Whit whoo, Congratulations. I followed your journey avidly. Your started your journey at about the time I found this wonderful forum. I needed to hear the problems and joys you were going through at that time. Thanks for the inspiration.

Many years ago at Slimming World, I learned not to look at the results of others and criticise myself . What I was doing just didn't seem good enough. So I criticised myself and gave up. I have watched people shoot past me on here but the fact that I am still loosing weight, even at a snails pace, brings me joy. Never, ever compare yourself to others. I have also rid my body of Diabetes. It will attain us a longer life, healthier life. It is the biggest present you can give yourself. It seems to me that you have smashed it. Look at what you can do compared to last year. Your body is thanking you

How did you choose your goal weight?
summerseeker replied to kbsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They take it from there own BMI calculator. I am in the UK so the parameters may be different to yours. It uses height, age, ethnicity and how much exercise you do. A healthy range for me would be between 112 pounds [haha] and 150 pounds according to the British Medical Association. So I guess they pick a number in between and anything extra is classed as excess weight. So 100 % of my excess weight would be between 218 pounds and 190 pounds lost. The sleeve surgery itself says you should loose 65 % of excess weight -
I skipped it. The thought of puree made me gag. I made foods like Indian Dhal, [ without the whole spices] celery and stilton cheese soup and butternut squash and lentil soup. I blitzed them with a stick blender and managed them fine. I also ate cream cheese, crushed boiled egg and mayo. I had and still have taste issues. Hummus still is a no no for me

I was 16 when I had gallstones. The pain was the worst I have ever experienced. Because I was not - Fair, Fat and over 40 the doctors mis diagnosed me. I was so ill and vomiting that I was admitted to hospital 3 times in 7 months. Eventually I met a doctor who got it right and I had urgent surgery. If you have Gall bladder problems you will be super ill, you will know about it for sure

How did you choose your goal weight?
summerseeker replied to kbsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't/ don't have a goal weight because I have been crushed by not achieving it in the past. Also I don't know how far this surgery will take me. The hospital dietician said I could loose 65% of my excess weight and I have already smashed that, her words. Loosing 100lbs was my first goal and I got there easy. I personally would like to get under the 200lbs barrier even if its only a pound. Not being in the obese category would be nice too...... -
Weight loss continues almost 2 years post op
summerseeker replied to Studio54's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I needed to up my calories for energy and as I can not eat more yet, my dietician advised drinking an extra pint of milk a day. Luckily I love milk. I make it into milkshake with fruit. My energy levels have soared since and in a month I have not had to sit and rest or eat some protein. -
It may also be that as you are loosing weight your stance may have altered. I walk so much taller these days and it made me ache until my muscles got used to it. Also I needed new bras as my old ones gave me back aches just because of the size change.

summerseeker replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Super congratulations on the 100 down, amazing achievement feeling, isn't it ? Also so glad you are feeling better -
You are at your most vulnerable at the moment. You have just had a huge surgery that will turn your life upside down for a few months. Your hormones are all over the place and you are very sore. You have to cope with a whole new way of restricted eating and drinking. Life for you is very tough at the moment. Add in to this mix is a mum who is trying to be part of this new you. If my mum were alive I can bet she would say something similar too. What you are going through is tough now but it will get easier soon. Once you feel stronger you will be able to cope better. Eat and drink what ever your team say is ok. Ignore the other stuff as best you can. I still eat sugar free popsicles because they taste good to me. If you need to vent again, we are here, we listen and hope it will help you

This flu has GOT TO GO!!!
summerseeker replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I feel for you, flu and sickness too must be awful. I dread getting coughs and colds because of the pneumonia too. You seem to be doing all the right things with plenty of fluids and vitamins. Keep warm. In the UK we have a cure all that is Whisky, hot water, lemon and honey. Drink enough of it and you feel better. Albas oil on a handkerchief is great for clearing the head if you sniff it. Rest up. -
Congratulations and its great to meet you. Yes its a wonderful tool that has brought me great joy too. You are looking so fabulous. Keep up the good work

Protein Intake
summerseeker replied to Dianne Bradshaw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We have had our tummies made into a small tube. After surgery the tube will be very swollen. It's very difficult to drink for most of us. The sooner you can hit your liquid goals the better you will feel. Just keep drinking and try for more every day. It seems like a day's work to keep on top of it in the beginning but it's worth the effort. Try hot cold and frozen drinks. -
So depressed about my hair
summerseeker replied to Candigrl1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am so sorry you have lost so much hair, it's so scary isn't it. I hope you feel the new growth soon. The tips on using hair bands and clip in are so good. It's hat season here so it's not much of a problem for me. If you can afford it, go see a wig maker or an extension hairdresser for help and tips. -
I have just had 5 boozy days away with friends. I was careful not to overdo it but got a bit tipsy most days and had no pain. I diluted my drinks well with a diet mixer and drank slower than everyone else. One evening I had a glass of Prosecco that gave me awful reflux, so I have crossed that one off my list. Try a different drink or have a glass of milk or a piece of cheese before the whisky and see if that helps

Just had my gastric bypass surgery on Tuesday
summerseeker replied to Kelseydawn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Try low fat milk whizzed with banana and a spoonful of low sugar peanut butter. It has a great protein count. If you are allowed a coffee made with milk. I also drank beef bouillon cubes in water and pho. Your time will pass, the first weeks are the hardest -
Well its exactly one year since I got my sleeve. I am so glad that I was able to do this. I cannot believe the difference in myself. As the pounds fell off, I gained my independence and gained myself-esteem back. That alone was worth every penny it cost me. I was beginning to become a hermit, happy to stay home and never face anyone again. Yes, the preop diet was hard. I was sick and nauseated for weeks after and my recovery was slow. Would I do this again? in a heartbeat, I wish I could have done it years ago. If you are thinking about the surgery and are still on the fence. If I could do this, you can too

Huge congratulations. Its a fantastic milestone to duck under

Pre-surgery diet
summerseeker replied to Bariatric BRE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's like getting tortured isn't it. Just struggle through. By day four you will have it easier. Everyone is set a different diet so we can't really advise you on what you could eat. Sugar free ice pops should be fine though. The reason they do the diet is to - 1. Make us realise how much and how badly we ate. It helps break the sugar and junk food cycle. 2. To shrink our livers so the surgery is safe. A fatty liver is very fragile, they have to move it to get at the surgery site. A few people have had the surgery begin and woke to find the surgeon said, 'sorry can't do this today' They were heartbroken. Stick with it, it's worth it in the end. We are all living proof its possible. Mine was 3 long torturous weeks and I was so sick of it that I almost ran to the operating theatre shouting ' let's get this done'
