I got referred to a bariatric clinic back in September from my PCP as part of a "this might help with your other conditions" plan. The clinic and the nutritionist have been very helpful in explaining things to me, and allowing me to work at my own pace without pressure. I decided in March that surgery was the route that I wanted to pursue for my long-term health. Following my late March appointments, and discussions with my wife, I've opted "sooner rather than later," and I just have to connect with the clinic to start scheduling appointments.
On the flip side of this, I actually have a rather contentious relationship with weight loss surgery due to past experiences through my mother. She had gastric bypass back in 2005, and while the surgery was effective, she had pretty catastrophic leaking that took two years, numerous ER visits, and multiple follow up surgeries to resolve.
