Shhh...Keep it in the Closet!?
TravelLady48 replied to aprilapple's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I do have to learn to keep my mouth closed about the band, because I have a friend who I told when I first started on this journey. She knows about all my medical problems and knows I have gone up and down for years, so I let her in on my plans for the band. Well, she saw me today and she noticed that I am losing weight on my own (pre-op) so she started saying that I should try to do it on my own and just stick to a diet.:eek:Well she is my elder so I kept quiet, anyway she should know diets just don't work (she is about 75 lbs overweight also). She still thinks I am having GB surgery. She is one of my travel buddies and she doesn't like to see me sit and eat sensible. My sister just went silent when I told her. So no one else will have to know. My son and his fiance (size 1) plus her family are very supportive, so they will be my support system.:tt2: -
Finally have a surgery date

October issue of Essence
TravelLady48 replied to NEWME2008's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Haven't seem that issue and I wish Mo'Nique all the luck. All I can say is been there and done that (at one time lost 80 lbs and gained 100 Lbs) and I'm tried of the up and down. I ready for a new start with the band being the tool I need. Good luck on getting your band date.:tt2: -
CM: Thanks for the tip on the filter bottle.

I finally have my band date, Oct 13 and I can hardly wait. I have also been a diabetic for 10 yrs, while I was working I was in more control of my weight and my diabetes. When I stopped working in 2004, I was so depressed I was eating all wrong and my weight and diabetes went out of control. This has led me to banding. Good luck with your lap band.
-
Pam and Kareyn: It's so good to hear that you both were off your diabetic meds so soon after banding. This gives me hope, because I am taking so much medication and the expense is getting worse as the years go on.
-
Nancy: I glad hear that your healing process went so well. My doctor also requires an overnight stay, which is no problem for me. I have a BMI of 50, with HBP and very painful arthritis in my knees, so I'm happy to see proof that the band will help with those problems.

Tell us about yourself
TravelLady48 replied to skinnyoneday's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome D: Good luck in your quest for the band, it's great that you are taking control of yourself at a young age. Maybe this will spare you from all the weight related problems that comes with age. -
MSV529 and Curseincali: Congratulations on your banding. Keep us up to date on your progress.
-
NewMe2008: You will have your date before you know it. Hope you will join me in Oct. I have my nutrition counseling Sep. 16, then I know I'm on count down. I've also starting getting things together for after surgery. Best of luck. Anne

Hurricane Gustav, that Mutha Fugga
TravelLady48 replied to yettia1031's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yettia: So happy Gustav missed NOLA and you are doing fine. Anne -
I have been prequalified for the lap band surgery and was originally set for 6/12/08 but I cancelled because I felt I was not informed enough. I even considered going to another surgeon, who has told me that he will not do the band on anyone with a BMI over 45. This rejection led me to LBT and I have so happy with the information that I have gotten from all the various post and forums. I am very anxious and want to schedule the surgery asap. I was never put on a pre-op diet and that has been my basic concern. Wish me luck. :Angel_anim:

Hi from Pasadena, CA
TravelLady48 replied to TravelLady48's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Boopie: Good to hear from you, yes I really like the Pasadena/Altadena area. In fact, I have lived in Asia, Africa and traveled all over the world, came back to sleepy Pasadena. My kind of place. Have you been banded yet? My band date is Oct 13 at Huntington Hosp. Anne -
Hi from Pasadena, CA

Plain: Thanks for the well wishes. I now have my band dateOct 13 and I can hardly wait. I going to make major changes and in fact I actually went into a gym today, to check it out. -
Doddie63: I like your idea of a slow steady weight loss. You must have lost more weight in the beginning, because what you have lost indicates about 4lbs a month. You mentioned having a loose fill, is that something I can request from my doctor? This is news to me. Are you excercising and what are you doing? I'm always open to ideas.
-
Karen and docsly: Congratulation on your banding, and I'm keeping an eye out to see how you are progressing. I can hardly wait for my band date Oct 13, so hard I not nervous and since I have cancelled once already it's full speed ahead for me. I am really happy to have this forum available with ladies in my same age group. We do have different challenges than when we were younger.

Okay Ladies: I'm looking for a new Lap Band surgeon, here in California. My PCP does not have any recommendations for me, because she does not believe in WLS. I also might consider going to Atlanta, because I have lived there and I have a brother I can stay with. That would not be too much out of my comfort zone. I would love to get as much information about other doctors as possible, because I really want to get the Band sooner than later. I want to stay focused.:cool2:

Looking for a new band surgeon
TravelLady48 replied to TravelLady48's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everybody: I decided to use my original surgeon. I was really depressed to think about starting over, so I was really pleased when my surgeon contacted me, to see how I am doing. I have only lost a total of 12 lbs and my BP is under control, so he went ahead and set my surgery date OCT. 13. I can hardly wait. :cursing: He decided that I am totally committed and I can continue losing up until the surgery date. It was just too much trouble trying to research and find a new surgeon. I really wanted a surgeon in my own area, and I really figured it will be up to me to make the best of what ever surgeon I have. Thanks for all the suggestions. -
Sleep apnea!! Diabetic!!Any advice!?!?
TravelLady48 replied to pincham2brn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Elayne: I too have those comorbities, and am looking forward to being off the CPAP machine. I do sleep much better with it since I changed to the nasal pillows. My surgery date is Oct. 13 and I can hardly wait. -
Hi Georgia Peachy: I was very upset with my surgeon, because he had turned me out on my own with no advise, so I started looking for another surgeon. I did find another dr in he next town, but he refused give me the band because my BMI is over 50. I even considered going to Atlanta, Ga to Emory. I worked there for 3 years and I know that facility. I could stay with my brother for a while. Finally yesterday my original doctor contacted to see how I was doing with my weight loss and stabilizing my BP. Eventhough, I have only lost 10 lbs (he wanted me to lose 25) he gave me a surgery date of Oct 13. I am jumping for joy. He has decided that I am committed.:cursing: I will continue trying to lose more weight so I won't have any problems. It truly is easier to stick with the original surgeon, because I didn't want to have to go through any additional test.

Huntington Hospital, Pasadena, CA
TravelLady48 replied to Kellster's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi Kellster: I'm having my surgery at Huntington Hospital, with Pasadena Laparoscopic Surgeons. Dr David Martin, is a very skilled surgeon and his staff is great. Huntington Hosp is a state of the art facility. Good luck on your search. -
My surgeon is David Martin at Huntington Hospital Pasadena. There is also California Bariatric Associates at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, Dr Troy LaMar. I like him and his staff but he will not do a LapBand on anyone with BMI over 45.
