Pamela - You are doing fantastic. I was banded on JUly 8th and have lost 20 pounds. You are well on your way! Do Not get discouraged! Slow and easy is the best way. I too made the best decision ever!! Hang in there!
-
Today is my two weeks - July 8th - also! Instructions were to go on to mushies. I had some thinned down refried beans with a dab of sour cream and sprinkle of cheese. WOW! Soooo good! Even tho we have no big restriction right now I didn't know what to expect. But all went down fine. I guess I ate about 1/4 cup - that was enough!

Tell me I am not a total Wimp for taking pain med every 4 hours
Booklady replied to CapitolChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You cannot rest, your body can't heal if you are in pain. Take the meds - you will find as days go by you will not need them as much. Then maybe only at night to be sure you rest and soon you will able to tough it out with the pinch and pull from the main incision. The rest of you will be fine. Have patience - it will all work out! -
This is day 12 post-op and I feel really great. Large incision still pulls and pinches a bit, but am surprised that every day it gets better. I don't have any little children to tend ( just grandkids that want to know how Grammy's boo boo's are today) or any dogs to walk. So it's just me drinking the liquids and healing. I have to start school on August 7th and I believe I will be ready to go back to work.

You go Girl! A night of dancing sounds like fun and such good exercise. I have thought about taking a line dancing class when I can move around a bit better. (When some of these pounds are gone) Have great time! -

Charlene - Glad you are home and on the way to recovery. This is my 9th day post-op and I can feel myself getting better everyday. Big incision site - like yours is still sore, pinches and pulls, but otherwise I am pleased with me! Liquids are a challenge, but look at the road ahead. These next weeks are all about healing so have patience. -
Glad to find this North LA thread on this great website. I am a new bandster - July 8th - so I am learning sooo much from reading all the replies. Still on liquids another week, then on to the good stuff! I know this time is all about the healing, so I trying to keep my eye on the prize ahead of me! We need to get this thread going with some more bandsters from our area. librarylady1 and heyliberrylady - I wonder if we are all in the same department at the local schoolhouse?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Booklady replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
To pj txlady: Be sure to ask your doctor what meds he still wants you to take. I take two different blood pressure meds, but he wants to hold off on one of them because it is a type of diuretic. New bandsters tend to get dehydrated anyway if not enough liquids are consumed and that pill would only add to the problem. All that was discussed when dismissed from the hospital. -
Banded July 8th. I got lucky too! No gas pain. Main incision still hurts, pulls, and pinches alot, but otherwise feel good. liquids for one more week. Congrats on your great weight loss in only 2 1/2 weeks. That is SUPER! Keep up the good work!

I am a new bandster, but usually when dieting need a kick in the butt. So your words of wisdom to those who needed it were well taken. I am still on liquids, but am doing exactly as doctor ordered so I can heal and be ready for the good stuff the is to come. If I ever need my butt kicked, I will find you Indio! Your the girl to do the job! :huh2:  -
How to lose weight in full liquid stage?
Booklady replied to noahsmomm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have patience!! Like someone said, we didn't get this way overnight! I have only been banded for one week and am still on liquids for one more week. It is challenging, but I look at it like I am laying the foundation for all the good stuff to happen. I want to heal and then worry about eating REAL food. Don't mess up things! You can do it. -
First Fill 7/14 - but need a new scale?
Booklady replied to Christina40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Can't help you on info about a fill. I am a new bandster - only one week down, sooo, But I too would like to purchase a new scale. Any suggestions out there for a good accurate one??? -
What does this mean???
Booklady replied to MiamiChick1532's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are worrying TOO much! Make an appt. with your doctor and they will handle all of that for you. You probably have history with a few doctors that have documented these things - you just can't think of them right now. It might takea month or two for all the materials to be gathered, but it will be worth the time and effort. I am a new bandster! Only one week into it, but I am getting better everyday. -
Hi knd! I had my band on July 8th also. I too am doing good. Still sore, it pulls and pinches, but its not anything I can't stand. The liquid diet is a challenge, ( 2 weeks )but I just keep telling myself you are healing and it will be over soon. On to mushies!!(for weeks 3 & 4) then on to the real stuff!! My family has been so supportive and that means the world! Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

I need some suggestions on "tried and true tasting" protein shakes for my first 2 weeks of liquids after surgery July 8th. Could you give some name brands, where you buy them, how you mix them, and if they really taste good?

Just wanted to say good luck and keep happy thoughts as all of us have our surgery tomorrow on July 8th! I am so thankful for this website - I have made friends already. The support will be so helpful. Stay in touch and post how you are doing in a few days. What a great journey we about to embark on!! -

Booklady replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
IndioGirl - you are an inspiration to all of us. I will be banded on Tuesday, July 8th, and I hope to follow in your foot steps. I know I will probably need some encouragement like you were giving Elaine AND a kick in the butt once in awhile. I am ready to get started on this journey to my new life (nervous and excited) but ready to just do it!! -
Hi Everyone! I too am a July butterfly!! My banding date is Tuesday, July 8th. So as you can imagine I am excited and nervous - all at the same time. Like many of you, I have been overweight most of my life and now other health issues are added to the problem. I have two precious grandkids I want to play with and this "Grammy" is tired of saying "Sorry, I can't do that" or "I can't get down on the floor to play!" I am ready for my journey to begin.
-
Hey Lynda! I feel the same way. July 8th is my banding day also. Just know you are doing the right thing and your whole life is going to change - for the better. This website is great for getting all kinds of information. You are not alone. Just know there are others going through the same thing you will be on Tuesday. Good luck!

Anyone out there have concerns about telling your friends or coworkers you are getting or have had the lap band surgerY? I have told my immediate family who are in total support, but I am hesitant of others being negative towards my decision. They want to tell you horror stories and challenge your decision that you have thought about for months. Its like "why can't she just get on a diet? or quit eating!" They just do not understand.
-
Makes me feel good to know many more of you out there will be going through the same thing with me on July 8th! Excited for the day to come, but nervous too! We all know it will be for the best - the best decision we've ever made!
-
As I read more on this website, I too am nervous "about all that!" I guess it is a matter of experience as you progress along after surgery. I want to hear about the person that doesn't slim or vomit or PB. Is that possible?
-
My concerns about telling people.
Booklady replied to midwestchickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just posted a question about the same thing! I don't have a problem telling my family - its coworkers, church people and others. It's like not a shameful thing having the surgery, but I am afraid of the negative reactions and horror stories they want to share with me. They do not understand about this "overweight" life I lead. It is a drastic decision, but one I have thought about for months. I know it will be a challenge, but I am ready!! -

Thanks ShandN for adding my name to the July 8th list. So when is your surgery? I didn't see your name on the list. I can't seem to get away from the website. Keep reading and learning sooooo much.
