I like the grinning part! I might be miserable after surgery, but I sure plan to grin for the rest of my life Make yourself sip at least a bit of water every 15 minutes, even if you don't feel like it. Dehydration will be bad, bad, bad.

I can't believe that your time has come already! So many of you are regulars here and I've felt like we've been "waiting" together. Go get 'em!

Anyone trying this without ANY fills?
Lanakila replied to bandolina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow...this is REALLY UGLY! What's your problem you jerk? This site is for support, sharing and, yes, even debate. You certainly have the right to disagree, but you do not have the right to be verbally assaultive about it! -
Great 40g Protien Drink
Lanakila replied to tx girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DON'T FORGET! Your body can only absorb about 20-25 grams of protein at a time. If you are going to use this drink, be sure to split it throughout the day. No sense paying for protein that isn't going to be absorbed! -
Bon Voyage Stace!!! Spooky will be ready for The Mommy to get back :wink2:

You need to make sure that you are cleared by your doctor before you eat anything other than Clear liquids. The strained egg drop is considered clear, but the eggs aren't generally allowed (whether they are pureed or not) until your mushy or soft foods stages. I think that you are allowed the tomato soup when you get to full liquids, but the cream of chicken must be strained. The restriction to clear liquids is to keep your stomach from contracting in order to digest. Clear liquids don't need that. The transition to full liquids is just to give your stomach a "tiny" bit to have to digest...and so on, and so forth. If you push things and your stomach is contracting too early, you will pull your stitches and that can lead to slippage. Follow your doctor's orders and ask questions if you are unclear! Remember, everyone's doctor is different so what they prescribe for your diet may be different from others here.

Be Careful What Your Drinking (Calories)
Lanakila replied to Ineedalapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree that alot of the problems that people have stem from the fact that they are "eating around their band." The most common thing I've seen on the boards is people thinking it's ok to drink clear juices. You can get away with that when you are first banded because you simply cannot get alot of calories in and can't actually eat. Once you get to mushies, the juice needs to cut way back. It's FULL of sugars! Sure, they are "natural", but they are still calories. Save your calories for those grams of Protein and non-starchy veggies. -
Ladies, Did You Get To Wear Your "Skivies" During Surgery?
Lanakila replied to Ineedalapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOVE me my Diva cup. Let me know if they tell you that it's ok. I didn't ask the surgeon because I didn't want to have to explain what it was :wink2: -
It's natural to be nervous, so don't feel like you shouldn't be. You can take comfort in knowing that the anesthesiologist has only ONE job...and that is to focus on you. They are great! Be sure to ask as many questions as you like, and tell them you are nervous. They are in a helping and caring profession and they will be very reassuring. Think about what a wonderful change this will be for your life. Think of the exciting things that you will be able to do! You'll be able to sit on a picnic blanket and get up gracefully. You'll be able to see a movie without worrying about the seats. You'll be able to dine (yes, dine) in a restaurant without worrying about whether the seats have arms on them. Take a few minutes to read some of the wonderful threads about what people won't miss about being obese. Look at the before and after threads. Keep your chin up...and know that we are all here for you and that we understand

Jo Ann, I sure hope that your SIL stayed away! All you need is stomach ick when you get home:thumbdown: By the time you read this, you'll be in BandLand. Hope you had a great trip!

Ditto...except that I'm the 28th

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I'm actually looking at my hubby like this too. Sure, I now look at everyone when I'm out shopping, but when I'm home and my guy is tucking his shirt under his dunlap and straining to button his pants I think "I wish he would get this too!" I really hope that anyone that I know who is as seriously overweight as I am will see me on the road to success and ask me for ALL of the details!

Best wishes to everyone going on Tuesday. We'll all see you on the other side! Be sure to come back soon and tell us EVERYTHING. I'm not going until the 28th so I wanna hear...alot!

David, you are an absolute doll! I'm on my third marriage after having chosen singledom for 9 years. I'm soooo happy that I took the time to get to know myself better. As my wedding statements said when I got married last year "maybe I had to find all of the wrong people so that I would immediately know the right one." My hubby adores me no matter what I look like, how temperamental I am (I have bi-polar disorder, treated), and how many cats I came with even though he is a dog person! Just like with my weight, I sure made a bunch of poor choices and false starts. I sure thought, so many times, that this would be the way/one. Hang in there everyone...success is on the way!

Ladies, Did You Get To Wear Your "Skivies" During Surgery?
Lanakila replied to Ineedalapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm crazy irregular so I asked my doctor in advance. They said that I'd have to be naked, but that a tampon would be absolutely fine. They said that I've have the opportunity to potty anyway before the surgery, so I'd really only have to worry about it for an hour or so. -
Freaking out!!!! I need some help/advice please!!
Lanakila replied to skinnyjenny08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your doctor tomorrow and see what they say. I agree that severe diet changes can throw your body off completely. I respectfully disagree that you should not be on BC. That is a call that only your doctor should make. I think that it's one of those things that varies depending on your doctor, just like we see so many varieties of pre-op diets being ordered. -
I cheated....now what?
Lanakila replied to kgranite79's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kim, I think that you'll be fine. You chose to eat something that was actually very reasonable. I think that the more important thing that you will need to think about is why you felt that you couldn't stick with your diet in the first place. I'm not pestering you at all...I'm just suggesting that you troubleshoot the mindset so that you will be ready if this desire happens again when any kind of deviation from a post-op food plan will actually be harmful to you. As far as the chicken goes, congratulate yourself for choosing something healthy! -
Calling all who are lactose in tolerant!!!!

GNC has several soy options and they have a guarantee that you can return them if you don't like them. -
Welcome Back Dunna!!!!!!! Congrats to both of you on your trip to BandLand

Weightx, have you tried the protein bullets? If you aren't a fan of the shakes this might be a better alternative for you. I like the New whey bullets in fruit punch flavor. Some people can drink them straight, but I have to mix it into my Crystal Light. Bon Voyage to BandLand!

Hi Everbody, I survived surgery on the 12th!

You are correct. No Advil, no Aleve! -
Started my 10 day liquid diet today!!!

Hi e60! Do you have a band date this month too? I'm being done on the 28th! -
Some people have been really successful mixing the unjury unflavored into those foods. I saw where someone was hooked on the strawberry Unjury mixed into her yogurt. Personally, I've ditched most of the powders and prefer the New Whey bullets in fruit punch. I pour them into my crystal light drinks.

If you'd like to go for obscurity on the "fuller" theme, how about "Bucky" for F. Buckminster Fuller? He designed the most famous geodesic domes, such as the one at the Chicago Worlds Fair and the dome at Epcot is built on his design.

Welcome! I would call your surgeon to make sure that you should be eating those bits in the soup. The whole idea behind staying on liquids is to keep your stomach from "squishing" around to digest solids. The liquids just go right through and keep your stomach from all those contractions. I wouldn't be worried about your having slipped so much as I would be worried that your post-op eating instructions are quite clear enough. Also, watch those whey drinks. Your body cannot absorb more than about 25g of Protein in a sitting, so spread that whey out to make sure that you are actually keeping what you are drinking instead of half of it just being wasted instead of used.
