  3. Hi everyone... After reading all the diffient stories I had to post.. I had my band put in on the 18th of August... and on the 19th while in the hospital they gave me mushy food. I was not allowed to be released until they were sure I could tolerate 2 mushy meals... I was instructed to consume 64 oz of liquid and 45 to 60 grams of Protein a day. My band was stitched to my stomach with 2 stitches and 4 knots and my incisions were stitched on the inside and glued on the outside and then covered with stiri-strips... Consuming the 64 oz of liquid a day is a real bitch... feel like I am drowning... Protein shakes have been a life saver... I was told to make sure that the shakes had no sugar and no to low carbs... I have my post op appointment with surgeon tomorrow... wish me luck.. Jo Ann
  4. Well went in on Monday the 18th as scheduled at 10am... But had to wait around until 1:30 before I was brought in to the coldest room I have ever been in... The O. R. was not what I expected and when I first got rolled in my surgeon was on the phone talking to one of his patients regarding stomach pain. Once he hung up the phone I was put right out... Then next thing I knew I was done and in the recovery room... I have to say I have been blessed I really don't feel much gas pain... I do feel like I have done 5000 stomach crunches!!!! Getting up and down from a sitting position is not easy and oh laying down... damn!!! I had to stay in the hospital over night and was on a morphine drip... every two hours the nurses would wake me and take me for a walk around the unit at least 3 times... Then as long as I was up I attempted to pee... at first that did not happen... nurse said that is normal because of the morphine. The second time they woke me I was able to finally pee... which actually made me feel better. The next morning on Tuesday I had to have a X-ray done with a nasty tasting drink. They took pictures to make sure the band was in the right place and then with the drink the watched it go down to make sure the band did not move. By the time I was all done it was almost lunch time. I got my first mushy tray of food... pureed tuna fish and apple sauce. Wow was that strange eating mushy stuff... I could only eat about 3 spoon fulls and then I was done... could feel the full feeling...Had to wait 30 minutes before I started to take liquids... My doctor does not let you leave the hospital until you eat your 2nd mushy meal... which came at 5pm so I was released at 6:30... So happy it is over and happy to be home... eating no fat cottage cheese now... again only ate about 3 spoon fulls and I am done... I am also very itchy... but was told that was part of the healing process... Just so happy to say it is done... Good luck to everyone!!!! Jo Ann

    Finally Banded :)

Hi JDsGirl... I got banded on the 18th of August and also had my haital hernia repaired... I stayed in the hospital over night and was released after eating two mushy meals.... Coughing is difficult but it does get easier... Put a pillow on your belly when you need to cough and press it into you... it does help... I also was having problems with the water... Oh god the damn liquid... I started to feel like I was drowning... Well I find it is much easier if I get at least 24oz of Fluid in me before my first meal... and then of course wait the proper amount of time before eating and then just repeat for each meal.... and then if I need a few extra oz... by the end of the day I have sf ices as a treat... yummy flavors and they count for about 1.75 oz each so I have at least 2... Jo Ann

Yeah I am home and banded!

Think I spoke to soon when I said I did not have gas pain... YUCK... my shoulders are starting to hurt... I took a gasX strip... hopefully that will help... I am having a hard time gettng all the fluids in... I have to have 64 oz and at least 40-60 grams of Protein... so far had 15 oz of liquid and 21 grams of that was protein... Had apple sauce for lunch ... ate about 2 heaping teaspoons full and I had enough... ugh!! Will take my second pain pill once I can have more liquid.. which is about 15 minutes from now...

Yeah I am home and banded!

Very sore today... feel like I did 5000 cruches... Just took a pain pill... had to break it in to 4 small pieces and try to swallow it with small sips of Water... not the easiest thing to do... but I did it. Holding a pillow agaist the port area does help when moving around... worst part so far was sitting on the toilet and then getting up... OUCH!!!!

    Today's My Day at 10am

To all the August All Stars... I will officially be joining all the banders today... I am sitting here just waiting until it is time to head to the hospital. Surprisingly I am not as nervous as I have been for the last few days. My DH is freaking out and my sister in law is as well... she called me at 4:45am:scared2:. Woke me from the last good sleep I will have in a while.. (at least I hope not)... She was going to come to the hospital too but she has a stomach virus. I was on the phone with her until 8am trying to calm her down.. lol Well wish me luck... Jo Ann:thumbup:

Hi Everbody, I survived surgery on the 12th!

Hi Judie, I will be banded on the 18th and was told that I could have Viactive which is a chocolate flavored chewy Calcium Vitamin (2 a day). My dr said that I will really enjoy it since I wont be allowed to really chew anything for a while. I tried one already and they really do taste great... Oh and I was also told to have Flinstone Vitamins one in the am and one in the pm until I am able to take regular vitamin pills. I am sure I will savor every bite after the surgery. Also want to thank all of you for all the great information. Jo Ann

    Anyone Afraid?

Hi, I also have been feeling very nervous about the surgery as well but try to keep reminding myself that in the end I will be healthier. My surgery is 6 days a way ... I am trying to get everything in order in the house for my DH. I wrote out all the checks to pay all the bills for then rest of the month and put them in the order they need to be paid. I have cooked him meals and froze them so that he can just pop whatever he wants in the microwave. I have thought about writing letters to him and my parents but have changed my mind. I am a strong believer of positive thinking and look at what I have prepared as just a way to make my return home easier. I am actually more nervous about all the changes that are going to take place then something going wrong during the surgery. Part of what has kept me focused is all the shopping for Protein drinks, and soft food and a new blender... All best to all the August All Stars... Please keep me informed of how your are all doing.. P.S. I am looking forward to the shopping for new clothes..

    Tell Us About You!

Hi to all the August All Stars My name is Jo Ann, I am 40. I have been married for 14 years to a really sweet guy named Joe. I have known him since I was 12 and first dated him when I was 17... then went off to college in Arizona but came back to him at 21 and have been with him ever since. I'm a social worker in Manhattan working with the elderly helping them with entitlements and benefits. I have been over weight since I was a teenager but in the last few years have gained the most weight. I have tried everything from going to a nutritionist to atkins to weight watcher... not that that they were not successful but I always seem to gain all the weight back and of course a few extra for good measure. October of 2007 was my wake up call.. I was at a client's and he began to fall so me being the caring social worker got up and I caught him... I ended up herinating 3 disks in my back and have been out on Workman's Comp since. Since the back has not gotten any better of course doctors are contributing the long lack of recovery to my weight. I have thought about WLS for a long time but this really pushed me in to getting more information. I had my initial consult with Dr. Holover for the lapband on June 18th which was my 14 year anniversary with my husband... (which I took as a good omen)... and I now have a date for my surgery on the 18th of August. Of course I am exited but also very nervous. I know I will be out here over and over for support and information... I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone out here for all the information over the last few months and I look forward to chatting more and hearing all the success stories.... Wishing all the best...

Anyone having surgery on August 18?!

I got my date and I am so happy and looking forward to doing something so positive. My pre-op testing is the 7th. Good Luck to all the August All Stars
  25. Went to the surgeon yesterday for my second consult and I have been scheduled for the 18th of August..... I am nervous and excited all at the same time. My pre-op testing is scheduled for the 7th. I am still in shock on how fast everything seemed to go. I first saw the surgeon on the 18th of June and now my surgery is only 17 days away. Was wondering if anyone has a list of what foods I should have in the house when I return from the hospital??? Good luck to all of us future banders!!
