  1. Happy to help! Sliming: When you eat and the food gets stuck, your body makes extra mucus to try to lubricate whatever it is. Unfortunately, if it cannot go through the stoma in your stomach, it comes back up...mucus and all. This usually happens when you don't chew & chew. And when you think you've chewed enough...chew some more! PB: A "Productive Burp". You can relate it to vomiting, except that since whatever you are throwing up hasn't been digested at all there isn't any stomach acid. This usually happens when you overeat or eat too fast. In both cases, what comes up hasn't gone through your stoma (stomach passage in the middle of the band.) In both cases, you run the risk of tearing your stitches where they have wrapped part of your stomach around the band to keep it in place. So, other than a nasty event, it's also a physically harming one.
  2. I'm also not going to go gently on you, but I will give you a really warm and inspiring quote at the end! Shame on you! You know how much this surgery cost you, not only in money, but in risk to your life (anesthesia, etc). Let your body heal! Have a serious talk with your head about the difference between head hunger and actual hunger. Don't just depend on fills to keep you on track...you gotta work on the lifestyle too. Ok, that's enough of the harshness. Here's few lines that one of my fellows wrote on a goals board and I'm leaning on it every single day! 3. Ask your doctor before thinking about it any further, k?

    Just Began the Process

Welcome Sally! I hope that you find the boards here just as inspiring and supportive as I have. I'll be banded on August 28th and I cannot wait Lanakila

    Opening ceremony

Don't get us wrong...we COULD be watching it live...but sleep is more fun I love the silly names that folks have come up with for the different venues. The Birdnest is super! See my 'Naming your Band?' thread for an explanation of my propensity for nicknames
  6. So I got all busy this morning and got out of my routine. I left the house without taking my daily meds. Considering that 6 of the 9 pills I take everyday are for blood pressure, it's no wonder that I nearly puffed myself to death walking to my car at the end of the workday. You just wait until the 28th! My band and I are going to kick ass and be able to chuck those damned pills by Valentine's Day. That's my revenge. So there!

Ohhhh...that's why I feel like crap!

I took those suckers as soon as I got home 'cause I felt so badly. Well, ok, I didn't take the diuretic since I didn't want to be running the potty relay. When my blood pressure gets all hinky like that, it makes me soooooo tired. I hit the sheets by 9. My doc said that I'd only need to break one of my pills in half. Reading one of the other threads I see that folks generally have no trouble swallowing most reasonably sized pills and just cut the huge ones into halves or quarters. I'll be right alongside your dad with the yummy "medication meal"...but me and my band are gonna take care of that...
  8. DITTO! This is a great way to put it all in perspective. Can I borrow this? I wanna print it out all fancy and put it on my bathroom mirror!

Friday the 8th August - WEIGH IN!

OK folks! I'm not scheduled until the 28th, so no pre-op losses here yet. This will be my "start" weight, k? My hubby isn't getting a band, but has committed to lifestyle changes too. I figure I can track us both here to be able to keep a record. Who knows, maybe one day we'll have lost 200# between us 288.2#; hubby at 290.6 48.7 BMI; hubby at 42.9 I'll set a tiny goal for this next week; -3.2# by choosing foods more wisely and walking 3.0 miles on the treadmill.
  10. No way Dude! This is the perfect opportunity to pump up those numberssssssssss. I'm not until the 28th, so my first two weeks are going to be cut-n-paste!

    Fantasy Football Anyone?

Oh goodness...this isn't an exclusive club by any means! Open arms to all band buddies, especially potential fantasy rivals

    What Do I Bring?

Check with the hospital to see if they have wireless. If they do, take along a laptop if you have one. We wanna hear everything!!! Some things to NOT take with you: An entire purse. Pack the essentials in your overnight bag but leave home all of the extra credit cards, coupons, hand sanitizers and all that other junk we generally carry around. Any jewelry. Yes, that means your wedding rings too. And if they forgot to tell you, take your nail and toe polish off. The pulse/O2 reader can't read through polish.
  14. I figure that this surgery is costing me & someone else more than $10,000. If my Dr. says that chewing gum causes the swallowing of excess air and can contribute to stretching the pouch...then I'm damned sure going to listen. No point in putting myself through surgery just to screw things up with some freakin' chewing gum. Same thing with the straw. As for the coffee and tea, if the dietician says that caffeine is both an irritant to the lining of your stomach (since it's not full of food all the time now), and that it is also a diuretic...then that cup of coffee just isn't that important anymore. This is a HUGE investment in myself and as long as I can eat tasty, healthy food, then I'm ok giving up these little things.

    Fantasy Football Anyone?

We've been using Yahoo! for the last few years. The site seems much more stable than a few of the others that I've used in the past, although that was quite a few years ago. I'm glad that you two answered. I was starting to think I'd have to leave the boards at football season if no one understood my "fantasy life."

    Fantasy Football Anyone?

    Moe? Anyone?
  17. Getcha one of those "wand" blenders and you can puree pretty much whatever you like. Just remember to add liquids as needed until it is mushy enough. You can have your egg salad that way! I'd just mix the eggs and some skim milk and whatever seasonings you want. Trust me, when you're hungry, you'll get pretty darned creative about mushing things together :biggrin2:
  18. :thumbup::sneaky: Aussies First...bring it on buddies!

    Lanakila - you're a gem!

I must admit...I've swapped out addiction for another. Now I troll the boards all day to find new "recruits!" Our little community has filled out so nicely that I just want everyone to join in the fun  Roheryn, being on the other side of the rock, keeps things running when I nod off

    Good luck really Lucky 8's

Eight is considered a lucky number in Chinese culture because it sounds like the word "prosper" or "wealth". From wikipedia Here's wishing all of the Lucky 8/8/08's a happy b-day and a prosperous life filled with a wealth of happiness!

    Newbie (to August bandsters)

It doesn't look like anyone on that particular date. At the top of the August forum there are two "Sticky" posts. On one of them you can get the info for how to include one of those fancy August All Stars banners in your signature. On the other, you can see who all we know is being banded this month. PrincessLuzaLot got done on the 1st in Toronto. There's also four others from Canada...but it's a HUGE country

    Feeling like a Fraud

I hope that this won't sound too harsh, but I think that you need to have a serious conversation with yourself. It sounds like you are feeling deprived and that causes "head hunger". If you cannot work around it yourself, you really need to find a lapband support group or at least one that is specific to WLS. I do not recommend OA at this point because you need to have counsel with people who will understand your specific situation. A fill will help, but the choices that you "plan" to make are not going to be ok even when you "can" eat those foods. If you don't get enough support from the local support group, make an appointment with a mental health professional who specializes in weightloss. They work wonders and can get down to the nitty-gritty with you about how you can work through mourning the loss of food. It's natural, and it sucks!
