I am having my lap-band removed and laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery on 8 December. I started my presurgery diet this past Sunday. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I will be in the hospital for 4 days. I have to report to the hospital the night before.

We don’t do liquid or-surgery diets in Israel. We told to do a low carb diet of 5 small meals three weeks prior to surgery, but I am starting now.

I am having my lapband removed and laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery on 24 November. I am excited, but also nervous about the removal part of the surgery. I really hope it is a smooth operation. I feel much better prepared this time around because I have been working with a therapist since February who specialises in emotional eating and uses a mindfulness approach. She has helped me unlock the why and I have had several Aha moments in discovering why I have been an emotional eater since I was a child.

I am having my first fill on Monday via a fluoroscope. I hope it doesn't hurt too much. I am looking forward to the fill because I have been a slow loser, but I am still trying to stay positive. I think I have lost inches more than weight because my clothes are loose and people are noticing my weight loss. -
Three (3) Months Out: No Weight Loss !
Swisskaese replied to Sven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 3 months out and am only having my first fill on Monday. I have lost 5kg so far. I too am a bit frustrated, but I hope I will lose more weight once I have my first fill. -

I think I am one of the slow losers. I went for my first post-op exam and I have lost 2kg. Okay, that is almost 4-1/2 lbs in two weeks, I shouldn't complain. I do feel like I have lost inches and my clothes are a little looser on me. I had dissolving stitches and the incisions are almost non-existent. I am very happy about that. They told me I could start walking around my village, but I shouldn't start going to the gym for another two to three weeks. I found out I have 13cc band and the doctor will decide next month if I need a fill yet. So far, I do not feel hungry. -

I am quite depressed because I don't think I have lost any weight. I feel quite bloated and my clothes still feel the same. I am eating according to the nutritionists instructions. I guess I will have to wait until my first post-op exam on 20 April. Is there anyone else who doesn't feel like they have lost anything yet? My stomach is still swollen. -

I am going back to work tomorrow for part of the day and then I am off the rest of the week in observance of the holiday of Passover. I will start my "real" week of work next Sunday. I will have to bring my food to work for the first time ever until I go on regular food. This week and next is mushy food. It is going well so far. My husband prepared pureed brussels sprouts with pureed chicken and mash potatoes. It was delicious. Tomorrow I am going to have fillet of sole and some other vegetable. -

I feel better today, but there is some yellow bruising on either side of the port incision. I hope this is normal. Everyone should rest at least 5 days after surgery. It takes that much time to feel somewhat normal again. -

Post OP Day 3 - Felt good this morning, but about 30 minutes after I had my lunch of chicken broth, I had a massive gas attack. I felt as if I was going to throw up. I had about a cup of soup, maybe it was too much. I walked around the house to prevent me from throwing up and I did avoid it, but the noise coming out of my throat sounded as if I was in some horror film. I took a 2 hour nap after my stomach settled down and I feel better. I don't want that to happen again. -

Day 2 post op and this morning I felt like a truck ran over me. Right before I went to bed last night I started feeling pain in my left shoulder and my neck, but it seems to have gone away overnight. They don't send you home with strong pain medicine here, which is ok with me. But, they told me to buy some over the counter "tylenol-like" drops for the pain. I took some last night and this morning, and the drops seem to help. I don't feel very hungry, but I am making sure that I get liquids in me all day so I don't feel weak an get dehydrated. Make sure you keep yourself hydrated all day. And, also try to cough every two hours and take some deep breaths from your diaphragm so you won't develop pneumonia. This is what the physiotherapist told me in the hospital. -

It is 913pm here in Israel and I just got home from the hospital. The surgery went off without a hitch and I was sitting up in a kind of reclining chair all night. They didn't let me lay down, but this was a good thing because I don't have any gas pain in my shoulder or anywhere else. I am only sore around the port area. I will have three days of clear liquids and then I can start eating mushy food. Hope all the April 1sters are doing well and good luck to the rest of the Bunny Bandsters. I am really looking forward to my new life. -

April Bandsters?
Swisskaese replied to hopeful41411's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was supposed to have been banded this Sunday morning, March 29th, and by 2pm they came and told me that they could not perform the surgery. Apparently there was an 8hr emergency surgery that took up the OR I was suppose to have my surgery in. They asked me stay overnight to try and fit me in today, but at 12pm, they said it was a no go. So, they discharged me and are rescheduling either this Wed, Thurs or next week. I won't know until tomorrow. So, now I am April bandster. Good luck everyone. -

I am getting nervous and excited - 2 days to go. My lap band was delivered to my house yesterday and is in a box in my living room. I am curious to see what it looks like up close and in person, but I don't want to contaminate it, so I won't. I know you are all reading this in horror, but this is perfectly normal in Israel. I am suppose to bring the lap band with me to the hospital on Sunday. -
