Dating with excess Skin as a Man.

Just wow. You have smashed it. My advice for what its worth would be. Give yourself time to adjust to being smaller. I am into my 3rd year post op and still look in the mirror and wonder at my size. I have always been big and it has taken me a while to adjust to not being the focus of everyone's eyes. With clothes on I fit in this world now. Without clothes ? at your age, I would get the surgery. At my age I am ok with the skin

    Taking the plunge

Everything you are about to do is new. I won't lie for most of us the first month is tough. Not because of pain but all the new things that need learning. The two main things are - Your first will be drinking. You will have a tiny stomach to begin with that will have a swollen stitch line. This makes sipping drinks a full time job. The more liquid you can get in you, the better you will feel. Secondly its going through the food stages. Just do your best. Be prepared for some foods to repulse you. Don't bulk buy. Use you team post surgery for the big questions and worries and this forum will give you great guidelines and advice. I read a lot of back pages of the forum whilst I waited for the surgery. It hold masses of information. You will only find help here, we don't criticize. We all did the surgery, we all managed the process, you will too. You don't need to know everything right now.

    Mood Swings

Hello @Selki Even I had these at 60. I was tearful and touchy. It felt like PMT. I hadn't been pre warned about these and when I asked on here, I was quickly answered. Once I knew the cause it was easy to accept the feelings and move on. The symptoms don't last long, about a month in my case. I had to say sorry a few times to my husband. Good luck with your surgery, it has so many benefits you will be amazed.

Exercises for those who hate exercise?

I love to walk, I can speed march now. I can walk to the shops and walk back with two full bags of shopping. If I am home alone and the weather is bad and I feel like I need to do some exercise, I will put on fluffy socks and dance myself dizzy on my tiled kitchen floor. Every Tuesday I volunteer in a charity shop. Its so busy. I work like a demon and its seriously hard graft. I get home exhausted. I have to give myself a day off on Wednesday because I am usually still fatigued. Exercise doesn't have to be boring or paid for. Find something you love to do and run with it.

    Taking Tablets?

I found taking my meds very difficult for months. I took what I could, any way I could. Having to space everything out is really difficult. Drink ,wait, eat, wait, tablets wait !!! It does seem like a full time job. Some of my tablets are tiny so they were ok. My pain meds, for Fibromyalgia, were a struggle. I had to crush them and they were vile. It did not matter what I mixed them with, I dreaded them. Shudder. I did not take the repulsive Calcium tablet for months, I couldn't, the texture repulsed me. My team were ok with this. They understood my struggle. I soon had to stop some because I didnt need them anymore, blood pressure was the first to go. Some people had no problems at all, I was so envious.

    Bread

I love a super seeded bread and like @JennyBeez My bread has to be toasted too. I also like the tiny super crisp Melba toast, the kind you have with pate. I make my own Wholemeal loaves for the family and can eat a small sandwich made from this.
  7. You are very welcome. You are doing so well. In such a short time you have lost half of yourself. Its amazing isn't it

    Indoor or Outdoor Exercise

I love walking outdoors. I get a huge buzz from just walking quick. I hope the feeling never grows old. Pre surgery, I couldn't walk without a stick and was a out of breath, sweaty mess. I had to Google every destination to be sure that the journey was do-able for me.

    Meat or Plant Base

Both. As long as I do the processing and cooking then its all fair game. I love to eat in vegan restaurants because they have such a depth of plant based knowledge. I really don't understand why you would buy high chemical processed food. If you eat no meat then why do people eat chemical based flavours that mimic bacon, chicken etc ?
  11. Early out, I struggled to eat for 4 - 6 months or so. I had nausea and foamies really bad. My family were worried. I slowly figured it out and went from a tiny 300 cals to 700, that took me until 12 months out. I managed better after that and 900 - 1200 cals a day until 2 years out. We cook everything from scratch so I keep the fat content low. My stomach has still got a huge restriction [ lucky me] I rarely eat one portion in a sitting and will finish it later. Just trust your plan and your team. Eat the best food you can afford. You are worth the best.

    Needing some encouragement

Who lost 30 pounds in their first month ? Not anyone your size. Who gave you these ridiculous expectations ? It could take a year to 18 months or so for you to be at a healthy weight. Your body will do what it will, you can not force the weight off your body. Stay off the scales, listen to your team and be patient.

