If you vomit as a reaction to a drug you need to let the doctors know that! When they ask you if you have any drug allergies, your first answer should be "yes, morphine makes me vomit." There are too many classes of pain drugs available for you to have to take one that makes you sick! If an antibiotic/cold medicine/birth control pill/cough syrup made you barf, you'd ask for something else, wouldn't you? Remember...you are the customer. If they cook your steak wrong, send it back to the kitchen

Tell the Truth, Did you cheat AT ALL on your Preop Diet?
Lanakila replied to Ineedalapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So, I was thinking... A large part of having this surgery done is for us to have to change the way we think about eating. We all know what we should eat, and how much, but the band "keeps us honest" in a way that our willpower has always failed us. We also know that the mental part of our adjustment is going to be harder than the physical part. As part of retraining our minds, let's not "cheat" any longer. This is not to say that we won't make poor choices (note I said "poor" and not "bad") and have foods of the types or portions that are not healthy. The point is for us to stop judging in black and white. "Cheat" and "Bad" and "Guilt" are how we got into this situation in the first place. Let's send those terms packing and move in some less judgemental terms like: I made a "poor" choice, and I could (note I didn't say "should")have made a "better" one. I see so much guilt on this post and I'm sad. Let's all work through this together, and start practicing a new way of thinking to go with our new life! -
Forced to pay for $300 "package" from Silver Cross in Joliet?
Lanakila replied to trinidad83's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to pay a $250 program fee. The doctors office said that it was to cover educational materials and the costs of the "optional" support group. Insurance didn't cover it, but I was able to claim it under my flexible healthcare spending account as an unreimbursable medical expense. -
Yaaaaayyyyy Nina! You worked really hard to finally get everything lined up. Congratulations on your victory!

OMG...I'm crying for you! Way to gooooooooooo!

Mmmmmmmm...morphine.... Morphine, good friend :crying: I like to think I can tolerate alot of pain, but I'm just not interested this time. I hope that they give me the good stuff and that I can just knock out all night. I have to stay in the hospital overnight, so good drugs will be helpful in getting me a good night's rest in a strange bed.

Bryan, I'm getting banded on the 28th and won't see the surgeon again until the 22nd. Nothing has been said about a pre-op diet, but I'm terrified of an "open" surgery, so I'm going to do a one-meal then liquids version starting next week. I was lucky and insurance stuff went quickly, but there are sure alot of people who have to suffer terribly and jump through rings of fire before they finally get approval! Good job to you for hanging in there. Hope to see you on the boards often. I've found lots of useful information, great support, and just plain fun folks who are sharing this exciting journey too!

I'd LOVE the file please. Will you send it to me at HWNSCIGIRL1@yahoo.com. If anyone else just wants to send me funnies and such, you are welcome to use that address to!

I won't get my band until the 28th, so I can't speak to the shrinking of the liver question. I DO want to know where you got that caramel Atkins shake though? Sounds right up my alley! If it's a recipe that you use with a vanilla or such, I'd love the recipe :crying: Welcome to the board!

Welcome Back! It's a huge bummerooney that they didn't give you your pain scripts at your pre-op. I'll be sure to learn from your pain Keep us posted on how you are doing. We're here for you :crying:

How many carbs???????????
Lanakila replied to wrestlingmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dietician, who specializes in wls, recommended 50-70g protein and no more than 50g carbs a day. She said that when I am properly restricted, and when I eat the proteins first, keeping the carbs down to 50g shouldn't be a problem unless I'm eating white carbs such as white bread and refined sugars. -

What is the difference between REALIZEBand and regular band?
Lanakila replied to jessicakolman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the others. The only real difference is that they are different brands. There are slight differences, such as the port profile and such, but those differences are pretty much just a personal choice. Also... Dr. Joseph Moran does both Lapband and Realize and he's right near Rex. I'm having him install an Allergan band on the 28th. http://alasurgery.com/ -
Teens & Lap Band Surgery
Lanakila replied to Miss Undastood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IMHO, any child under the age of maybe 17 or so should only be allowed to have a band IF their parents are of average weight. If obesity is an epidemic in the household, the child will learn very quickly how to "eat around" the band! It makes no sense to allow a child to be subjected to a serious surgery without the necessary support at home. -
Look here Hottie! Don't be stealin' my man Rivers. We worked hard over here at NC State to raise him up right! I have no team loyalties, but I'm a fan of certain players. Works out very well for fantasy, no?

