Try the Atkins or SlimFast Low Carb shakes. You can cut them with milk so they won't be as sweet. Campbell's has a tomato soup-at-hand that is low sodium. I get mine at Wal-Mart.

OMG, so I have to tell you a funny story! After creating the roster for this board I noticed that Claudine was in the same town, Raleigh, NC. Turns out, she lives less than 2 miles away. We haven't met yet...but sure will soon. Anyhow, I have ordered just gobs of Protein samples. I had some duplicates and some that I am not willing to try at all (I have a thing about orange-flavored stuff.) I bagged up a few of these and put it on the porch for Claudine to swing by to pick up sometime. Some of these were sealed in little heat seal baggie-type things. Here's the fun part! So, this morning I actually opened my front door. We go in and out a side door usually. Strewn ALL over the porch is protein powder! There was chocolate, banana, vanilla. Probably about 4 different kinds from the mix of colors that were there. Seems the squirrels decided to give the stuff a try  I don't think they liked it because they only bit the corners off of the packages instead of tearing them to shreds to get every last morsel. Oh well...I guess they figured that since they didn't have any Crystal Light the stuff just wasn't worth it. Let's see if they can get the pull tape off of the Low Carb Slim Fast!!!

LOL rant... Well not really
Lanakila replied to Sasha2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here it is: Stay off that darned scale! I've seen a zillion posts in which people are like "I gained two pounds yesterday and managed to lose one today." You are fooling yourself, and sabotaging yourself too. You do NOT lose and gain pounds each day. There are so many variables in your weight each day that it is downright silly for you to believe that the number on the scale is a direct reflection of the day before. Quit kidding yourself! Believing that the day of "good" eating results in a pound lost, or that having that "bad" meal results in a pound gained the very next time you get on the scale is lying to yourself...or is ignorant in the very least. That's ignorant as in misguided...not ignorant as in stupid...sorry if that's confusing. Lay off the scale for a few days at a time, even if you cannot go a whole week between. Obsessing over a number each morning is promoting the same unhealthy practices that got you to this point. This journey is about reprogramming your mind, and your approach to living overall. It's also about learning to not hang your mood each day on what some device says. OK, I'm done now. Maybe I need some caffeine.... -
Since Lellow is in AU, when us in the States are settling down for our after work business she will be getting admitted! Yaaaaaayyyyyyy! Looks like she will officially be the FIRST!

New here, in need of Pre-Op diet HELP!!
Lanakila replied to jadeesmjk's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I thought this was interesting. You can make Protein Jello with the New whey bullets too. I got this from bariatriceating.com. Follow the directions for speed set on a small box of Jello. Adding two 42 gram New Whey protein bullets along with the ice. Ready to eat after a twenty minute chill. -
Heavy and lengthy menstrual cycle after banding?
Lanakila replied to lafrogura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Question!!! Here's the medical reason in a nutshell. Fat affects estrogen, which is a female hormone. When you lose fat, your bodies hormone levels naturally change. When you lose fat FAST, your hormones go out of whack. It's ok, and it will eventually even out, especially once you hit your sweet spot and start losing at a steadier rate. -
Can anyone recommend a multi-vitamin?
Lanakila replied to vkcse03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Centrum has a liquid and I think Geritol does too. Ask your pharmacist for suggestions. They are great resources and they actually like the opportunity to talk with patients. Nothing quite so boring as watching folks count pills! -
Are you exercising? If so, you may not be seeing a huge difference on the scale but may actually be decreasing in size. Remember that exercise will put muscle on you and although you are losing fat the scale can't tell the difference. Just ignore the scale and go with how you feel. I know, that's easier said than done, but at this point things should just be about improvements in your health overall, k? Hang in there!

My dietician set similar guidelines as dglaesers as far as carb/fat/protein goals. She actually said that those would be the goals for post-op too, so maybe a bigger part of the pre-op is to just start training your mind and to get through the screwups before so that you don't make yourself sick after?

You could treat yourself to a baby silver spoon, or maybe one of those souvenir sugar spoons. Then you could make up a fun story about why you are using it!

