Thanks so much! I love Vega Vanilla and chocolate protein powder as well as PB protein powder each mixed with almond milk. I also just discovered Ghost protein powder which is amazing! Literally tastes like cereal milk, chips ahoy etc.. and you can buy samples! You definitely want broth and sugar free popsicles. Both we’re life savers! In the full liquid stage any cream soup you like will be your go to… get a strainer bc you will use that a lot! Also get a few protein shaker bottles! A scale is a must have! Order your vitamins and protein ahead of time for sure! I bought but don’t use baby spoons or anything like that bc you can judge how much a tiny bite is. Look up lots of full liquid and purée recipes especially the ricotta bake for purée! I don’t feel like my tastes have changed and I have no cravings! I have gone out for pizza with my family and it did not bother me at all. There are times I literally have to remind myself I need to eat! Plan to walk a lot it helps so much and fills the food void. My biggest problem was over preparing and being hard on myself, it helped but I literally thought I had control over this process and I have very little. I just go hour by hour, day by day as far as what I need to be doing. Good luck to you! It’s so worth it! Keep the questions coming!

Metformin - Loss of appetite pre-surgery
Elahnen replied to lizonaplane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took metformin for PCOS and I didn’t have an appetite either! It definitely helped me to lose weight bc if no appetite. -
Good luck! I just had mine June 8 and I already feel great and so will you! Your feelings are completely normal! You got this! It’s better that you save your own life now rather then fight for it later was my motivator!

Good luck to you on your process! I hear buff gen has a good program as well!

Are you by chance going through Trinity Bariatric?
-
I’m about 40mins away from Buffalo. Just had my surgery at sisters hospital out there on Tuesday.
-
@catherinetheok I promise each day gets a little better. I had mine 6/8 and I’m already feeling better. I was told I am allowed to take Tylenol pm crushed up for sleep if needed but not sure if you would be allowed based on your plan. My best advice is to walk a lot and sip water and Gatorade all day. Sugar free popsicles have been a huge life saver! I know things will look up for you soon... just try to stay positive! 💜

@Eli05 Good luck! It’s true each day gets better, but the struggle is real! Ugh it’s torture seeing and smelling the kids food lol! I had my surgery June 8 and glad I stuck to the liquids bc it really made a difference and now I have no interest in food.

I had mine on 6/8 as well and I’m still bloated and have the same bm issues. Sounds like we’re both on the same track!

Hi everyone! Made it to the other side of this interesting journey! Just want to share a couple things for others waiting on surgeries! I have had an easier time so far then most which I am so thankful for. I’m basically pain free other then discomfort internally, but can’t even really call it pain. Walk as soon as you can in the hospital. It really helps. Drink super slow out of little 15ml medicine cups. Listen to your body and what it needs ( liquids, rest, walking etc.) In the hospital I felt bad because I could hear others struggling really bad! I was worried that it was just a matter of time before I had their issues, but luckily I didn’t. I’m still very early post op and I except issues will come up. I keep asking myself “what the heck did I just do” kinda like a shock that I did this, but I always come back to the realization that I just saved my own life! The surgery is well worth it and necessary, but do not underestimate it because the struggle is real! Please reach out if any one has an questions! Good luck to everyone waiting for surgery and those that have already had it!

Congratulations! I had mine done 6/8!

@TwinMom2020 enjoy your lunch!! My best advice is don’t overthink the liquid diet... just do it. Stay super busy and fill up on Gatorade and water. I prepped my meat and veggies for the week which made it even easier. There will be so many temptations, but talk yourself out of it. We are just getting back from a 4 day vacation and I’m not gonna lie it wasn’t easy, but I didn’t cheat. I agree it seems a bit extreme when others don’t even have to do the diet. I have one more week on the liquids pre op so we shall see if I remain on track lol. Good luck and if you need and support, have questions or need to vent I’m your girl... the struggle is real!

Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)
Elahnen replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you fir the updates! I’m sorry your struggling, but I do appreciate you sharing your honest experiences as I approach my surgery June 8. I already feel like I am not alone bc of your posts. The past 4 days were tough bc I am on liquids and we went away which involved friends and daily cook outs. I didn’t struggle with hunger but like you said the feeling of being left out. I still cooked for everyone and sat with them while they ate but felt so sad they I couldn’t participate. My husband was so supportive, but also knew there wasn’t much he could do. I don’t want my family to give up their fun bc of me but to Atleast acknowledge that my struggle is real. I hope things get better by the day for you! -
I use and love Vega Protein powder from GNC.com but you can find it many places. I get the vanilla and chocolate flavors. They taste good with unsweetened almond milk.
-
Congratulations! Mine is June 8. If you can try to cut back on carbs and sugar before surgery! I’m finding that cutting back has helped a lot and will help after! Your sooo lucky not to have this miserable liquid diet lol.
-
Just drink so much water and Gatorade zero that you can’t stand it anymore! That’s what I have been doing for almost a week now. I get soo liquid full that the sight of food makes me nauseated. It’s definitely not easy, but just keep telling your self it temporary!

How long from when you started the process to surgery?
Elahnen replied to BeaUTAHful's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a similar experience. I started the requirements in feb and had them done mid April. The scheduler called late May. Surgery is June 8. So about 4minths. I ended up calling the office manager bc I kept getting the run around and they called me to schedule that afternoon. After you get scheduled there are even more appts that need done! Mine were pre surgical class, pre op testing, surgeon appt, primary care appt and a covid test. I hope they contact you soon! -
Hi everyone, Just sharing my experience so far of my 2 week pre op liver shrink diet. A week before I cut back in carbs and sugar, but still ate as much of anything else I wanted. On Sunday I started my diet (2days early) and I have to say I feel great so far almost 4 days in. I am allowed 600 calories, but can’t seem to get more then 430 calories in. I drink a protein shake in the Am, one for lunch with a sugar free apple sauce, dinner is 2oz of high protein meat and 1 cup of vegetables. I am allowed as much sugar free jello, popsicles and broth that I want, but I can’t seem to fit anymore after the water and Gatorade zero throughout the day. I walk about 4mi a day. I am noticing a slight drop in my energy today, but nothing bad yet. I still cook for my family whatever they want and then eat my food with them. They hide snacks when they eat lol, but seeing the food doesn’t bother me shockingly. This whole process is very unlike me bc I love food and love to eat so I’m so nervous this honeymoon stage is going to end and hell take over! We will be out of town for a few days at a demolition derby this which means lots of grilling food and alcohol! I have my stuff all packed to eat and plan to walk a ton especially as a distraction from the food. If I can make it through this demo derby party I can do anything lol! Just wanted to share for others to have another perspective on the diet and that it MIGHT not be as horrific as it seems. We shall see...... good luck to you all!

Exercise Evaluation
Elahnen replied to ZhivagosGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Lara! I was worried about my exercise eval as well. Basically they ask you a lot of questions about your current activity level and any difficulties you have doing different exercises. They check your heart rate and they had me walk up and down a hallway several times to check my heart rate during exercise. I would wear a good pair of gym shoes fit walking and comfy pants bc they check your range of motion. I was told you can’t fail, but they could recommend that you participate in several exercise classes prior to approval. Think of it as an evaluation rather then a test. They pretty much just recommend exercises for pre op and post op and try to prepare you for what needs done before and what to expect after. Don’t be nervous, just be you and be honest and you will be fine! I hope tomorrow you will post that it wasn’t as bad as you though it might be 😉 Good luck! -
Cleaning up diet Pre Surgery
Elahnen replied to DareMightyThings's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I actually started cleaning up on Monday. I went low carb and avoiding sugar. Drinking lots of water and Powerade zero. I’m technically suppose to start my 2 week pre op diet Tuesday but I’m starting it tomorrow instead. I’m starting early just to get used to it before I head out of town for a few days. Surgery is June 8. Good luck to you! -
@marissaroth90 Yay I’m not alone lol! It’s getting real isn’t it?!

HELP! Were/Are you a foodie pre-surgery (or post)? Husband very worried!
Elahnen replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your definitely not alone! My husband and I find enjoyment in food and social drinking. We had a similar conversation and agreed that we will adjust and find other things to enjoy. We are trying to plan vacations and we have fun drinking by the pool and Moonshine tasting in Tennessee will no long be an option anymore. The changes will be difficult but I hope worth it! Good luck!
