Hi ChewChew! I, too, am told to do the 2 week liquid diet x2 weeks to shrink the liver. They are also doing a liver biopsy on me at that time while my surgeon is there (well, plus I have liver dx.). You're right about everyone having such different plans. Interesting. I wish you all the best! And congratulations to you as well! 💟

Hi Aimee! I have surgery one week after you. We have some things in common. I, too, worked in healthcare. I retired from nursing many years ago to get my degree in counseling. So LOTS of research on surgery options...for years. It's finally good to move forward. I have two friends who had the sleeve almost 2 years ago. Watching their incredible journey is inspiring. I start my liquid diet on July 13th (x2 weeks). I'll look forward to hearing about your progress. Feel free to reach out. Hopefully we'll be back here to share our wonderful experience. 😊 I'm excited, too. I'm a young-ish grandma (62), and I'd like to have my health reverse in as many ways as possible. I wish you well!

@ltdaniel and @RedE2goAimee and @SleeveYouLater (love your username!)... Welcome! @ltdaniel, are you the first in our group? July 3rd will be here before you know it. You'll do great! How is your SF / low sodium diet going?

Welcome, @DeeLCee! You made me think. I hope to bypass that buyers remorse and replace it with gratefulness, at least that's what I'm telling myself. But I realize this is all new and we're in the process of changing our mindset. I haven't begun packing up clothes yet. My surgery is in late July. I wasn't planning to discard of my current sizes until after surgery. I imagine myself trying on clothes and hoping they no longer fit,,,and then remove them from my closet. I think that will bring much satisfaction. But that's me. I can also understand the desire to take the time now to clean out the closet. As my surgery date gets closer I may want to start getting rid of things. 🤷‍♀️ I'm still trying to wrap my mind around smaller sizes. I haven't put too much thought into that since my main motivator is getting the surgery to improve my health. Getting into smaller sizes will certainly be the bonus, and I should start getting excited about that! Those are my thoughts. I wish you all the best on your surgery - you're a week before me. 😊 💟

I'm glad you're working on staying positive, @Metamul. I'm still waiting on my surgery date, but what @Arabesque said about not failing is something I've been hearing a lot. I have two friends who did the sleeve. One lost at a rapid rate from the beginning (he had more to lose) and the other was much slower. A year later they are both thrilled with their results, but if you would have told the slower "loser" that she'd lose 100 lbs I'm not sure she would have believed you. She's still losing, btw. Hang in there. You didn't gain 15, you didn't stay the same. You lost 15 lbs. Even with hypothyroid, I believe as your body heals and gets used to your new metabolism you'll do great. Please keep us posted. This is a good forum, the best I've found. You'll find reliable info here and people who are kind to provide feedback. 😊

Welcome! I was told to speak with my PCP about one of my current meds, but the other two meds I was told were fine to continue taking. Not sure about which vitamins are better for nausea. Good questions! It's nice to meet you, @Vlynn57.

@FifiLuxand @NYCxCoco, I'm envious you're able to eat anything during these two weeks. I'm not starting my liquid diet for another 3 weeks, but there's no eating on my plan. I'm wondering if that's because I'm getting a liver biopsy during my sleeve surgery - they mentioned the liquid diet is for a liver cleanse. Or are all these two-week liquid (mostly) diets a liver cleanse for everyone? Not sure. Looking forward to your updates. I know you'll do great! I'm a few weeks behind you.

Hello and welcome! Your surgery day is coming soon. I envy you, actually. My date is July 27th. Looking forward to connecting with you! I also have some physical limitations and it's my health issues that motivated me to the sleeve. I was on the fence for a while on which surgery to have, but I settled on this one so far. Keep us posted on how you're doing. You CAN do this. You deserve to do this. You and I (and others) will be returning here in weeks and months to come to declare how happy we are we followed through. You got this! 🙌

    Update about gastric sleeve complications

I totally understand your concern. Sounds like something you'll need to address with your surgeon and specialist. I have some serious health issues that caused me to second guess this journey, but I learned that WLS will benefit me long term. All the best!

Welcome, @FifiLux! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure many of us can relate to your story. I know I can. I totally agree that google searches get a bit scary and confusing. I find Facebook groups (I've tried two) to also be less than optimal. I'm new also, and I've found that this group has been friendly, responsible with reliable info, and generous with sharing. So helpful! I hope you'll find it the same. Also, I think many places require a two week pre-op liquid diet, but I would check with your program or surgeon's office. I'm getting my surgery from a large clinic in the midwest. I was told to follow this diet as a liver cleanse (I have liver disease and they're doing a biopsy). But this diet seems customary for many. Your surgery is coming sooner than mine (July 27th). All the best!

Hi @bluemather! Congratulations on all the achievements. I'll have to try the peanut butter to see if it curbs my appetite. Thanks for the tip. As far as the loose skin, I'm with you; I'm not looking forward to that, either. But I'll take it if it means I drop this weight. Keep rocking it! 🙌

Great to hear,@NCL04321! Having a good support system means the world - I'm fortunate to have the same. I'll look forward to hearing more about your journey. I am so ready to get this surgery. Btw, I grew up in IL, but I've lived in IN for much of my adult life. Have a beautiful day!

Hi NanaNette. I'm 62, and I feel the same. Lots of prayers here as well. My surgery is July 27th. It's nice to connect! Are you getting the sleeve or gastric bypass (or other)?

Hi NCL04321! It's nice to meet you. Yes, I'm 62. I haven't had surgery yet (sleeve scheduled for July 27th). I wanted to reach out to say hello and wish you well. How are you doing so far?

Happy Birthday, BillOh!!! Way to go on your continued weight loss. Retirement is just around the corner. Enjoy!

    Hello!

Hi there! I'm pretty new here as well. I appreciate being here, and it's a pleasure to meet you all. Yaya and Flowergirl, I can relate on a few levels. I join some of you in the grandparent category. I'd like to keep up with my little darlings and be here for them. I've been learning a lot from the seasoned group here and I'm grateful to those of you willing to stick around and share. I ruled out WLS 2+ years ago for, well, weight loss. But in January, liver disease and increasing health issues brought me back. If you would have told me a year ago I would have been motivated by health reasons I wouldn't have believed you. At age 62, it's time to act. I'm scheduled for sleeve surgery on July 27th. I wish you all well in your journey!

Complex Health Issues & Physical Limitations

Arabesque, thank you for sharing. This is incredibly encouraging. Congratulations on your achievements. Exercise snacking... I never heard that term before. I'll remember that. I also discussed the occasional use of steroids with my surgeon, who also said it will be fine, especially used short term. Have a beautiful day!
