Yes, just stick to your program! It happens to all of us. Just make sure you are hitting your daily protein and water goals. Stalls can last days/weeks so be patient 😊

My insurance paid and my out-of-pocket was $1900. I have BCBS of AZ. It was 7 1/2 months from my initial surgeons visit until surgery day. I had to do 6 months of supervised weigh-ins and a few evaluations. It flew by pretty quickly.

If you chew it really well you shouldn’t have to purée it. My nutritionist said chew until puréed (chew about 25 times) because no one wants to eat puréed meat 😂 Just make sure it’s moist and not dried out.

My incisions were tender for about a month. Your internal stitches take about a month+ to fully dissolve while the incision sites on your belly that are glued shut take about 2-3 weeks to heal.

Had the same thoughts right up until the day of surgery. My urge to be healthier outweighed all my worries the day of surgery. Now, I am so happy I went through with it. I’m down 48 lbs (33lbs since surgery 2 months ago) and feel so much better mentally and physically. I can ride a bike again and walk faster and farther than I’ve been able to in years. Also I’m off a few meds I no longer need. Whatever your final decision is, I wish you the best!!!

My surgeons office told me I can have them as long as they’re sugar free but they may not sit well in my new tummy.

Hi Cheryl, my pre-op appt consisted of going over the surgery (I had the sleeve) risks/side effects, expected hospital stay, meds to have filled prior to surgery, pre-op photos, weigh-in and follow up appointments to be scheduled after surgery. Hope this helps!

That’s really low! Just like others, I was told to stay around 800 calories a day. I consume about 500-600 a day at 6 weeks post op mostly due to not being terribly hungry and of course the restriction. I couldn’t function on 300 a day 😬

Hi there, I am just over 3 weeks post-op and can only eat about half a 5.3oz yogurt so I save it so I can have it later, usually before bed. Eggs I toss as they dry out when reheated.

My surgeon stated that it’s not necessarily the chewing that causes pain…he said the stomach is still swollen and healing and that’s why it can be painful. He also said it can be painful to eat pureed and soft food the first few days starting them but said as the swelling goes down it gets easier to eat and is less painful. He was totally right! I’m 19 days post-op and can get everything I’ve been eating down for the past few days with no problem. Hopefully it will get easier for you each day!

It seems pretty common prior to surgery. Not too sure about the ultrasound and stool sample but every doctor is different. I had to have bloodwork, an EKG and X-rays done prior to surgery.

I’m not sure as I take a bunch of tiny bites over about 20 minutes. I weigh my food so I have an idea of when to stop. I know I can get about 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of food in and I’m full. Fullness hits me about 15 minutes after I’ve stopped eating. Not once have I gotten sick or felt like I over ate. Maybe try weighing your food?

Glad to hear I’m not the only one. I have been making my husband and daughter dinner every night and find it easy to do. Although I want to eat it it helps me learn to control my eating. My husband has offered to make them dinner so I don’t have to cook but I want them to have healthy meals and not just hotdogs and chicken strips (which I just tossed out) lol.

Just a few hours after surgery I was walking the hospital halls. It actually felt good to walk and it helped with the gas pain.

Hi there, I had a lot of the same worries but now I am glad I did it. For me I was in a bit of pain until about day 4-5 but Tylenol helped. I would rather go through sleeve surgery again then get my tonsils removed lol. Been there, done that at 30 and that was much more painful than this surgery. As for drinking, by day 5, I could take small drinks without discomfort and by day 10 I could take normal pre-surgery drinks of everything. I’m just starting on the puréed/soft stuff and so far can get about 1-2oz of yogurt and scrambled eggs down without a problem. Incisions healed nicely and I have so much more energy than I did two weeks ago. I’ve lost 17lbs in 14 days :) I talked myself out of surgery for 3 years…wish I hadn’t. It took me 6 months before my insurance approved me. My surgery was scheduled for 5 weeks after insurance approval. Everyone’s insurance has different requirements. Self-pay is usually much, much quicker.

Hi there, I don’t know about sugar-free candy but you can always ask your surgeon to see if they are okay with it. Have you tried broths, soups, popsicles and flavored water? I really like water with raspberry lemonade crystal light. Soups definitely helped me get through my hunger pains. I also love popsicles!

Hi Dan, I think it’s great you are asking these questions. She is luckily to have someone like you watching out for her well-being and helping her along with this process. I suffer from anxiety, major depression and lupus and take meds daily. I can tell you that I did have a about 4-5 days after surgery where I did fall into a depressive state. I truly believe it was my hormones. Most of what I was suffering in my depressive state were questions like “why did I do this?” and the “what-if’s this it or that go wrong” and “will I ever be able to eat or drink normally?” type questions. From my research, it seems a lot of sleeve patients experience some depression after surgery, but for most of us it resolves quickly. Helping her through this period is so important. My husband was helpful and constantly told me how proud of me he was and how strong I was to have gone through this. That helped me get through those bad days. Hope this helps you and your wife! :)

Don’t give up! You have made it so far and should be very proud of yourself! I had to do 6 months of weight-ins too and I will tell you the last two months go by pretty quickly.

I’m 8 days post op and healing well. Had liquid stitches and most of them are almost completely peeled away. Not much pain at all unless I bend too far over but now it’s much easier to do. My husband told me he can tell I have lost weight. He can see it in my face. 😊 Since surgery I am down 12lbs in 8 days. Total lost since I started my approval for VGS is 34lbs. I’m a happy camper! Just wish I can move on to soft foods already. Getting tired of Protein Shakes and broth lol

Yes you definitely can. I have lupus and take my pills daily along with all the pills the surgeon has me on. It’s hard to swallow them right after surgery but within a few days they go down like normal.
