    Let's Get This Party Started!

It's awesome to be able to "talk" to everyone on this thread! Is anyone having trouble with the email subscription link back to threads not working? I'm really irritated that my links are only pointing back to the main page. Grrrrr...sometimes it's hard to find other threads that I've posted on so if I want to see replies I just subscribe so that I'll get updates. With it not working, it seems to just defeat the purpose, no? Fortunately, I have this board bookmarked and I lurk on it pretty much all day! 'nuff griping about that...now to gripe about something else! I cannot seem to get in touch with my coordinator! I finished what, I hope, will be my last test on Tuesday, and I just want to find out if she now has all of the reports and stuff (ok, and I secretly want to make a date.) I'm trying to be "nice" and wait until this afternoon before I try to call her again. I don't want to pester her more than once a day.... I tried a new Protein last night. The Syntha-6 chocolate mixed in 8 oz of skim was absolutely fabulous. I don't know what kind of thickener they use, but it was alot less watery textured than some shakes. My hubby tasted (he's a good sport) and said that this one was definitely tolerable. Nice review, huh? Actually, that's a pretty good review from him Off to work...ttyl
  2. As a graduate of Peay, I thought I'd send a shout out to a Tucka-see-n. I'm in NC now, but it's fun to see Clarksville in print :cool2: I'm on regular psych meds so I was very, very concerned about how best to manage my meds. My doc told me that the only issue would be if I were taking an XR or extended release version of a med. Otherwise, crushing them should not be having an effect. I'd guess that your depressive episode is probably just a side-effect of ALL of the stimulation that you've had over the last several weeks. Imagine how the excitement and nerves got you all wound up, and then the pain and post-op swinging you around like you were square dancing. I'm not a professional, but that would be what I'd think if it were me suffering like you are. Hang in there, sweetie!

    Protein shakes?

I bought a zillion samples from www.vitalady.com a couple of weeks ago so that I could experiment before I actually "needed" them. I've enjoyed the ProBlend 55 and Syntha-6 chocolates. I've discovered that all of the vanillas are icky (IMO) unless they are put into oatmeal or cream of wheat. I also tried an Atkins milk chocolate ready-made shake and it was pretty good. To be honest with you, the Atkins stuff is plenty good enough. I don't know if I could use it for maintenance, but I'm pretty sure that I could do ok with it for 2-3 weeks. Hope this helps!

    Please cheer me up

Six pounds is fantastic! I know it's hard to be optimistic when you are frustrated, but I agree with everyone else that you should focus on your body healing right now. It's kinda graphic, but there's a great vid on YouTube that shows the actual surgery. If you an stomach it (haha), you might be more patient with yourself. After you see what your poor abdomen has been through, you'll actually want to give it a rest. Hang in there sweetie....

    Waiting

Do you drink with your meals?
  6. Hang in there honey...we're all cheering for you! Have you tried the strips for the gas? I think that they are Mylanta or Maalox? I've seen on other boards where folks have suggested them instead of liquids or other stuff. I don't know if they actually help, but you let us know, k?

Onederland has a new citizen!!! :)

That is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! You should certainly pat yourself on the back (which I bet you couldn't do before...I sure can't) and be sure to treat yourself in some way. This is a HUGE achievement and you are right to be super proud of yourself. Save a seat in onederland for me...I hope to be there someday!
  8. Hi Suzie,

I see that you have an August date...congrats! Pop on over to the August 2008 month banders board and introduce yourself. There are a few folks in there who will be banded on the same day!

    NC gang

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I'd be happy to make a NC version of the table that I made on the August 2008 board. It could have everyone's username, band date, dr, hometown? Check out the one on the board and let me know. It's easy to update and has really helped us to connect!

    Let's Get This Party Started!

So, Hottie...just what parts will your hubby be measuring, hmmmmm? Actually, I look forward to being able to get those gross pics taken so that I can use them as motivation while I'm trying to get past the smell of those darned Protein drinks. I've found some that taste pretty good but, sheesh, they all smell "proteiney." I keep telling my hubby that I'm going to have to get one of those sippy cups that is indented in, like a travel mug, so that I don't have to smell the darned things! Shelby, have you told your kids what your surgery is for? How do you think you are going to handle still having to cook for the household? I have a girlfriend who had a RNY about 7 years ago and has had 2 little girls since. Both of her girls know that mommy cannot eat sugary things because it will make her sick. But she also will treat them to a sweet once a week. I don't know how she can bake brownies and not sneak a pile of them! I'm not the kind of girl who will be able to even start with a tiny portion. Sweets are always going to be a "red light" food for me, so better I not even tempt myself! I'm lucky in that my hubby is the cook most of the time, and since we don't have kids I won't have to look longingly at a bunch of big plates of yumminess. I'll probably start looking longingly at the dog and cat bowls....

    Let's Get This Party Started!

