    3 days post op, update

I had surgery on Wednesday also Tina. I have been extra sore today too, but otherwise ok. I, like you, have wondered what in the world have I done! It has almost been like I am mourning something that has been lost. I am sure I will be much better when I can get back to my everyday life. I haven't had a problem with the diet either, I just wish there was a little more variety to the liquids. Good luck to everyone.

    It's been one week..

I guess we are pretty much feeling the same way. I wish I could get rid of some of this trapped gas. I go from feeling fine to feeling like an elephant is sitting on me. I haven't had a desire for food either;you're right, that will come soon enough!

I guess I will wait a little longer. I may do as you are saying and just walk the track. Thank you.....

    It's been one week..

I was wondering if anyone who has been banded this month could answer this. I was banded on the 14th and feel pretty good overall. I do feel a little tight when I drink, as if I have some restriction, but I am sure it is because of swelling. Anyway, I have read where some people resume their exercise regimen immediately following the band. I have paperwork that states just that, but also some that states no exercise until a week post-op! Before being banded, I was doing light running on the treadmill 4 times per week for 30 minutes ans some circuit training.....probable a 45 minute workout total. I really had the urge to go to the gym this morning, but didn't because I don't want to injury anything. So in a nutshell, have you guys been doing any exercising yet? Thank you and good luck to you all!

    Jan 27th Banding

I was banded yesterday and I am trying to get used to the new and improved me that is about come. I, like you, could have probably eaten at a fast food restaurant everyday of the week. I have come to realize that I would rather be healthy and weigh a bit less, than have some of those foods I once enjoyed so much. I am sure I am swollen some so food is the last thing on my mind right now. I just know that once I am able to eat again, I have to make better food selections and control my portion sizes. Best of luck to you.

    Aetna "weight history" question

Sorry to hear about your shoulder pain, Ronda. I am experiencing some swelling in my belly and difficulty coughing, but other than that, I am doing ok. Keep me posted on your progress, as I am sure you will do fine.

    Aetna "weight history" question

Ronda, I was also banded today! I hope everything went well for you. God bless.....

    Aetna

I have Aetna too and I was very impressed with how quickly I was approved after submitting everything that was required. I was a bit sceptical reading some of the posts and what some had to say about Aetna, but I went for it anyway. I was banded today and I look forward to this journey.

    Banded 1/09/09

Hello, I was banded today in Memphis, TN by Dr. George Woodman. I am excited about beginning this journey!

will i have to lose weight?

I forgot, the heart palpitations and high BP may help you get approved. These are cormobidities that you may have due to weight.

will i have to lose weight?

Depending on your insurance, you will have to do a 3 or 6 months supervised diet. My PCP followed me during mine. She said the diet wasn't so much for weight loss, but the insurance company is seeing whether you make the effort and keep your monthly appointments. The doctor who is doing my surgery (tomorrow!) did require that I lose any weight gained from my initial appointment with him. Meaning, when I had my first office visit on May 16th of last year, I weighed 242. I had my appointment to schedule surgery about 3 weeks ago and I weighed 248. I had to lose 6 pounds by today. I went to the office to weigh in today and weigh 240, so I am good to go! Good luck on your journey.....

Question about 3 & 6 month diet on Aetna...

I have Aetna also and I went to my PCP for the supervised diet. It was for 6 months. My doctor made a weight loss template that she wrote her recommendations for me on every month. When my 6 months were up, I submitted those sheets along with all of the other paperwork and documentation that Aetna required. I am scheduled for surgery on the 14th. The time passes rather quickly. I would suggest that you do it for 6 months as opposed to the 3, just to make sure you have all the bases covered. Good luck to you!

What I think of Oprah's show today!

I hope I don't offend anyone, but I must agree with you. It is hard for me to feel any sympathy for someone with a weight issue who has the best of EVERYTHING money could buy at their disposal! I realize that there are underlying issues as to why any of us overeat, but do you think I would be fat if I were as rich as she is? She doesn't believe in things like WLS, but I think that is precisely what she needs. Now, let me get off of the soapbox.....lol!

January bandsters our time is coming!!!

I am to be banded on the 14th also! While my doc doesn't require the liver-shrinking diet, he does require you to lose any weight gained from your first appt. with him to your appointment to schedule surgery. In a nutshell, I gained 6 pounded since May! I have to go to the doc's office to weight the day before surgery and I have to be 6 pounds down. I cut back tremendously this past week, but I think I will put myself on a self-imposed liquid diet next week! Good luck to you all!

New Year Hotties sounds like a plan! I am getting banded on the 14th. Good luck to you all.
  19. Ok, I have Aetna also and I was approved a week after sending in all my information. From what you are saying, Aetna will probably deny you because of your BMI not being high enough. Having said that, I would go to my PCP and see if you have any more comorbidities besides the elavated BP. If your BMI is not 40, the more comorbities you have the better. Have you gone to a seminar with a surgeon yet? I would do that to see all the things that are required to be submitted for approval, then get started. I didn't have a precertification. I went to the seminar and started marking off all the things that were required. It took about 6 months to get everything done, but I was approved with no problem and my surgery is 1/14! Good luck to you!

January 8 surgery .... anyone else??

Well, from start to finish to do everything that my insurance required took about 6 months. There was the 6 month supervised diet, the nutritionist, the pschologist, etc. It is a process, but it is worth it!

January 8 surgery .... anyone else??

Thanks Cate! You know I really haven't gotten that hungry this week and I have lost 3 pounds, but today is my birthday and I really would like to go out and have a nice dinner tonight! Pray for me.....

January 8 surgery .... anyone else??

Congratulations! I am not an "8er," but my surgery is the 14th. My doctor does not require a liquid pre-op diet, but I have put myself on one because he does require that you lose any weight you gained from your first office visit. I started the process in May of last year and when I went in in the middle of December to get my surgery date, I had gained 6 pounds!

    Insurance (Aetna)

Doublewall, Call Aetna and ask for the link to download their practice on WLS. It was pretty lengthy and I don't remember how to get there. I could almost gaurantee that they denied you because of your BMI. They probably don't consider your psuto tumor a comorbidity. I had to have a 6 month diet and my PCP did it so I didn't have to spend extra for that. I was out of the copay ($20) every month, but that was it for the diet. I did pay to go to the nutritionist and the psychologist, but I only had to see each of them one time. I think your doc could be a little more compassionate in your desire to appeal this. I am very passionate about this and I get upset everytime someone says they were denied! Keep fighting and don't give up! God bless.....
  24. I have a 10 year old and a college student who comes today for a month! I suppose I will lock myself in my room when he gets home and let them fight until my husband gets in from work!
  25. I don't know about that, but I gad my EGD this past Wednesday and had a cold. I did my best to mask it because that was the last step before neeting with the surgeon for a surgery date. In hindsight, I probably should have waited until will cold had run its course; something about being put to sleep and I already can't breath because of congestion is a bit scary. I meet with thw surgeon Tuesday and I am staying in the house until then!
