    Revision

Hello Tina. Can you give us some stats to go on. What weight did you begin at, what weight did you get to with your sleeve, height etc. A 25pound loss seems really good in 6 weeks but we need to know more about you
  2. 1. I had not restriction on Straws. Used them without any problems right from day one in hospital 2. I got an adult dose of vitamins from the supermarket, Dieticians recommendation. Changed to ones without iron because of nausea. I take calcium tablets. Every 3 months I have a vitamin B12 injection which really helps with my energy levels. 3.I was tested for swelling of my incisions but nor leaks 4. Sodium is never an issue in the UK. I could have broth 5. I could not have a shower until my staple were taken out at about 10 days. They didnt want the dressings getting wet. [ strangely I was given new dressings for after showers, so I ignored the first set of instructions and showered] Pack a blanket if its cold outside, I was freezing. Take a pillow to hug in the car ride home. You can put it under the seat belt. Bumpy roads are the norm over here and a pillow did help. Lip balm and biotin was very useful
  3. My iron levels have been fine and I still got hair loss so I think the doctor is telling fibs

    Reaching my goals!

Hello back at you. You are doing super well and must be feeling so much better already. That is a huge chunk of your BMI gone. BTW I have a passion for Canasta too
  5. Once you get onto real foods your restriction will kick in. Its really hard to get a feel for it before that. I sometimes got a runny nose or began sneezing when it was time to put the spoon down. At other times I missed the signal and would get the foamies. Its a tough learning curve at the beginning. Are you allowed toast on a pureed diet? Remember your stomach has to heal together and if you are eating off your plan it can be dangerous. Contact your team
  6. What does your team say ? That's all that matters. We all travel at our own pace. We are all different by sex, age and levels of activity. For some the road is short because they have less to loose. There will never be an average weight loss per month because of our variables. Just keep plodding on. You will get where you want to be. I think you are doing ok but I don't know your diet or how many calories you are eating or what kind of foods you can manage. Sent from my Lenovo TB-J606F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre-Op by a month and I'm scared...

You are taking a leap into the unknown and are bound to be a little scared. We all went there. The surgery is one of the safest going. I can't find the figures but they are amazing. I personally ran into the operating theatre because I was so sick of my three week pre op diet. In the end I just couldn't wait for it to be over Sent from my Lenovo TB-J606F using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hello it's a huge problem for a great many of us. I once went 15 days and oh boy did I suffer. I had hot sweats and nausea every day. I was on two sachets of benifiber a day. Eventually the dam burst and I was so thankful. I found by accident that unsweetened dried cranberries work wonders for me. I hope you find the magic formula for you soon. 9. I still can not eat salmon. It's to oily. I tried cooking it every which way but it's a no every time from my tummy. It breaks my heart, salmon was a go to before surgery. Keep trying different foods and go back to failed ones every once in a while. It took me ten months to finally master chicken. Sent from my Lenovo TB-J606F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Meatless

Before this surgery I would have lived on fish and seafood if my pocket could afford it. Over the last 13 months the thought of it revolts me and try as I might, I just can not eat it. I eat all meats, I don't want to eat it but my body needs it. I have started eating beans, pulses and lentils as meat replacements and prefer them. I have very little room for rice, pasta, potatoes or bread yet but can manage a desert spoonful occasionally after my vegetables I have no issues with cheese, yogurt, milk and eggs. I hope I can eat normally at some point

    Stalls

Stalls are demons that play with your mind. So very annoying too. You will eventually get very used to them. You will say to yourself ' I have not lost for two weeks and am only eating 600 cals a day, I must be over eating' In the last year I think I had 4. Which were 2 x 2 weeks and 1 x 3 weeks and 1 x 9 weeks. Its just your body having a rest and reset. The first one usually comes in at 2-4 weeks after surgery. Someone said there are 17 thousand posts about this stall on this site alone.

    exercise post op

I don't know your stats or your fitness levels so my advice has to be generic. Keep it simple and cheap. Just start walking. Walk a little more each day. I was almost disabled, my exercise was vacuuming a room in my home and then resting an hour. Cleaning a room and resting. Sitting to chop foods and resting. Standing to make the food and being done for the day. Just by loosing weight and walking I have come such a long way. Tomorrow I am going to take a 8 hour train journey, alone with luggage. I am excited and not a bit fazed about doing it. I couldn't do it before It has been found that exercise only contributes to a small amount of weight loss and you need to up your food intake to fill your hunger. Gyms are not for everyone. If you find one locally, ask for a trial period and see if it suits you. Some gyms are very snarky places where you may be very judged and feel uncomfortable. Good luck on this wonderful journey

    4 days post op

Yes lots of us had difficulty drinking in the early days of this surgery. If you are drinking icy cold drinks and you are getting the crampy feeling, try warming your drinks. You can also thin out your shakes if they seem thick or gloopy. Tightness in your chest is probably your new tummy being full. Just do your very best. As the internal swelling goes down it does get easier. You should be able to increase your fluid intake everyday
  16. I had the surgery last year when I was 62. Only regret was waiting so long but I never had the funds before. I feel so well now and am super happy with my weight loss so far

I get really cold after eating a little too much, my skin gets goosebumps and I feel shivery. Its the oddest feeling
  18. If you are allowed to eat all foods then try it. Make your trial at home just incase

    Soft protein

Hello and welcome. Did they tell you to have sauce or gravy with your foods ? Dry meats and fish may be difficult for some at the beginning.

    First days

Lots of us have nausea, We have smaller stomachs but still have the same amount of stomach acid inside. You need the correct amount of nausea meds for you. I still need mine twice a day and have to watch for eating too late because of GERD. You can let your shakes down with milk or water, heat or cool them. Just find what is acceptable to your stomach and does not go against anything your team advocates. I was able to make my own shakes with milk, milk powder, fruit and sugar free peanut butter.

    Sudden onset of painful nausea

Yes we have. Its called the foamies. Tomato may be a little acidic for your new tummy. Or its just not ready to take it yet. Go back a stage for a day or two until your tummy settles and then try a milder soup, like cream of chicken or just broth. I hosted a party last night and ate too quickly because I was cooking between courses and got the nausea. I went to the loo and quickly got rid of the foam, no one noticed, not even my husband.
  22. I am sorry you had to go through this. Thats tough. We gear ourselves up to go ahead with surgery and have to do it all again in the future. I hope you heal quickly without too much pain. Hugs x

    A little drink?

I drink if its an occasion and I feel like it. Why not ? My team have never banned it and I am old and fairly sensible. I choose low alcohol spirits and a lots of diet mixer. At 2 months out, we went on a All inclusive holiday and I carefully tried a few Bloody Mary's. I lived to tell the tale, nothing bad happened.
  24. Hello and welcome to this site and the new you. I had a look back and I lost a pound a day too. I did a happy dance every day

    Celiac Disease

My surgeon does not do Protein Shakes. I drank milk with dry milk powder in it to boost the protein levels. Its cheap and you can choose how to flavour it.