OK, I'll start... Lapband related: Today I go for my EKG. The dr didn't originally order one, but his office called on Friday to let me know that they "had made an appt for me." Good thing my job is flexible enough for me to pop out on short notice! This test should be the last hoop I have to jump through. Then I'm really (REALLY) hoping that I'll be able to get a date so that they can apply for pre-approval from my ins. Not really related: I am a geeky person, I'll admit it. I also have four cats, much to my husband's dismay. My little sister sent me this YouTube link this morning and I pretty much laughed so hard that I snorted my morning soda (yes, I'll have to give up the diet pepsi :tongue_smilie: ). The guys did an awesome job of planning, writing and editing this video. Even if you aren't a cat owner, I think you'll enjoy their humor! An Engineer's Guide to Cats: [ame= ] [/ame]
  12. Honey, if the most you have ever lost with the band is 28 lbs (1 stone 12 lbs) then you should consider seeing a different doctor for better guidance. It is not enough for your doctor to just tinker around with your fills. He/she is supposed to be advising you on how to best use the band as a tool. I'm not clear why you were given the band in the first place, since your starting BMI looks like it was about 35. It could just be that you are so close to a reasonable BMI that your body just won't cooperate  I know that you are really frustrated, so I truly hope that you can find someone who can advise you better.

    Protein Drinks

When I saw the nutritionist she walked me through every aspect of the post-op diet. As I understood it, our bodies can only absorb 20-25 grams of Protein at a time, so we should be sure to take that into account when we plan our supplements. She also said that I should be getting 60-80 grams of protein in a day. She said that for the first week, when I am on clear liquids, my body could handle the reduction in protein intake. But, she said, I'd have to start supplementing in week 2 or I'd lose my hair and start losing muscle mass. She was very, very clear that any protein supplement needed to have less than 5 grams of carbs UNLESS there was insoluble fiber to counteract them (that whole net carb thing). She said sugar carbs were a no-no in the protein supplements since you are already getting sugar carbs from the milk (or whatever) that they are often mixed with. This doesn't make me an expert or anything. But I'm a little obsessive so I wrote it all down for when I forget later

    Vote for the August name...

  15. I agree that you should be comforted knowing that the anesthesiologists ONLY job is to take care of you! Probably the most important thing that you can do to help them do an excellent job is to be VERY honest with them when you pre-op. Tell them EVERYTHING you take, whether it's legal or not, or "natural" such as Vitamins or herbs...absolutely everything. They are trained to watch for conflicts and can choose the best drugs for your surgery if they know the whole story. I hope that you rest easier and know that we are all supporting you!
  16. Hey Tim! I know that you are in pre-op right now and that you won't see this until later...but I want you to know that my very best wishes are being sent your way both for today and for your recovery.

    date 7th august

Congratulations! I am still hoping to get a date early in the month, but I'll be an August if I have to kick and scream on the lobby floor of the Drs. office. Will you guys bail me out if they cart me away?

    Sick time?Vacation time?

Fortunately, my work distinguishes between sick and vacation leave. My company considers this as a non-elective surgery since it is covered by insurance. This means that I will not need to use vacation time and can use sick leave instead. Sick leave can be used for any appointments too: doctor, dentist, shrink, etc. I'm pretty lucky.

    August Names???

The Augustos- “with gusto” means “with spirited enjoyment” The Ardent Augusts- This sounds a little uppity, but check out some of the definitions of ardent! This is what happens when you start poking around in a Thesaurus for things that mean win, achieve, triumph, etc. Having, expressive of, or characterized by intense feeling; passionate; fervent: an ardent vow; ardent love. (Or, how about an ardent bander?) Intensely devoted, eager, or enthusiastic: an ardent theatergoer; an ardent student. (oh, I’ll be devoted alright and I’m darned sure already eager and enthusiastic!) Burning, fiery, or hot: the ardent core of a star. (oh, wait, that’s an August Hottie!)
  20. Hi Claudine! I'm in Raleigh too and hoping to be an August with you. I'm seeing Dr. Moran and haven't had any troubles with him so far and I hope that I don't. I hear great things about Dr. Enochs so at least I know who to run to if things don't work out personally with Moran. I just did my bloodwork this am and all of the other stuff is already in his office. Hopefully I'll get a date by Tues. or Wed. and that the insurance company will give us the go-ahead.

I hope that we can chat a bit. It would be nice to have someone local to touch base with!

    Unjury shipping?

I had the strawberry sorbet in some cherry crystal light last night and it was good. I think it would be great in lemonade too, but I cannot imagine drinking it just mixed with Water. I tried the vanilla in milk and it tasted and smelled like baby formula. I plan to try the chocolate or chix Soup tonight.

    Unjury shipping?

My order came in 3 business days!

    anyone else

I can totally relate to you Mom! The only thing I'm pigging out on right now is beef, since I hear that I won't even be able to tolerate any of it for awhile after surgery...in any portion and any leanness. I like my cow  So we are having spaghetti with meat sauce, burgers on the grill, and steak, steak, steak. I completely understand the reason for my body not being able to handle beef early on, but I'll sure be crying inside.

Absolutely fabulous congratulations to both of you! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an early August date so, hopefully, I'll be right in there with you!