Ladies, check out the roster on this board and you'll see over 140 folks with their surgery dates listed. Let me know if you have trouble seeing the webpage! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f183/august-2008-bandster-roster-70695/

New here, in need of Pre-Op diet HELP!!
Lanakila replied to jadeesmjk's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The bullets are made by a company called New whey. They are like a large test tube full of liquid jello. They have 42g of Protein, but since your body cannot absorb that much at once it's a great option for post-op when you really cannot get much down at a time. I figure you get about 5g for each swallow. -
If you are in the wedding party you have to go...no question. If you are not in the wedding, then take the surgery date. I understand that you don't want to take time off of your new dream job, and you deserve to be a "better you" more than you need to show up somewhere. I got married last summer and one of my guests chose not to come to the wedding and visited a couple of months afterwards. It was a great opportunity for us to actually spend time together instead of seeing them for maybe one day...and them having to share us with everyone even with that.

Who's Getting Banded in August???
Lanakila replied to Tracyde730's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ouch! That 21g of protein is great...but that 44g of carbs (38 net) is nearly my entire days allowance! :eek:That just for the Banana Chocolate. The Mango one is even worse, with less protein and even more carbs. Too bad...I was really looking forward to it. -

So Gary...by Superbowl you could be imagining yourself actually being comfortable in a stadium seat! Although, with a team like yours I'm sure that no one really sits down except for during the game and halftime. Maybe we can set up a Band Fantasy team?

On to my NON-rant... I think that we should have a thread in which we can Celebrate our moves toward changes in our attitudes. Let's cheer each other on as we make better choices. These can be a: "Choose": Each time I went to the bathroom at the office today, I chose to walk the 'long' way back to my desk. or a "Normally I": I only had two bags of groceries today. Normally I would have pushed them to the car in the cart but today I decided to carry them.

'course!!!! Tell us all about yourself...and about how you are doing post-op (lucky you!)

I just got an email that Bariatric Eating is having a good sale on the Bullets. I've never tried them so I'm going to head out to GNC or somewhere like that to give them a try before I buy a bunch. I hear that they are really good and taste like liquid jello! I bought a bunch of samples from them a few weeks ago and the customer service has been great. www.bariatriceating.com -
At least the "wrecked my knee dancing" is probably a better story than my just plain old ate myself here  I'm Lanakila, 39, and I've been married for a year (July 14th). I am a native Hawai'ian-Chinese mix married to an almost life-long guy from Alaska. Funny how we met in North Carolina! We are both childless by choice, but have a full family of a pound doggie, four cats, and a marine tank-full. We enjoy geocaching together, I love reading, I'm an accomplished seamstress, and we are fans of all of the crime drama tv shows. We are very in to feeding songbirds in our yard and perennial gardening. We've only had our house 2 years, so the garden is still a work in progress. It will be great when I'm able to stoop and bend, and work for more than 10 minutes without huffing and puffing! He is a computer geek, and I'm a secretary at a university. I'll finish the final course for a Master's degree tomorrow  and will finish my thesis project in time to graduate in December. My degree will be in Instructional Technology. We're the folks who help teachers and faculty integrate technology into the classrooms and create online courses for distance education.

Holy Cow Chattie! You had a rockin' day! I can totally relate to the clothing thing. I've been shopping in catalogs because nothing in the stores fit, or they are too granny, or too maternity, or whatever. I put myself on a complete moratorium for buying ANY clothes until after surgery. I figure that new pretties will be a great, non-fattening reward. My hubby isn't getting banded but he plans to ride down the weight slide with me going the old-fashioned way. I've quit buying clothes for him too! Sad that I haven't had any normallys or chooses to post, but here's a tiny one from this morning. I chose to have a low carb SF instead of that giant bagel or fast food Breakfast that I've recently been "sneaking." Ha, SNEAKING! Who do I think I'm hiding that from, huh? I was SURE that the shake wouldn't take care of my hungries, but by the time I got to the turn for the place that I normally drive through, I was able to keep on going. Small Victories!

preop diet and slimfast
Lanakila replied to healthysue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go with the Slimfast LOW CARB, not the high protein, or the optima. You need to stay off of the carbs so that your body starts burning the fat instead of just running off of ready-made carbs.
