TravelLady48 replied to TravelLady48's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Ladies: Thanks for your responses, it is a new year and I am just going to make a new start. I will also look for that 30min excercise thread, that's something that may really help me. Anne -
Happy new year and hope 2009 will be a great year
TravelLady48 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Happy New years to everyone. I haven't been on here for a while, because I haven't been doing that great with my program. :cursing::thumbup: I did get my first fill 12/10 and I feel restriction and can only eat a little at any one time. But because the food has been more readily available I tend to pick. Therefore, I haven't lost any more weight since my fill. I also still need to start my excercise program. I feel very distracted and can't keep my mind on a good eating program. I have decided that I should write down everything I eat, so I can be more focused. Has that helped anyone else? I hate to go back to the doctor and not have lost any weight in a month. I'm planning to go on mushies again to see if that helps. I don't want to fail. My diabetes is under better control, which is a positive. I just hope that the weight will continue to drop off and I will have a leaner, healthier and sexier 2009.:tt2: One thing I must say is that if Ms Oprah can't keep her weight under control with all her money, power and access to everything, then I won't beat myself up about my preceived failure.:tongue2: -
Lottacash: I had been doing Water excercises. Unfortunately the best facility in my area is an outside pool and just my luck we have been very cold rainy weather this year and I am a whimp. The pool itself is a therapy pool and well heated,so I will just have to bite bullet and go for it. It is for my own good and I know it. :tt2: Anne

There has been great comments on this blog on Oprah. So many people had made Oprah "godlike" but in reality she is human like the rest of us. She has been very lucky in her adult life but she just can't seem to conquer her weight problem, especially with another diet. Anne

What problems or issues contributed to you being overweight?
TravelLady48 replied to ItalianSoul's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is a great post. As for me, I had a great life when I was young and great parents. Food was just always a big part of all celebrations and holidays. I was a little heavy in High school but was a dancer so it was easier to keep it under control, but in college first time eating all the wrong things(fast food had just became a big deal) and too little excercise caused my weight to go out of control. I always had so many friends with an active social life, I also had a longtime marriage and my health was still good,so my extra weight was not a problem. I worked in the airline business and they paid for me to go to a 6week program in the 80's, I call it a food rehab, we had psych appointments, did excercise and learned to eat better. I lost weight but at the end even the psychologist said my weight issues didn't seem to be psychological related. Of course I tried to tell them that in the beginning and through out my stay. In my 50's I was laid off from my job and I found it very hard to get another one (I feel it was due to my age and weight), I also started taking care of my Mom and my health has gone down hill. This has caused me to start feeling really depressed and my weight ballooned to over 300 and I just couldn't get it off. It's so great to be below 300 again. :tongue2::cursing: -
There's a leak in this old building!!!!
TravelLady48 replied to liteweighttrina's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Trina: So happy to know that this doctor figured out that you had a leak and fixed it. Goodluck as you move forward and loss more weight. -
Everyone in this forum seems to be doing so well. I have almost 200lbs to lose, and so far I'm not doing so well. I was banded on Oct 29, and had loss about 30 lbs before surgery. I am happy that I am below 300lbs for the first time in a long time, but the holidays have been very hard. I can't eat much at one sitting, but I will go and pick, if the food is there. My other problem is that I have a very bad knee and can't excercise, the weight loss doesn't help if it bone on bone pain. But no more excuses, I'm just going to have to figure something out, because I have to get moving. One positive, my diabetes is under much better control. My medication has been greatly reduced and I know if I start moving my glucose would be even better. I think I will start writing down everything I eat. Hopefully 2009 will be a better year for me.

TravelLady48 replied to NEWME2008's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded 10/29 and I too felt and looked bloated for the first week or so. It takes a little while and now people are really beginning to see my weight loss and my clothes are really getting lose. Be patient. I decided to take my measurements so I can also keep track of my changing dimensions that way. -
Sleep apnea!! Diabetic!!Any advice!?!?
TravelLady48 replied to pincham2brn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Since my surgery I have noticed that I can sleep much better even without my CPAP. I have not been tested but before I get totally rid of the machine, would get retested. As for my diabetes, the doctor has reduced my medication and insulin and we are watching my glucose very closely. Good luck with your surgery. Anne -
Couchto 5k Hip Hop Podcast-LOVIN' IT!
TravelLady48 replied to aprilapple's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm so happy to see that you all are so ambitious. Couch to 5k sounds climbing Mt Everst to me. I have such a bad knee that even walking is too much pounding . At this time I will have to continue with water excercise. Maybe late after I get my knee replaced I can join you all. -
Oh no! Thanksgiving is coming!!!!!
TravelLady48 replied to theninside's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I see we all are struggling with the aproaching Thanksgiving dinner (festivities). At that time I will have no restriction and since I'm only 10 days out from surgery I have no idea how I will react around all that food. I will be on pureed foods, so I will really have to watch myself, because Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday for cooking and eating. My 1st fill is not until 12/11. -
I was just banded on Oct 29, I was on liquids for about 10days and now I am on mushies and still drinking my protein. It's interesting to know that the weight loss will slow down even after your first fill. My 1st fill is scheduled on 12/11 so I will see how I'm doing after the healing is complete.

