Doc is out of town and I need help.
ShoppGirl replied to LaylaC's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I would go to the ER but while your waiting You may as well call the surgeon office and tell them you are at the ER and ask them if you should ask for a certain specialist or a specific test. Then of course do whatever test the ER recommends as well since they are the ones seeing you. -
I really hate stalls!!!!!
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was the same intervals that I had as well for follow ups. Weird they said you can’t come more often. Maybe they can’t justify it to the insurance or something?? It’s really hard to just trust the process and weigh less often I know. I couldn’t do it. I do think that the people that do are less stressed out though. -
I should have said I didn’t tell many people. My aunt was the one that brought up the idea of surgery and I told my best friend who is also obese and of course my husband. I didn’t tell anyone else until post surgery cause I was afraid of any negativity. I was lower BMI to start so not a lot of people ask about my loss but some people have asked how i did it and I have told them. So far I haven’t had anybody say anything negative.
-
I didn’t tell everyone beforehand but as people ask me now how I lost weight I don’t want to lie and say I did it on my own because I feel like that may make them feel like something is wrong with them when they can’t do it. But that’s just me. It is true that the reason we lose is because of how little and what we eat post op and whatever exercise we do so I guess it’s not really lying to just leave out that we are able to stick to it because of the surgery.

some how you just triggered my memory. Like I said I was in The states but assume this would be the same. The only way they would have given me a catheter is if my bladder wasn’t “waking up” as expected post surgery. I was up and around fine and I was actually peeing but not a lot. They put something in my toilet to measure the output and if it wasn’t enough they would’ve put catheter in to protect my bladder. I was fine thigh. Started to pee more and more almost immediately after I said i wasn’t peeing alot. -

RNY foodies?
ShoppGirl replied to IWant ToDelete MyProfile's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ooh I absolutely have filet mignon with no issues. My hubby makes it on the grill with yummy grilled onions. One of my favorites. I just have to eat it again because he doesn’t really like steak and of course I have leftovers. I usually have it on a salad or make fajitas or quesadillas the next day with low carb wraps. -
Congratulations!! 🎊

I am in the states and can answer from my experience but it may be a bit different. I did not have a catheter. If they put a tube down my throat I was asleep cause I don’t remember it (I just had to breath with a little mask over my mouth a few times and I was out). And I was up walking around with a nurse in recovery. I haven’t noticed any additional gas. I did read about the possibility somewhere with bypass having more foul smelling gas but honestly I haven’t heard much about it even with bypass in my 16 months on here. Now constipation is another story. That’s an issue for almost everyone immediately post op. -
Immediately post surgery my stomach made ALL KINDS of crazy noises. Some of which did sound similar to the stomach is growling you must be hungry sort of noise. Mostly this happened after I ate. I think it’s noisy while it’s digesting. Could it be that??

You made me curious so I tried googling it too. All I found was another absorption issue. I read that physic acid in seeds can affect the absorption of other minerals like calcium and iron. Only for a couple hours though actually it doesn’t specifically mention chia and flax seeds so maybe they don’t contain a lot. I guess some people soak them to reduce the acid. You may want to look a little further into it. Or maybe ask your nutritionist. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/phytic-acid-101

Very few people are hungry post surgery. They cut most of your hunger hormones out with the large portion of stomach they remove. A few are but they are the exception.

Slow weight loss after VSG to RNY Revision - looking for others experiences
ShoppGirl replied to shriner37's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have heard on here that the weight loss is definitely slower after revision than the first time around. And it can sometimes be less than the initial surgery. But everyone experiences super slow loss those last few pounds. -
I believe the insurance company has 30 days to respond. Don’t quote me on it but I heard that somewhere.

Just starting my journey
ShoppGirl replied to neairheart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like your team is just having you get all the hoops taken care of right away. Insurance usually dictates quite a bit about the time line. It’s possible you are one of the lucky ones that will not have to do the Six months of weigh ins that insurance often requires. Fingers crossed for you. -
That’s weird. Does the waist of your pants feel tighter?

Well said lizonaplane.

Yay. Congratulations on reaching maintenance. Just go slow and you will figure out right where you need to be.

I didn’t experience this so I don’t have first hand advice but one thing you can try to rule out that you aren’t chewing enough is to go back to a purée meal and see if it makes you feel the same way. You could also be eating too fast? Are you waiting plenty of time between bites?

Covid and my sleeve
ShoppGirl replied to SleeverSk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband just went through COVID recently and it kicked his butt. He was only actively feeling sick for about four days but he said he felt off for quite some time after. Its a weird little virus in how it hits everyone so different but just give it time. All you really can do. He didn’t really want to eat for a while either. Just said nothing sounded good. He made sure to at least force down a protein shake or two. Maybe warm up a chocolate one and drink it like hot cocoa. I haven’t ever tried that but it doesn’t sound too bad for cold weather. Feel better soon. -
I agree with sleevesk about the therapist. A lot of people swear that they help so much. I wish I could find someone near me who specializes in disordered eating. I am 16 months post op and got down to my easy goal but not my dream goal. I am on medications that can cause some weight gain so they warned me that may happen. I would’ve been happy enough to maintain there but now I am dealing with some life stress and a medication change and my weight is already starting to creep back up. Not trying to scare you but I am an emotional eater and I know that this would’ve been easier if I had the tools that are learned in therapy. I say you have come this far, may as well do whatever you can to set yourself up for long term success.

Ooh that’s awesome news. Congratulations on your new surgery date.
-
I want to say it was every hour that I got up and walked when I was awake and at night I got up to pee a few times. If you are high risk for blood clots they will probably give you injections and compression stockings and you may have to be more strict. I always get up every hour though and walk around a bit while I am awake. My Apple Watch reminds me to get up. I would ask your team how often you must get up because I may have done more than was necessary. Like I said I wasn’t in a lot of pain so it may have been different if I was.
-
Ooh that really sucks. I’m so sorry. Hopefully they can put you on a stricter pre op diet and you will be fine.
