  1. It is heart breaking. My husband had never seen me with short hair. I think he loved my long hair more than me. I went shoulder length and then a couple of months later, a pixie cut. My hair loss phase lasted about 4 scary months and settled just before it became really noticeable. I have some new growth, we call it bum fluff, fine whispery strands. I think I may keep it short in future because its a revelation to me how easy it is to wash and style
  2. Thank you for the information. Its very useful. I wonder if the hospital in Mexico know how bad the aftercare facility actually is? They should

    Acid Reflux

Yes I got GERD after surgery and had a pretty tough time with nausea and reflux until they sorted my meds. I raised my bed at the head end with books. Bought a wedge and take 30mgs of Lansoprazole twice a day. I feel that I have this mastered as long as I don't eat within 2 hours of bedtime.

    New New new

Custard was offered to me the day after surgery but the thought of it made me heave. One of the earliest foods I can remember eating was tiny slivers of hard cheese, melted on my tongue. I wanted salty not sweet

    Post-op day 3 and struggling

If you have a paper cut on your finger it hurts really bad and they are usually teeny tiny ones. Our stomachs have been chopped off. Its a huge surgery. There is a swelling and healing process going on that we cant see but I really didnt understand either. I had a tough time early on, I had to stay in the hospital 6 days. My stomach cut line was so swollen they thought I had a stricture. Every day got better and the more fluid you get in the better you feel. Have a drink with you even in bed, it all helps

    5 years later…

Thank you for sharing your journey. Its great to hear a success story
  10. I was told to add milk, nuts or cheese to increase calories as they all help with proteins too. There are many times when I am still not hungry, especially if I am travelling or busy. I always carry a protein bar in my bag for these days. If I am home then a protein yogurt has enough protein in to substitute for the skipped meal. A handful of nuts are easy to eat and are calorific My team would like me to up my calories to 1200 now so I mostly do it but twice this pre Christmas week, I have been so busy that I have failed both protein and calorie quotas. I feel my energy drop if I do this too.
  11. Every surgeon has his or her own pre op diet and you are one of the lucky ones. In the 18 months that I have been regular on here, there have only been a few people who were so very lucky. You are also at a lower weight so will not have the same issues as someone a hundred pounds heavier like me. The pre op diet is more to shrink your liver as it gets in the way of this surgery. Surgery teams don't make mistakes like not telling you to do the pre op. You would know well in advance if you needed to start the pre op. Just enjoy Christmas and good luck with your surgery

    Minimal Weight Loss

Hello and welcome in this forum. I weighed in, heavier than you. I lost 15lbs during my 3 week pre op. Then 27lbs in the first month. So you seem on track to me. What kind of foods are you eating and are you tracking your proteins and calories ? Everyone has a different weight loss journey and its not a great idea to compare with others. Medications, age, height and medical issues are different with each person. This leads to different weight loss. Also how much you can walk or exercise can benefit weight loss.

    ARG!!

Hmmm, yes it stinks. Its just not as much fun when you can not adjust your ticker every day. I use MY FAT SECRET to track my food and if I don't adjust my weight every two weeks it prompts me to update. It always feels as if it is judging me, lol. I usually swear at it.

    Post op plastic surgery

This is really up to the surgeon. In my non surgical opinion, face and neck should be ok sooner

    Post op plastic surgery

If I ever want to go on holiday and wear a swimsuit or bare my arms again, then I will have to get arm and leg surgery. I had really fat arms and legs. They are really bad, so bad that they shock me. I used to wear wide leg trousers and find now that I love skinny leggings. Winter weight ones hide my wrinkles. I did expect it because of my age and am saving hard to afford it. The rest of my body, I can hide so I will see sometime later on about that. I was told by the dietician that the surgeon will not contemplate my surgery until I am in maintenance. Fortunately, my eyesight is shot, I can not see the finer details of my face anymore. This will save me a fortune

    Pregnancy like symptoms

I remember feeling like I was pregnant too. Laughable when you are in your 60's. There are foods that I can not tolerate even now, 1 year out. Most fish and especially salmon seems too greasy or smelly now and it was my go to food before surgery. The smell of cooking broccoli or cauliflower makes me heave. Any meat fat would have been the first mouthful before surgery. Now the winter birds are enjoying these tasty treats. One thing that I cry over is I have lost my tolerance for spicy food. I feel like a child again, starting back at the beginning with mild spicing. Even mild tinned chilli seemed too hot this week.

    Relationships after bypass

So sorry if I sound harsh here but this is setting my alarm bells ringing. You need to have a talk with your hubby fast. Controlling behaviour is very scary and does not come from a good place. He is very frightened he will loose you, its his problem and yours to deal with.

    Post op complications

Could be a stricture as people have said and this is a easy fix. Hope you are feeling better soon

    Chest pressure

You could try drinking slower or thinning the shake down if it feels too thick. I could not tolerate cold drinks. I had warm ones. That stopped the pressure pain in my tummy. Now if I overeat by a spoonful, the pressure is there. Always check with your team if you are unsure. They get over paid for it.

    Telling friends and family

It takes me a while to decide on anything. Once the decision is made then its going to take a massive event to shake my resolve, the pandemic didn't stop me. Once my husband said he was onboard I phoned the private hospital. I only told my only child and bestie of 50+ years, both were encouraging. Since surgery I have told my sisters and an overweight neighbour who asked about my weight loss. Unless your friend apologises for being being so negative, I can't see how your friendship would get passed this. As Arabesque says the stats are really good. You live in a country where I don't think you will have any aftercare worries. There is so much advice in this forum if you are unsure of anything, now or later, we are only here to help and encourage. What the person said against the surgery was their own doubts, not yours. If you decide to postpone, its totally ok. You will probably regret your second thoughts but eventually will decide its the correct path for you like we all did. Breathe

    Hello... newbie here

Hello and welcome in the very best forum. At the side of your name at the top of the page - click on create. In the drop down is a header called Ticker. That will let you get the diagram you want. If you want a certain topic be a little more specific. Put ' January ' surgery in the search box. Hope that helps

    Always cold!!!!

Last summer I went to Spain and the temperature was in the 90's. Hot Hot Hot. I did not break a bead of sweat. Didn't use the air con, just felt brilliant. Today its -8 and I am going Christmas shopping with my bestie. I am freezing in a Thermal vest, jumper dress, leggings, long socks and fur boots, big parka coat and bobble hat, wool scarf and two pairs of gloves. I always complained about being too hot before surgery....... serves me right