Welcome to the forum, there are a great group of ladies here who can give you so much first hand information. I was banded on Oct 29 and so far so good. I can tell you I made my final decision after joining this group, plus I was equipped with all kinds of questions for my surgeon after being on LBT. Goodluck in the up coming months as you prepare for your surgery.

2nd Chance You really hae been on a long journey, I wish you luck with the sleeve, I hope it is a better choice for you. I 'm at the beginning of my journey, since being banded Oct 29. At this point I am not feeling hungry or even thristy, so it is hard for me to get the recommended fluids down each day, but I am working on that. One positive, my diabetes seems to be under better cntrol and my doctor has reduced my medication. Hopefully, I can maintain this level of control once I start eating again, I do know that excercise will also help. I will keep you in my prayers. Anne

Hi Dianne I was banded on Oct 29, and am on Clear liquids. I am finding it very hard to get the amount of fluids And Protein needed. I know I need to try harder, but since I am not feeling hungry or real thristy I forget. How do you you do it? Anne

Lea: congratulations on your weight loss. Keep up the good work. As for me they had to postpone my surgery date because of bronchitis. My blood sugar has been very good while I have been on the pre-op diet and hope it will continue.

As my knees started going bad and my bp went out of control I was steered toward RNY and I really did not know anything about Lap Band surgery. This was about 4 years ago and the other options such as the sleeve and other surgeries were never discussed. I just couldn't bring myself to have such drastic surgery. My doctors kept trying to convince me that the band was not suitable for me because of my diabetes and my high BMI. I continued doing research on the internet and found evidence from Europe, Australia and the Philipines that showed that the Lap Band can be just as effictive as GBP in aleviating the co-morbities of HBP, diabetes and sleep apenea. The lapBand is just much less invasive and you don't have the problem of malabsorption. The weight loss is much slower which should help with the elasticity of the skin. I don't know anyone else who has had the band, so that's why this site has helped me so much on my journey toward the band.

Mzreeda: You are definetly in my prayers. Just take it one day at a time and don't push yourself. Yesterday, my surgery was cancelled because I have bronchitis, I was very depressed so today I ate like before. I had done so well on my 2 week pre-op diet and I don't want slip back into old habits. Tommorrow, I will continue on the prescribed pre-op diet so I don't regain my weight. It sure is easier to gain weight than it is to maintain, but I'm want to keep a positive attitude for the future as I make the long term changes I need to continue losing.

What Else Can Go WRONG !!!!!
TravelLady48 replied to sxevan9's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Stephanie: I understand how you feel. I cancelled my original date in June because I was not given complete information from my surgeons office.:cool2: I was then rescheduled for 10/10/08 after completing all the test including chest xray, EKG, pysch, sleep test, nutritional counseling etc. I had endured the pre-op diet showing my commitment, but I had what I thought were just allergies. Unfortunately, after checking in the hospital, my surgery had to be cancelled because I have bronchitis. Hang in there and goodluck with all those required test. :thumbup:I just don't understand why they didn't let you know about those requirement while you were waiting for your approval. Someone dropped the ball. -
Patty: I agreed with April, lets keep it civil here and avoid this site if it doesn't suit you. We are all reaching for the same goal of getting support from others who understand us. I'm happy to have this site to read and post my thoughts, and most of us also post on other threads that interest us.

first, I just returned from a 4Day cruise to the Bahamas and I did great with my eating. I did gain any weight. I eat mostly from the Spa menu. I started started my pre-op diet and I have found it very difficult. 2 shakes and a light meal. The problem is that being a diebetic I forgot to have my doctor adjust my medication and I am having low glucose issues (hunger, shakes, etc.) I will contact him asap on Monday so I can make the best of this diet.

Hello My Sisters..........I lost my band yesterday!!
TravelLady48 replied to poohprecious's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Kia: I so sorry to hear about the problems you had with the lapband. Think posiive, you have lost 40lbs and once you have healed form the revision surgery you can continue on the weight lost journey until you decide what procedure you can get. Just stay positive. You are definitely in my prayers. -
Hi Ladies: I can hardly believe it, but I finally have a surgery date. OCT 13TH.:cool2: I had gotten so depressed because I really thought the surgeon had just abandoned me, because of my untimely cancellation of my original surgery date. He had just told me to lose 20 lbs and had given me no direction. Yesterday his nurse called to find out about my blood pressure and to check on my weight loss.:cursing: Well, to date I have lost only 10 lbs but the doctor said he sees my committment and he has gone ahead and scheduled the surgery. :w00t::biggrin: My nutritional counseling is Sep 16, then it clear sailing ahead for me. She offered me an earlier date but OCT will work out just fine for me. There is truly light at the end of the tunnel.

Finally have a surgery date
TravelLady48 replied to TravelLady48's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Bimbabe: Goodluck on your surgery. I can hardly wait. It's has been a long time getting to this point for me, I really need the help the band an give me. Eventhough, I'm from Cali, I worked 5 years at Hartfield Airport and really enjoyed ATL. I had actually considered coming back to Atl for my banding, but eveything worked out here in Pasadena. Once my husband retires, we are considering moving to ATL. I wish you all the luck. -
Shhh...Keep it in the Closet!?
TravelLady48 replied to aprilapple's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
April: With my sister the silence and raised eyebrow is definitely a sign of non-support. At least I did not have to justify it to her. I told my girlfriends in ATL (by email) and they were all very supportive of me and they know how much better I will. I'll be happy to get back together with them next year. Anne
