    I'm in the hospital now.
If all goes to plan I'm first on the list tomorrow. Only downside, so far, is that I requested a private room (as my private health insurance covers it) but none available so I'm sharing with a lady who speaks no English and I don't speak whatever her Eastern European language is so sign language and broken French it will have to be.

I think going on previous surgeries I’ve had the Fluid from the iv bags have to get out of your system. I had surgery on Monday and I was up 12 pounds when I came home from the hospital. Almost all of that is gone now. Hoping it starts going down for real now 😊

I was miserable. I'm on day 6 and it's better. Mine is less than 1,000 calories a day and no more than 50 grams carbs, 2 Meal Replacement shakes. They sent home some recipes and frozen dinner recommendations, too.

Day 1 morning I was nauseous to the point I almost went home from work. And bathroom breaks for loose stools were numerous. I felt like I'd done a colonoscopy prep!
Day 2 no nausea, still numerous bathroom trips.
Day 3, numerous bathroom breaks in the morning, but by afternoon these had stopped.
Day 4, a few extra bathroom breaks but none in the afternoon.
Day 5 we were going to go on an easy hike but the drive is about 2 hours and, of course, no bathrooms on the trail. So we opted to stay home and I'm glad. A few extra bathroom trips.
Today, Day 6, still a couple extra trips, but I'm sure tired of it.
For food, leafy green salads with ground turkey; hard boiled eggs; chicken on greens; that type of thing. Green Beans, not my favorite but they'll do.

You've got this! I read someone say the 1st 3 days are the hardest and I'll agree with that. But it does get easier.

hello if I can tell you anything LEARN TO SIP sipping is your friend. Set a goal to sip 1oz cup five times a day. Set up sipping challenges. You will need this after surgery. I just had surgery last Monday.

I think the drugs are too new to know about long term impact on health and how the body will cope after stopping injections and I don't want to wait for more studies before I take my health and weight under control. I was on other weight loss drugs from my doctor many years ago that did not work long term and also caused other issues (insomnia and rapid heartbeat).
I know for me the surgery is the best option as this a life long change I want and need to make. Plus I don't have to pay for the surgery as it is covered by the national insurance here.

It's a serious decision, for sure. My plan was to try the meds first. While waiting for insurance to approve, I continued to further my research. I realized there really aren't solid empirical/blind studies that show potential risks with long term use. Some of these meds are new, and others still don't have reliable studies long term. I realize the meds work for many, but once discontinued the weight returns. I know a few people who had to stop the meds; one in particular was on Wegovy for several months and couldn't stop vomiting.
In the 1990's, I used phen-phen for weight loss. Later, studies revealed that drug was linked to serious heart issues. So I've learned to be pretty careful about weight loss meds. Everyone can choose their line in the sand. For me, this surgery is solely to stop my complex health issues from progressing by addressing persistent inflammation (the weight loss will be an added plus!).
We're all different, and I respect everyone's decision for their journey. For me, this decision has been a 7-month process, and I needed every bit of it to research and feel comfortable with it all. I'm hopeful for the future, but I also know that the surgery doesn't end my obesity. It's just the beginning of a lifelong journey for however long I have left on this planet. I wish you all the best! 😊

I am 54 and had the sleeve done on 4/12/2023. I am 2.5 months post op and have lost 43lbs. I was concerned with age as far as losing weight as fast as some of the people who are younger, but i seem to be right on track. I was also concerned that menopause might cause slow weight loss. I like many people on here will say I wish i had done the surgery sooner!!!! Best decision ever to have the surgery! I do not regret it one bit.

I am so sorry, @Layla1222. That's so hard. I don't know if this is an option, but I'm in the program at Cleveland Clinic's Bariatric & Metabolic Center. My surgeon is well known and respected. If you're looking for another opinion, I would highly recommend. I have some serious health issues, which is why I chose this program. My surgery is in a few weeks, but so far I'm incredibly impressed with the specialists. I wish you all the best, and I'm praying for you now... Don't hesitate to reach out. 💟

I am 41 and today marks 8 weeks post-op from my bypass. It was my choice to go the bypass route from jump and my surgeon agreed with my decision. Yes in the very beginning, you are not only limited on what to eat, but even the capacity to eat (or even the desire). It would be the same with the sleeve either way because of the swelling the small pouch can only hold so much. It gets easier as time passes.
To date I have not had any dumping issues. I know it is not the same for anyone regardless of which surgery, but I have tolerated all foods I've tried to date. I have been cleared for basically everything in moderation, still trial and error as I haven't tried it all yet. I have eaten out several times since about 4 weeks post-op and most places easily have things that can be ordered or slightly modified to suit our needs. Soups or a Protein and veg are fairly easy to find on most menus. Grilled chicken sandwich minus bread with a side salad. Breakfast is even easier. I either end up with a to go container for another meal or two, or my boyfriend eats extra, lol.
I do enjoy cooking and have had no issues with finding recipes to make my own. Flavor and variation is key. You can easily keep your cookbooks and find some substitutions for higher fat/carb/sugar items. I think it's much easier now than many years ago to find healthier alternatives.
And while I know many people can be successful with the sleeve, I personally know a number of people who have had more regain. Some regret not having the bypass, or have gotten revisions years later.
