Unless I am reading the label wrong, Carnation's is not a low carb shake...just lower calorie because of the limited sugar. While it has a fair amount of protein, my surgeon and nutritionist stressed that the purpose of drinking these Protein drinks is to provide a protein supplement not carb energy. They said that the protein is to meet the needs of your body, but that you are supposed to be getting your carbs and such from your food. I dunno, maybe they're are hard-core or something. If I'm missing a yummy product that they make that meets the high protein, low carb goals please share! I'd love a better option!

Can I put in my 2 cents and suggest August Trimmers? I figured that with the measuring tape we can kind of capture the idea of trimming things.

Hellmann's Light is what I prefer. The brand is Best Foods if you are West of the Rockies.

What are you looking forward to doing?

I've mentally kept a list of things that I want to be able to do "some day when I'm not so big." Let's put down a list together, keeping things specific. I'll start! I want to be able to: Tie my shoes without suffocating when I bend over, or not having to pull my foot up by my pantleg if I don't want to bend over. Sit in an airplane seat without feeling like I am hogging up the other person's seat. Not have to worry about whether restaurant chairs have arms that I have to try to squeeze into. I also have to have a "bonus-sized" office chair Your turn! -
I decided to order a zillion samples. I don't have a date yet, but I want to be able to have chosen some good Protein drinks before I'm actually post-op, starving, and desperate. I ordered from bariatriceating, Vitalady, and unjury. Today was my first test drive. The VHT Extreme smoothie in strawberry Supreme tastes like strawberry Quik. My hubby is being a good sport and taste testing my stuff and he's the one that made that comparison. We both hated the EAS chocolate drink that we bought from Wal-Mart. The flavor was nice, but it was so "thin" tasting that we scratched that one from the list. I'll keep you posted!

Horrors, Triumphs, and the Like in the RTP area....

Hmmmm...interesting take on Dr. Moran. I saw him for my consult two weeks ago and had a great experience. His staff was terrific during every call that I've had with them so far. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I think that it may be a cultural difference of some sort. I'm not a huge fan of "fuzzy", so I actually appreciated his to-the-point bedside manner. I'll have to catch the names of the folks that I've worked with. So far the only familiar name is Iris' and she has been incredible. She even let me email her a scan of my insurance card when our office fax went on the fritz. That's not a public email address, so I really, really, really appreciated it! They have a new nutritional counselor who comes into their office on Wednesdays, Shelley Wegman. I was sooooooo not looking forward to my eval with her 'cause I just imagined an hour of being told all of the stuff that all of us know about how we SHOULD eat. Instead, she was incredibly positive, didn't patronize me one bit, and answered all of my questions until I felt that I completely understood. As long as you go into Dr. Moran's office with the knowledge that he is a straightforward guy, I cannot imagine that you'll have any trouble. I will definitely keep you all posted if my opinion changes as things move along! -
I don't have a date yet, but hope that I'll be in with you folks in August! I work at a university, so I can relate to needing to get this done early in the month so that I'll be a couple of weeks post-op before the hubbub starts. I got lucky on all of my initial appts. Silly, but my insurance would only pay for RNY if my BMI was over 50, so I actually had to lose about 10# before the doc could even consult for a lapband. I saw him for the first time on 6/23. Fortunately, he had a brand new nutritionist who was coming into the office for consults once a week and since she was new I was able to get in last week. I have a long-term shrink, so that appt was a breeze. Nice to not have to go through an entire history! I had, had a chest x-ray last year as an eval for chest pain with a new primary care doc, so only needed that one transferred. Only thing left is to wait for the reports from the foodie and shrink docs to get to the surgeon and we'll be able to pick a date. I'll keep lurking, and keep you posted!

Things I won't/don't miss about being Obese
Lanakila replied to MissWilde's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I won't miss people jumping up off of "my" easy chair because the cushion is deeply shaped by my butt and horribly uncomfortable for them. I'm treating myself/them to a new comfy chair that my much smaller butt won't ruin for all of us! -

You have to blow out, then bend over, paint one nail, nearly suffocate because your "rolls" are pressing so hard on your chest that you cannot inhale, grab your lower back and groan as you stand back up, suck in air like it's your first breath after birth. Repeat until you get all 10, or turn blue, or both! -

I want to be able to drive other people's cars without bruising the top of my thighs trying to squeeze under their steering wheel. -

OMG the pedicures! I totally forgot about trying to paint my toenails. I have to either stand up, or drag my foot up onto my knee using my pantlegs...and even then how on Earth am I supposed to paint that little toe???