    4 months post-op

Yes exactly this. This is so very tiring. Your brain is going a mile a minute and must be burning so many calories. I get B12 shots every 3 months at my doctors. If you have bariatric surgery here it seems to be the norm. These are like liquid energy and I don't need to check my calendar when they are due for renewal. The last two weeks are hell, I drag myself around. I had similar issues to you in my first year. I really struggled to eat and my calories were so low. I tired easily too. My team and I decided that it would be best for me to eat tiny meals, 6 times a day. My menu would be, meal 1, protein yogurt 2, homemade lentil and veg soup 3, scrambled egg 4, Fish in a sauce 5, Some jerky or cheese 6, a latte or some watermelon. This, in my mind gave me everything, I nutritionally needed but my calories were about 500 a day. I started to do full fat everything and upped my calories to 800 slowly. You will feel regret, its a lot to deal with. Every week gets easier. Once you master drinking enough you will leap forward.

    April Surgery

Don't compare your weight loss to anyone else's. That way is only misery. Trust your team and the process. Stick to their regime. It works. The weight you have lost is fantastic and above average. I lost 15lbs. Mahoosive round of applause coming your way. This time next year you will be amazed how much you have lost.

    Sexy Time

Sorry , laughing, Sorry I had some aversions after this surgery, cauliflower, salmon but ejaculate no. The acid in your stomach will deal with any nasties ?
  18. The little things are sometimes the best NSV. Just going into regular shops will never get old to me. Congratulations on your weight loss and the NSV.

    Counting Carbs or Net Carbs

I was never told to count carbs. Like a lot of others on here I prioritise good carbs. Fruit, pulses and lentils etc and as I can't really stomach more than a spoon full of white bread, potatoes, rice and pasta, I imagine my count would be lowish ?
  20. I am so sorry that this has happened, it must be so traumatic. Lots of us get the ' was it worth it feeling' with out the issues you have had to get through. When you feel more in charge of your pain and more sure of the process, you may feel it really was worth it. I did. The rapid weight loss and anaesthetic also makes you feel weak and tired. As you eat a little more you will regain your strength and start surging ahead hopefully. Good luck and good healing

    Travel 6 months Post-op

Hello and congratulations on your surgery date. I travelled a few times in Europe in the first 6 months. I too looked for advice on here. There they had many protein products easily available. I supplemented the hotel food with protein yogurts. From the buffet I was ok with omelettes, bacon, beans and tomatoes. I found soups, deli meats, cheeses, fish and minced meat dishes ok for my evening meal. At that time I couldn't eat chicken, rice, pasta, potatoes, salads and pastry. For the most part they are still off my menu. Everyone is different in how they recover from this surgery. By then you will know your own routine. You will have plenty of energy to do all kinds of activities. My calories were very low at that time so I had energy and then it quickly ran out and I would go for a glass of milk or a milky latte to perk me up long enough until my next meal. I took with me jerky, nuts, cheese snacks and protein bars. You could take protein powder to add to your food. If you can get to a large supermarket, you will be sure to find protein drinks and protein yogurts. They are popular the world over now due to body building.

Scared to do this but more scared to die

Hello Carrielee, Everyone has worries doing this surgery, you are not alone there. You seem to be at a place where there is no going back this time. Most of those things that are wrong with your body will disappear with this surgery. It would be a win, win situation if you could go through with it this time. I will not tell you it will be easy because its not. I had a lot of new stuff to learn and adapt to. I will say that I had zero pain. I did this, I was very disabled. I can rush around now like a spring chicken. Go and get this amazing life, hold your nerve, its so very worth it.

I stepped on the scale one morning and found that a whopping 5 pounds had fallen off me. Just hold your nerve and follow your plan, good luck

    Eating out tip

Yes this is a good tip. I have a certain eating out handbag that just fits my box. We don't always get the option of a doggie bag here so I always go prepared. My husband is always a grateful benefactor of my left overs

Hello Amanda, Just trust the process, it really works. Hold your nerve. Try to not look for ways to break the stall. Your body needs the small rest to begin dropping again.
