    Hair loss

Our surgery center says there's nothing you can do about it and not to take too much biotin (something that some people do) because not only doesn't it help, but it can also interfere with lab values. It's almost always temporary and not that noticeable. (I haven't had surgery yet, so I can't say if it will be noticeable for me, but I have very short hair, so it might be pretty odd looking!)

    Nutritional facts

You can go to My Fitness Pal if you're a member (it's free) or I think you can just search on calorie king dot com. On my fitness pal you can create a recipe to figure out how many calories, carbs, protein, etc is in home made food.
  3. My mom and I like crazy richard's as well. You only have to stir it the first time you open it, but it does take some effort. I find shaking the jar like crazy (before you open it!) helps it be easier to stir.

    WLS & ADHD meds

If you had bypass, you may need to take a non-extended release version. You would need to take it a few times a day rather than once a day. Talk to the doctor prescribing yet, or have them talk to your surgery team. Good luck!

    Need some statistics

So, where are your friend's statistics??? Does she even state sources???

Food you used to love now u hate

I haven't had surgery yet, but I gave up soda five months ago in preparation. I used to drink five or so cans of diet soda a day. About a month after I gave it up, I was at a friend's house. She was renovating her kitchen so I couldn't get water, but she gave me a coke zero, which I used to love. It really didn't taste good to me anymore! Last month I was out to lunch with a friend and tried his diet coke and I didn't like that either. So glad I have kicked that habit! I still want them when I see them, but I know I won't enjoy it if I taste it.
  7. I would talk to your surgery team and ask them why precisely you were denied and what you can do to get approved in the future. You might have to go to a different surgeon. Different surgeons have different rules. I wish you good luck!

    My surgery was aborted

I hope you are able now to see that the surgeon was trying to protect your safety by aborting the surgery. You need a functioning liver. Hopefully this will motivate you to lose any additional weight required and try again. You wouldn't be able to sue the surgeon as no harm was done and he does not seem to have acted wrongly (I have studied medical law cases and neither of the things required for you to sue are present here). You just had a bad outcome and you are fortunate that there was no injury and you can try again. If the surgeon HAD completed the surgery, you might have ended up in really bad shape requiring a liver transplant. I hope you are feeling less hopeless and have become determined to get back on track. I know it would be very upsetting to me, too, to have my surgery aborted. I am having enough trouble getting it scheduled!

    August surgery date!

Congrats! I'm hoping my date will be in August as well, but I'm still waiting for a call from the surgery team to schedule.

    Exercise

There are tons of exercise videos on youtube that you can do for free, like dance exercise, isometric exercise that you don't need any equipment for, etc. You can also just turn on Pandora or any music service and play peppy music and dance.

    My journey and NSVs

That's amazing! Congrats. You've lost so much and gained even more! It's terrible that insurance wouldn't cover the procedure since now that you're healthier you will cost them less in the long run, but you have made an investment in yourself, so money well spent!

Almost one year - Down 100lbs - recap

Actually no, my insurance hasn't even gotten involved. The surgery center is backed up due to COVID cancellations (all elective surgeries were on hold until April so everyone whose surgery was cancelled has to go first) and also they are short staffed. When they do call me to answer my questions, they're very nice and apologetic, but they often leave my questions unanswered for a few weeks.

Almost one year - Down 100lbs - recap

Thanks. I have lost a bit of weight while I am waiting, but losing weight hasn't ever been the problem, it's keeping it off. I started off really excited and gung ho, but now I just feel deflated and frustrated.

Almost one year - Down 100lbs - recap

Thanks for sharing your surgery. I've been in the process of jumping through hoops and now just waiting for a date and it's great to hear about what the time during and right after surgery is like.
  16. Congrats! It's an exciting journey, but I am finding it going slower than I would like. I met the surgeon in Feb and I don't even have a surgery date. I hope your journey is faster, but if not, just have patience!

    Tracking App

I like my fitness pal. I've used it for about 9 years (I haven't had surgery yet). I don't like all the ads, but it doesn't bother me enough to use the paid version. Some people on here have complained that it says you're not eating enough after bariatric surgery, but all you have to do is not mark your day "complete" and it doesn't care. They have a huge database of foods and the recipe builder is pretty easy to use.

2 week No Loss 8 weeks out of surgery

You're doing great! Just stay the course, stalls are very common.

    Helpp!!

I would try a different brand from your doctor's list. Try to keep taking them (maybe with a bit of food) until the new ones arrive. Maybe try one you only have to take one or two of. That's the ones I bought (but I haven't had surgery yet so I haven't taken them yet). I'm sorry they're not working for you.

    Cough

I would talk to your doc, because it's important to find out what's causing the cough.

    No support

I'm sorry this is happening. Can you discuss what his concerns are? Is he afraid you won't be able to enjoy going out to eat with him anymore? Or that you will leave him once you are thin? Or that you will have a lot of health problems afterwards? Or something else? It might be something to discuss with a therapist who is well-educated about bariatric surgery. If he is unhappy with your weight and unhappy with your efforts to do something about it, it really puts you in a difficult spot.
  22. (I haven't had surgery yet) I have been donating platelets when my hemoglobin levels are high enough, and I'm taking iron supplements to allow me to do this more frequently, like every month or so. Can you donate platelets after surgery? If so, how long do you have to wait and do you have to take extra iron (yes, I know it will make me more constipated). I can reach out to the surgeon too, but it doesn't feel very urgent.

This waiting game is no fun

I can't get on a waiting list because it will take a month for the insurance to approve me. And there's still the two week shrink the liver diet, too. Plus I have to be off birth control for 6 weeks I think.
  24. I donate platelets at the Red Cross donation centers. My surgery isn't scheduled yet but I'm hoping I will have it by the end of August. Maybe I will just not donate again to be safe. Thank you!

Reactive hypoglycemia, anemia, and PS updates

I was thinking about going to HI a few months after I get my sleeve. Is that a reasonable plan? I would be going alone. I would fly first class (I have tons of miles).