Hi Larry! First of all, congratulations on your decision to choose a healthier life. I hope that you will continue to visit the site because I have found soooooo much info on here that has been comforting. My initial consult with the surgeon was very simple and only took about 20 minutes. I had filled out about a zillion forms before going to the office, so I was able to get out of the waiting room quickly! See if you can do the same because it really freed me up to concentrate on what I wanted to ask! The actual consult went like this: Nurse did BP and temperature check, and verified a few, relevant things from my history form. Took off clothes except for undies and wore gown open in the front. Doc came in and asked routine history questions, then asked if I had any questions. Doc had me lay down and he did an abdominal exam, pressing-"any discomfort"-so forth. Oddly, he listened to my gut with his steth! He listened to my heart and lungs. He again asked if I had any questions. Since he had shown the band in the seminar, he didn't do it again. He told me what tests he wanted to have run, and why (be sure to ask why), said he was confident that my insurance would approve, and then he was off! Write down your questions before you go because you won't remember them when you are there...you'll be too excited

1 Day til Liquid Diet... 8 Til Surgery
Lanakila replied to maleliz777's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Is your liquid diet "clear" liquids? If not, you can have Soups like tomato, or strained "cream of". It's not going to be easy, but think of it as the work you have to do to make sure that you don't end up having "open" surgery because your liver is in the way. Hang in there...and vent all you like here on the boards! We're here for you -
Curious! I was told that boiling the protein, or getting it near that hot, was not good. I know that the Unjury is very, very specific that you use only warm water to make their chicken soup and I seem to recall another brand saying that too. I had not thought about making some kind of warm cocoa/steamed milk flavored drink. I'll have to look in to it and see if I can do it and keep the protein proper.

August 13th - the 1st Day of my NEW Life!!
Lanakila replied to Donna Makowski's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know that this is just about the last possible minute, but you can get the 25g bullets at some Wal-Mart stores. They are $1.97 each and they only carry fruit punch. Since you have to drink as much liquid as you can tolerate, putting this in your water or crystal light is a good way to get your protein in at the same time. -
Argh...my surgery got pushed back!!!
Lanakila replied to g00dbyefat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I feel sympathy for the doctor, but I know that this is disappointing for you. We'll be here to cheer you on through two more weeks of Atkins...and will throw an even bigger cheer your way when you finally get to bandland. Hang in there sweetie! -
Let's lure a few more fools into the lair! Anyone wanna take on me and my loverboy Philip Rivers? I've set up a league, The Banditos, on Yahoo! Sports. It is a standard fantasy league, as I wanted to keep this a free play. The League ID# is 388297 and the Password is Scubaisadog. Scuba is actually my dog The live draft will be held online on Saturday, August 23rd at 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific. That's the best time I could get...sorry. It is absolutely fine if you have non-LBT friends who would like to join the league. The more the merrier, but we have a 10 team limit, k?

My surgeon required me to attend the informational seminar before I could get an appointment with him. Once he agreed to do the surgery, he required: Chest x-ray Standard Bloodwork 5 year weight history (my ins required) Nutritionist Consult Psychiatry Consult EKG (I have really high, poorly controlled blood pressure) I don't see him again until 6 days before sx, and up until now he has not prescribed a pre-op diet.

Go to "Edit Options" on the very right menu. Choose "Edit Signature". Delete everything! Copy this and paste it into your signature then save! So that you can see the code, I had to put in some [Delete this] stuff, or it would have just put the picture. Actually delete these parts so that you WILL get the picture!
