  1. Help! I'm not sure if this happens to anyone else, if it has could you please give me some pointers? Sometimes I get a pain in the left side of my stomach. Actually it feels more like right under where the port is. I didn't overeat, however I had maybe 3 cups of tea in succession since I was trying to warm up! This isn't the first time I have had this pain, but it is much worse tonight. I was banded May 1st and have lost about 50 pounds. I also have pretty good restriction, don't drink soda, chew gum or drink thru a straw. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance!!

    taking my life back

Hi Stacy, I am a mother of one beautiful and active 14 yr old and the wife of a wonderful, supportive man. I know exactly where you are coming from. That was me last Aug. I was banded on May 1 of this year and have lost about 30 pounds. People ask me all the time if I think I made the right choice to have the surgery and I always tell them that it was the best decision I've ever made. I had struggled for a long time with my weight and tried everything also. At first my family thought I was crazy to even consider it but then after explaining the whole thing to them many times, they finally got it! Congratulations on making it this far in the program and getting your surgery date. Whenever you need to chat, feel free to mail me...I can't answer every question I am sure but I will help you all I can.

    Pain in a weird spot

Musicman2008 - I found that a cylindrical shaped mooshi pillow helped me sleep on my side for the first month. I am 2 months out tomorrow and not only can I sleep on my side but on my stomach again as well. You can find the mooshi pillows at Bed Bath and Beyond or Linen's and Things. I just stole my daughters. They are great because they squish very well and you can kind of mold it to you. It looks kinda like a big tootsie roll with little tiny beads in it and a silky like cover. Good luck...I was in the same boat but it does get better!

    Hi! Banded 5/1

Hi and welcome Hyacinth, I decided on the lapband because I had know someone who had it done and was very successful with it and because it was less risky than the whole cut and paste as I like to call it. I had a couple of friends that did the GP also and were very successful but as a family we thought it would be best for me to have the lapband. I also had tried everything else, the last being Jenny Craig and after spending thousands of dollars there and gaining the weight back as soon as I stopped eating out of the box I figured that was the last straw. I started my program last Aug. and got my band on 5/1. Having the surgery was the best thing I could have done for myself and my family!
  5. Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to the boards. I was banded on 5/1/08 by Dr. Arcand. After trying everything else with no success I looked into the lap-band and went through the whole program. It was the best thing I could have ever done for myself and my family. I just had my first fill yesterday and am getting used to the new restriction. I am down 28 pounds from 5/1 and I feel great!!!

    Hi! Banded 5/1

Hi! Yes, I have been eating solid foods for a little while now. With the program I was on, I could eat jello, pudding, cottage cheese and yogurt the day after I got home from the hospital, which was the day after my surgery. After two weeks I got to eat all that plus any meat, fish, and poultry with the exception of red meat. After 6 weeks she bumped me up to eating everything with the exception of red meat except on rare occasions. I love eating salad so that was a very long 6 weeks. The whey protein shakes and the protein water helped a lot though. Hi Reeda, I have gone up and down also - depending on the day and not really on what I ate. My nutritionist told me to stay off my scale with the exception of once a week. Because your body naturally goes up and down each day, she said it would drive me crazy AND she didn't want me to become obsessed with the scale and the numbers. I know that when I exercise my weight seems to go up too. Not sure why that is???? Perhaps, you should just get on the scale once a week too....I know that my clothes feel better, so I am going to go by that now. Good luck and don't give up..you can do it!!!
