourself
  17. Don't be frightened of something that may or may not happen to you. That's no way to live a life. I have been able to drink coffee since I woke up in hospital. I drink it all day, every day. In the past months I have enjoyed Tomato juice, it tastes delicious. Even now and again with a drop of vodka in it.

    Man I am torn........

Have you tried to go back to basics and begin again, your original surgery is still there. Just because you have gained some weight does not mean that it will not work again. You will have to go back to basics and do the Reset. I have read about it in this forum

    Dreaded hair loss - question

It's great to here that your hair is growing again. Mine is in the middle of the loss cycle. There is so much falling onto my clothes. For the first time in my life I have short hair. I think I like it, my husband is less sure . My scalp is so itchy, does anyone know of any product that will help ? TIA

    Puréed meats

You are very early in your recovery. Take it easy and try not to rush things. You will get to where you want to be soon enough. Your poor cut stomach needs to heal and your food is designed to pass through it quickly.

    PreOp Diet Struggles

Darcell76 If you are on a liquid only diet that doesn't allow sugar free jelly and sugar free popsicles then its the most brutal one I have heard of. Ring your team and tell them you are struggling { anyone would } and ask if you can have any more food. I pray you can

    Social eating after gastric sleeve

I have eaten out twice now and both times with someone who knows I have had the surgery. The first time I dumped after a few hours and was unwell for a few day. I think my choice was greasy, I forgot to ask for dry cooking. The second time I couldn't have a pre look at the online menu and chose just a prawn starter. The prawns were really tough and I left it and sat chatting to my friends. I am going on Holiday in 4 weeks and really do not know what to tell the people that I am with. I have never told them. My micro portions will be noticed. They know me very well. I imagine I will have to say what's happened. I am struggling to eat more than 2 ounces of protein and no veg. Any advice welcome
